The Unspeakable Text is a horror/suspense comic anthology based in many different time periods and settings. Each story in the series follows an "unspeakable" event that's been intentionally hidden from the world by supernatural forces.
These short tales have twists and turns, legends of old, mythical beasts, and scares beyond your imagination. This is an extremely unique comic book anthology because each story has been written by the same person and drawn by ten unbelievably talented artists from all over the globe.
The goal of this Kickstarter is to fund the printing and shipping of the first volume.
Check out some of the stories on our Instagram.
My name is Ryan Haack and I'm the writer and creator of the Unspeakable Text series. I love comics and it's always been my dream to launch a Kickstarter to print one of my books. This series has given me that opportunity, and I am beyond thrilled.
In January 2019, UT officially launched on Instagram (@unspeakabletext) as what I believe to be the first proper comic implemented on social media. This format has been so fun to experiment with over the past six months and allowed my comics to get more exposure than they ever had before. However, the comics were always meant to be collected in a prestige format anthology like the one I'm Kickstarting with this campaign.
So without further ado, let me tell you about the stories.
The first volume of the Unspeakable Text is full of stories that will allow you to uncover new mysteries and legends. Ancient Mayan monsters, evil mermaids who control ghost ships, and zombies who go to school only scratch the surface of the kinds of creepy characters you'll meet in the collected ten stories.
These stories are drawn by some of the most talented artists I've ever collaborated with. You want proof? Here's a list of the ten collaborators and their Instagram or ArtStation pages:
- Farid Karami (@faridkarami_art)
- Sebastian Komorowski (@seb_komorowski)
- Mark Baranowski (@baranowskimark)
- Edgar Martinez (@elcapitanedgar13)
- Kristina Stroh (https://kaydee.artstation.com/)
- Othell Flowers (@othell1)
- Deniz Gulmez (@deniz.gulmez.art)
- Mark Diokno (@mr.markus007.m.g.d)
- Diego Vidal (@diegoorugavidal)
- Andrew Anthony (@axemanandrew)
That doesn't include the awesome print that Sendra Uebele (@sendra.uebele) has agreed to draw for "The Unspoken" pledgers. Oh, and who could forget the incredible cover and promotional images by Michael Patterson?
Both the cover and the print will be revealed once the campaign reaches 50% funding.
All this sounds great, but how is your money going to be used?
This volume will be 64-pages, black and white with a 6.7"x 10.2" size. Because it will be a prestige format issue, it will have a 0.086" spine with Perfect (PUR) binding. It will also have a 110lbs satin cover and text as well as a matte laminate finishing. I feel that this is the best choice for Unspeakable Text Volume One which is almost triple the size of an average 22-paged issue.
Now how does that break down into dollars and cents?
This pie chart pretty much summarizes why I feel $3,200 is a perfect goal for this project. The extra expenses include Kickstarter Fees, Extras (including prints), and finishing up some lettering of the book. Shipping money will also be used to buy the Gemini Comic Flash Mailers for the comics to securely travel to their destination.
Because some backers have asked more specifically about shipping charges, I wanted to break down how the shipping is working in the two rewards that require it. To put it simply, I do not want to disappoint my backers by not having enough money when shipping time comes. As much as I'd love for shipping to be cheaper, it's just not realistic so please bare with me.
Along with the $20 charge for the book in the "Screw Loose" reward, some extra money has to be tacked on for shipping. If you are in the US, you will only be charged $5 for shipping. In UK or Canada? You will be charged $10 for shipping. Anywhere else will be $15.
If you pledge to "The Unspoken" you will be charged $25 dollars for the rewards you receive, but that excludes the shipping fee of $15 everywhere. A lot of the money in this reward has to go towards the prints and bookmarks and shipping also needs to be factored in, so that's why.
UPDATE COMPLETE! THANKS!
And you're probably wondering: Are all the stories done? What's the catch?
I'm happy to tell you...YES! All the stories are completed! You can read some of them on our Instagram right now! Only two need to be fully lettered and then they are ready for the printing press!
Additional shipping costs: US = $5, UK= $10, CAN = $10, EVERYWHERE ELSE = $15

Risks and challenges
There are close to zero risks with this project because the comic is already done. I feel I asked the appropriate amount to deliver the best product possible.
If there are any issues, the backers will be the first to know. The updates page will be updated almost daily from launch to fulfillment.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
