Yes, we exist for a purpose greater than watches, but we're also passionate about getting our watches right!
Every detail of our Sojourner watch line is designed with durability, purpose, and sophistication in mind. We created the Crux Sojourner to be your ideal timepiece for everyday moments... whether you're out with friends or headed into a meeting at work. Each Crux Sojourner watch features:
- 42mm case diameter // Slender enough for both guys and gals
- Industry-leading Japanese Miyota Quartz Movement // For quality and precision.
- Hardened mineral crystal //A durable, scratch-resistant surface.
- Solid-milled stainless steel case // Extreme durability.
- A date complication and 60-second subdial // Beauty in the details
- Genuine leather strap // Three colorways for each finish.
- Quick-release Strap Pins // Interchangeable with ease.
- A laser-etched crown // Again, details make all the difference.
WARRANTY // Every Crux watch is covered by a 24-month warranty.
Your watch will arrive disassembled, which is on purpose. The straps must be attached to the watch face as the final step in the watch creation process.
Here's why: We consider you a partner in our cause. We hope that your feeling of ownership is cemented as you put the final pins in place. By taking these final steps in assembling your watch, you create something greater than the sum of its parts—just as together with your partnership, we can do more for the good of others.
This is what Crux is all about: partnering with visionary customers like you to see change happen around the world.
We believe that even our unboxing process should reinforce this relationship.
We care about the people we serve and the people we work with. The passion that moves us to give away 50% of our profit is the same passion that drives how we approach our relationships with our customers, employees, manufacturers, and the organizations that we support.
We aim to build a sustainable enterprise that will continue giving to others for years to come.
DIRECT TO YOU //
Crux is a grassroots operation but we have our sights set on so much more. We are a team of individuals based in Tacoma, Washington (just south of Seattle) from every stage of life with a drive to connect commerce with compassion. We work directly with our manufacturers on every aspect, including overseeing assembly and shipping, so you get the absolute best price possible.
We’re adamant about establishing a culture of giving that reaches well beyond us. We want to give you, our partners and customers, a way to make a fashion statement that goes beyond style—one that says you're making your moments count to help others.
THE CRUX VISION //
Our philosophy is best summarized like this: GIVE, GROW, and GIVE MORE.
1) GIVE: We’re committed, no matter how much or how little, to ALWAYS give 50% of our profits to worthy non-profits that are doing good for people all over the world.
2) GROW: 50% of our profit (beginning after this Kickstarter campaign) goes to people and places that need it. The other half? That’s what we use to make our products better, and our brand stronger. Research and Development, improved manufacturer relations, brick and mortar presence… The possibilities really are endless.
3) GIVE MORE: This is where it gets fun. The more people like you that decide to join us on our mission, the more we’re able to give away. By building a truly sustainable enterprise, we give ourselves ample runway to increase the size of our profit pool and thus, the size of our giving.
We believe that Crux is a watch brand unlike any other. We not only exist to create classic and high-quality watches but also (and primarily) to share the message and the means of hope. We aim to revolutionize the relationship between company and customer. Keep reading to learn about how we’re doing just that!
Our dedication to our product and its purpose quality, style, and simplicity has resulted in a line of watches that you can be proud to own, from a brand you trust.
Crux first began in 2011 out of a passion for watches and social enterprise. We wanted to see how we could create positive change through designing and producing stylish watches and giving a significant portion of our profit (50%) to people in need.
Everything changed when we were part of a friend’s video that went viral on YouTube. This sudden influx of exposure was like a spark to a pool of gasoline. In a short amount of time, we sold all of our inventory three times over. But we couldn’t support demand and sustain growth… we had simply grown too fast and lacked the expertise or infrastructure to continue.
So we hit pause.
Since we had the attention of so many new customers, wanted to redesign our products from the ground up with a new focus on improved quality and design, as well as intentional and outstanding customer service. We knew we had to minimize complexity and focus on these core ideas:
Timeless, sophisticated simplicity of style. Quality components and materials. The best customer experience in the industry. Most importantly: a continued and refined commitment to sharing the message and means for hope around the world.
So, after years of re-energizing our vision and purpose, today we’re more focused than ever. We couldn't be more excited to release our new Sojourner line.
OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM //
Our team is comfortable identifying customer needs and exceeding expectations. We have a long history of working together—we've even fulfilled thousands of deliveries to satisfied customers around the world.
Ryan and Patrick are the primary forces behind the Crux vision:
Ryan Frederick (Founder):
“Crux is a passion project and one I can’t wait to see grow to the next level. Since Crux's inception, I’ve envisioned helping people through providing amazing, high-quality watches with purpose. Thank you for considering partnering with us in this exciting time. We couldn’t do it without you and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store.”
Patrick Smith (Managing Partner):
“I’ve always been captivated by unique watches. My grandfather has a watch in a glass dome case on his desk, presented to him for 30 years of service to Chevron Corporation. As a kid I remember wanting to lift the lid and just put it on! Even at a very young age, I think this memento helped me understand how meaningful a watch could be to its owner, but more importantly, the significance of commitment and service. It’s still in his office… and I still want to wear it! I’ve spent my entire working life meeting customers and clients direct needs. I cut my teeth in retail so I know the grind. More recently I have managed inventory and shipping logistics in several high-stakes capacities, and served as project manager for a leading event registration company. I'm thrilled to be a part of the Crux team!”
Cari and Katie are also on our team! Cari manages our warehouse and fulfillment processes (she's amazing), and Katie is our Customer Care expert (also amazing).
Thank you for reading about our vision. We hope to partner with you to see our vision come to life.

Risks and challenges
We've spent the past year designing and developing our Sojourner line and the processes necessary for quality control, customer service, and sustainable business growth. However, even with the most conscientious planning, there is always the potential for unforeseen challenges.
The greatest risk we face is with timely production of the watches and bands while meeting our strict quality standards. We already have established manufacturing partners whom we've worked with for years, but there are still countless variables that could influence and delay the production process. We've sought to mitigate this risk by padding our production schedule to allow for delays while still delivering the promised rewards to backers within the expected timeline.
During our prototyping process, we invested in the necessary tooling and molds for full production of the Sojourner watch line. Our production partners are standing by to complete the vision! One potential issue that could arise is if we realize a flaw in the initial design or production process that requires additional tooling or other adjustments. We've sought to mitigate this risk by closely examining our prototypes and verifying quality according to our 15-point quality inspection standard. If our forecasted production timelines are not met, we will notify and communicate transparently with backers so they're the first to know and weigh in.
Shipping can be unpredictable at times. We will ship all orders with tracking information and give backers clear lines to ask about their shipments once production and packaging are complete.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
