Well, that’s that!

I’ve sent out all the digital rewards, and all the physical packages! There are of course still some FUTURE COMICS involved, so you all will be getting surprise bonus comics for some time as thanks for supporting this project, but everything from Whole Story Winter 2013 is done!

I made BFFs with staff of my local Korean Post-Office because I kept showing up with mountains of envelopes that got bigger and heavier and crazier with each trip. I had to borrow handcarts from the little old ladies in my neighborhood to transport them.

If you have any suggestions or feedback on how The Whole Story Winter 2013 went, let me know! I have lots more projects in the works, including a series of graphic novels that will teach you languages, a graphic novel that will teach you how to travel cheap, and of course the next Whole Story!

I have one crazy idea that I’ve been thinking about the last few days.....

For the next Whole Story, do you like the “all at once” bundle approach, or should I try a “graphic novel of the month” club so you have new stuff to read year-round?

I like the idea of once a month. Gives me something to look forward to all year!

A GNotM would be nice and focused, and would encourage discussion around the work when it is released, both in social media and various comic circles. BUT... bundles have an urgency to them that can cause an explosion of interest and exposure in no way I've *ever* seen (heard of Kickstarter? Yeah.) How can you capture one, but also the other?

      Do both.

Produce a GNotMC, and get the content out to your core fans. Then, once annually, bundle all of that up and arrange a couple or extras (as funds allow) and produce The Whole Story Bundle #X (bump up X each year). Give the extras to your monthly folks anyway! Always have a donation button up, so that folks can help out during the year, as our own things come through.

The way you're doing it (no DRM & PWYW beyond a minimum) respects the artist & respects the customer in a way that doesn't prohibit either method. Plus, there would be two ways for you to be supported throughout the cycle, in case one wanes. Monthly contributions declining? No problem, it's made up on the bundle. Bundle fizzling out due to some other Big Thing dominating the news cycle? No problem, your regulars have your back.

It can work! At least consider it.

Well, a monthly deal would essentially be 2 years of work for me-- I’d spend all this year getting things ready , striking deals, and getting balls rolling, and then all next year making sure things were finished and delivered on time!

I'd like to give the monthly idea a shot, especially if it would give the creators some breathing room to do something unique. I remember reading that Box Brown had some issues doing year-round monthly stuff. I hope you can surmount whatever things held him back.

Well a graphic-novel-of-the-month club would be different- it’d be more books, and each would have to stand on it’s own more... and the extra time would allow artists to complete more ambitious projects. I wouldn’t just hold onto already-finished books to make it SEEM like we were working harder! I LOVE the big bundle too, but there seems to be a lot of support for the GNOTM idea!

Definitely for the all-at-once option, and not a monthly deal. Splitting the same things monthly will create more "noise" and hassle for no extra gain.

I can pace myself so, well, I can pace myself and don't need it done artificially. But if I weren't able to pace myself then, well, it would have meant I genuinely preferred not to, or I would have, and if I prefer not to then I again don't need or want it done artificially.

I like the monthly club idea!

I'm with the majority - I love having this stock pile to read, but it's difficult figuring out where to start. A graphic novel of the month club would be awesome!

Graphic novel of the month sounds spectacular!

Year round monthly graphic novels! That's my vote!

I devoured them in short order, but while I enjoyed the firehose, I think a comic-of-the-month would be pretty sweet.

I have really enjoyed the big comic dump. I'm mentally rolling around in it Scrooge McDuck style. But GNotM also sounds really awesome. I love getting new stuff every month and it always comes as a bit of a surprise because I forget a little. :-)

    13. Brad Weller on

      Monthly would be fantastic.

    14. Minzoku on

I like Things of the Month! The first batches, I ended up reading ALL THE COMICS, so after getting home from work, I'd read, read, read, read... oh, I forgot to eat dinner and now it's time for bed D= So, staggering it out is an excellent idea!

    15. Zachary Gilpin on

Oh man, graphic novel of the month would be spectacular. You could even have it be a subscription model at that point?

    16. Stephen Staver on

I must admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the stuff thrown at me at once. I've been slow to make my way through them, which to read first, etc.

So I think the idea of Thing-A-Month would be mega awesome!! Gives me guidance as to what to read, and something to look forward each month. :)

I'm partial to the GNotMC model. I still haven't gotten through all the stuff from this project, and I'm afraid I'll lose track of what I have & haven't read. It's hard when it's all just a pile of bits on my computer...
