The Scratch is a weekly news aggregator, summarizing global SDA news into an easy-to-consume format. We are dedicated to making Adventist news more accessible to you. Each week our team scours Adventist news, finding and compressing headlines into two sections: “Need to Know” and “Ought to Know.”
Need to Know scratches the surface of the week’s main story, giving you everything you need to know in a fraction of the normal reading time. Within each article are links and resources to "deep dive" on topics - directing to their full-length articles.
Ought to Know covers other smaller stories in a paragraph-per-story rundown.
Each week’s brief is sent out via email on Friday and posted to the site on Sabbath morning.
Is that it?
Not at all! Our “Creatives Corner” will feature younger generation voices through podcasts, blogs, video channels, and more; highlighting those contributing to the greater faith community. We also have "In-depth Histories" that will quickly catch you up to speed on long-term conflicts and stories in the Seventh-day Adventist church. Finally, we have created a working "Glossary" to use as a tool for understanding sometimes confusing Adventist terms.
Where is my money going?
We believe in properly honoring the hard creative work of our writing team, content managers, designers, and more. Your donation will help us pay staff, solidify and improve our distribution methods, and allow us to grow and expand into more formats. It also covers ongoing fees such as our website and email distribution and helps us recoup personal expenses made to get The Scratch off the ground. This money will fund us for our first year of operation.
Who do you work for?
You. We are independent. No level of the Adventist institution has commissioned this project. This means it's not a ministry nor a non-profit. We created this from scratch to serve you and help you engage with your faith community. This was done with the intent to remain as unbiased as possible.

Risks and challenges
Because we are doing this on our own, there is no funding coming from anywhere in the church to make this happen. We've built this from the ground up using our own money. If we want to grow this and turn it into something sustainable, we need your help to do so. Two guys paying off their student loans and working full-time simply can't afford to pay a full staff for the work they do. Your support means that everyone can get paid for their work and we can expand this project in the coming months and years.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
