Rutherford Manor - Original Television Series Pilot (Canceled)
An Original Dramatic Thriller Television Series. Chilling tales of love, hate, jealousy, betrayal, and murder!
Welcome to the dark world of Rutherford Manor!
Thank you for visiting our Kickstarter page and checking out the Original Television Series, Rutherford Manor.
This new and original television series focuses on the daily lives of two families that have had business and personal ties for generations. The members of the family are extremely messed up individuals and think nothing of manipulating, experimenting on, or disposing of others as a means to their evil ends.
Set in the early 1910's in the fictional town of Rowley, Illinois just outside of Chicago, the intertwining stories of their lives and the people around them has lots of dramatic elements including love triangles, friendship, hate, jealousy, betrayal, terror, horror, and murder.
Created, written, and filmed in Canada, the show highlights the talents of the Canadian Film and Television Industry at its dramatic/horrific best and will definitely appeal to a worldwide dramatic thriller and horror audience.
CREATING A PILOT EPISODE
The intent of this campaign is to raise the funds to film a PILOT EPISODE for the series. Rutherford Manor is planned to be a full series that spans many seasons of thrilling dramatic television stories.
Once a Pilot Episode is filmed and produced, we will premier the episode in a private event for our funds supporters, and then release the episode online for viewing worldwide. This Pilot will then be used as a showcase to present the entire series, as a whole, to the major video streaming service companies and television studios.
The Pilot episode of Rutherford Manor will establish all of the key characters in the series and setup the season with a complex, compelling, and gruesome story that will completely capture the imagination of drama, thriller, and horror fans.
Our current delivery timeline for the Pilot is as follows:
1. Fall 2018 - Fundraising
2. Winter 2018/2019 - Upon successful fundraising, final roles will go out to a casting call, final actors auditioned, and roles will be cast. Costumes will be prepared and fitted. Locations will be finalized and crew reserved.
3. Early Spring 2019 - The Cast and Crew will start preparing for an early summer shoot. Scripts will be provided to cast and rehearsals will begin.
4. Early Summer 2019 - Filming of the Rutherford Manor Pilot Episode will commence.
5. Mid Summer 2019 - The Pilot Episode will enter Post Production.
6. Late Summer 2019 - The Pilot Episode of Rutherford Manor will be released worldwide online and at a variety of film festivals.
The story of Rutherford Manor revolves around two families, the Fleshers and the Savidges, who live in the small rural town of Rowley, Illinois. It is the early 1910's, and life in this small town on the prairies just outside of Chicago is definitely not like a normal typical sleepy town.
The Flesher family is known for a thriving butcher business and for its peculiar family members. People in town are quite curious and wary of the inhabitants of the Manor and also tend to think they are strange and quirky. If only they knew the horrible truth of what really happens on the grounds of Rutherford Manor.
To best understand the story, and the daily lives of the people involved, we feel an in depth introduction of the characters is essential:
SERIES MAIN CHARACTERS
Alastor’s youngest son, Nox Flesher, was an exceptional child, always designing and creating gadgets for the family home. He was considerably younger than his siblings and spent a great deal of time on his own as a boy. Many called him peculiar, sullen and said he lived in his own world. As a young adult he became more withdrawn, and began focusing his resourcefulness on mastering the skills of his forefathers which includes butchery and the procurement of alternate sources of protein. Nox attended university and excelled in the sciences. He immersed himself in the study of biology, chemistry, physics and anatomy. While at school he met his longtime partner Lilith. It was during this time a horrible accident happened scarring his face considerably. An unstable genius beyond his years, Nox continues to grow his knowledge, skills, and ruthlessness in the bowels of Rutherford Manor through experimentation on the unsuspecting victims of his horrible nature. Nox is played by well known stage actor, Matt Mihilewicz.
Lilith was timid; an outsider who rarely spoke with people. She preferred the company of her plants and animals. She studied botany and agriculture while at school and spent countless hours in the laboratory creating hybrid plants, germinating seeds, and whispering to her lab creations. Lilith met the slightly Nox late one evening while looking for samples of night blooming jasmine. Nox was seeking a nocturnal creature for analysis and study. Their mutual interest in alchemy and proclivity for invention made them kindred spirits. Nox and Lilith were inseparable after that fateful night. As a pair, their journey into the darkness became legendary. Caring and ruthlessness are the duality of Lilith’s personality. She is very protective of her kin and those closest to her. She will do anything to protect them no matter what the cost. Her ruthlessness knows very little boundaries, as she uses torture, not for others sake or the control of outsiders, but more for the pleasure it brings the black nature of her soul. Lilith Flesher is played by UK Actress Roseanna Sargent.
Over the generations, the Fleshers have indulged in the sourcing of alternate forms of sustenance by embracing their dark nature and obsessions. For years, one family has always been in the background moving ever so quietly to dispose of any evidence of Flesher transgressions, the Savidge family. Spalding Savidge carries on the family traditions with care and pride in his heritage. He is a business man, diplomat, and profound ladies man. He takes care of all business for the Flesher household, with the general public, and runs all of the family investments. Spalding is an adept street fighter, but violence is not his first choice of conflict resolution. Only the very strongest can hold their own with Spalding’s fighting ability. Nox and Spalding met on a late summer’s evening at the Flesher home. Spalding immediately saw that Nox was highly intelligent and competent, even though he was socially withdrawn. He knew he would carry on the Flesher ways, and go beyond the usual family transgression history. Through a series of events, a life bond between the two men solidified, creating a partnership that would take the mutual family endeavours into sinister territories that none of their ancestors could have ever imagined.
Spalding Savidge, the primary protagonist of Rutherford Manor, is played by Tyler Duffy whose credits include Hell On Wheels, Wynonna Earp, Fargo, and much more.
Penny was a good soul who was constantly conflicted by the family business. Her father had segregated himself from his siblings which kept young Penny from being exposed to the family and their depraved ways. Unfortunately, tragedy struck and her parents were killed in a devastating fire while Penny watched her mother and father suffer a horrible death. How the fire started was never discovered, however, the rumour in the neighborhood was arson. Distraught, and without a family, Penny came under the care of Nox and Lilith during her most innocent early teen years. Penny always thought her Uncle and Aunt were somewhat strange, but just dismissed this behaviour as quirky, until one day she learned the terrible truth. The terror of this truth caused her much internal conflict as she did not grow up around the Flesher ways. Deep down though, she was also strangely attracted to this darkness, causing her Flesher blood to take hold. It was at this time that Nox introduced Penny to Spalding as a suitor for marriage. At first, their relationship was strained as Penny tried to keep Spalding from delving too deep into the darkness. What Penny didn’t realize, was how powerful the call of her own bloodline would come to control her destiny and lead to the tragedy that would become her existence, and profound connection with the supernatural. Penny Darling Savidge is played by film actress Samantha Jeffery.
Innocent is not a word used to describe the Savidge twins. From an early age, the twins’ father, Spalding, noticed the girls had a penchant for the macabre. As young girls they would take bugs and small rodents and do interesting and painful things to them during playtime. They would treat same age rivals with an uneasy meanness that made people unsure if it was sincere or simply kidding. Their father, on the other hand, saw great potential with the girls’ obvious Flesher tendencies, and decided to assist in the development of this behaviour in their teen years. Like young kids in a theme park they were curious and excited at the possibilities. They wanted to know everything about the history of the Flesher and Savidge families. They got giddy with excitement at the prospect of helping Uncle Nox and Aunt Lilith prepare some special experiment. They learned how to BAKE with alternate food sources from Lilith, and enjoyed serving their special baked concoctions to their unsuspecting peers. They learned how to fine tune their unique abilities to become the embodiment of sugar and spice and everything NOT so nice! A next generation dedicated to extreme experimentation, and maniacal tendencies, the twins are Fleshers to the core!
Lisa and Louise Savidge are played by: Ryley Shandro, who is actually the original Lisa from the Haunted House, and Lindsay Christopher, who is also a member of Daniel Martin & The Infamous.
An Irish immigrant, and the son of Daniel and Ciara Connolly, Father Lorcan was a very fortunate boy compared to most of the Irish people that came to the United States in the 1890’s. Like most immigrants of the time, work was hard to come by for his parents who ended up working laborious jobs for the wealthy of Illinois. Some even said that Daniel became heavily involved in the seedy underground of Chicago’s criminal element. Knowing that he did not want his youngest son to be like his father, Daniel ensured that through his connections, his son Lorcan would attend Chicago Theological Society. He was adamant that his son would have a better and pure life in the Church. During seminary school, Lorcan had a very chance meeting in the local tea house with a peculiar young lad by the name of Nox Flesher. It was here that a friendship began that would lead Lorcan to discover many things that were quite contrary to the teachings of the church. Even though Lorcan was intrigued by his friendship with Nox, he finished his seminary and eventually became Father Lorcan of the local church of Rowley, Illinios. What happens after he arrives in Rowley is only told in whispers, and fearful town gossip. Lorcan’s tale is mired in deceit, lust, heartbreak, jealousy, broken friendships, blackmail, and murder.
Father Lorcan, the primary antagonist of Rutherford Manor, is played by award winning screenwriter and actor, Neil Chase.
A busy body is one way to describe Rose Connors, but, she wasn’t always that way. When her husband was alive, Rose was content raising their children, Susanne and Edward. Unfortunately, Rose’s husband was killed in a terrible accident and she was never the same woman since. After her husband’s death, she got involved in town business, politics, women's rights, and another man! This man was a charming businessman and aristocrat with a dark edge to him, none other than the Flesher front man himself, Spalding Savidge. Their affair was very passionate and turbulent which lasted for some time. The affair was quite secret and only known to a few people who didn’t dare confront either of them. It was a good thing too, as it was well known that Rose and Spalding’s wife, Penny Darling, were the best of friends, at least that’s what Penny thought. Rose is known in town as a bit of a drama queen, and tends to put her nose where it doesn’t belong, which is generally in other peoples lives. One day however, this snoopiness paid off and she discovered that her husband’s death may have not been an accident. This information, and her need for the truth, eventually lead Rose, and her family, to cross paths with someone she eventually regrets ever meeting. Rose Connors is played by actress Kimberley Philpott.

Any film or television production is only as good as its crew, and we have been fortunate to work with some very talented people so far. When we shot the trailer and vignettes in July 2018, we had 54 volunteer cast and crew who came together and created something different, high quality, and compelling to watch. We are huge believers in teamwork, and the results of what this team achieved is what you see in our trailer in this campaign. It would take quite a few pages to introduce you to everyone who was involved in the production, but here are a few of the key players.

Good writing is the foundation of any worthy television series. Our team has been hard at work for the past year developing four seasons of episodes, characters, motivations, and much more. We are close to wrapping up Season One and couldn't be happier with the results of our tales of love, hate, jealousy, betrayal, and murder. Rutherford Manor is shaping up to be as complex and interesting as any show on television, and we are excited to bring these stories to the world.

HISTORY OF RUTHERFORD MANOR
Over ten years ago, Rutherford Manor came to life as a simple idea to decorate a house, scare a few kids, raise some money for Second Chance Animal Rescue, and collect food for the local Food Bank. Started by Hugh Flesher and Therese Hansell, this small haunt grew for a few years to become a larger yard haunt. It grew to include several rooms and a theme of a crazy couple haunting the neighbourhood, Nox and Lilith Flesher. These characters were created with a small back story to bring an extra level of creepiness and scare factor to the Haunt.
Eventually, Preston Ewasiuk joined the cast and crew of Rutherford Manor Haunt and the synergy of these three people working together created a profound effect on the Haunt, its popularity, and growth into something quite extraordinary.
Preston expanded the concept of Rutherford Manor to a new level of sophistication through the creation of many new characters, trading cards, a book, and a music CD. Marketing of the Haunted House expanded greatly via attendance at public events such as the Edmonton and Calgary Entertainment and Comic Expo, Telus Fear and Phobia’s nights, Horror Con, and much more. During this time of growth in the haunt and expansion of the characters that inhabit this sinister place, Preston saw an opportunity to make a solid mark in thriller and horror pop-culture. It was then that the Rutherford Manor Universe was born and the adventure into pop-culture began. Since then, it has been a wild and exciting ride that has seen Rutherford Manor growing in popularity worldwide at a furious pace.
Rutherford Manor Haunt has won the following Haunting Awards over the past three years:
- Best Indoor Haunt Canada - Canadian Haunters Association
- Best Indoor Haunt USA - Dead with Dave & Home Haunter Awards
- Best Haunt Actor - Canadian Haunters Association
- Best Haunt Actress Runner Up - Canadian Haunters Association
- Best Haunters Videos Awards 2016 and 2017
Rutherford Manor Haunt has now grown into one of the largest and scariest Non-Profit Haunted Houses in Western Canada. It continues to scare many thousands of people each season, and help raise money for charity. (The Haunt and the Universe now run independently.)

Risks and challenges
Building a new original television series like Rutherford Manor from the ground up is challenging. Even though the concept of Rutherford Manor has been around for over a decade, with many thousands of fans attending the Haunted House each year, we realize that bringing an original television series based on our unique characters to the world is an exacting process.
When we embarked on this project, the idea in mind was always to create a Teaser Trailer, a few Vignettes, map out several seasons of the show, complete writing Season One, and film a Pilot Episode. We have nearly fulfilled all of these goals and are looking to put the final piece of this puzzle in play, the series PILOT.
The key to our strategy is to create enough extremely high quality material that will be used to approach large media companies such as Netflix, HBO, Starz, AMC, etc. Getting noticed by any of these companies is a huge task, however we believe our approach to achieving the success desired is unique and powerful.
Part of our strategy with bringing Rutherford Manor to full fruition as a television series has actually been active for over two years. We have been hard at work building our fan base both at home and Internationally through social media and the web. Our group attends several comic and horror conventions annually, networks in the industry with producers, directors, and financiers on a regular basis, and builds the social media fan-base on Facebook, Instagram and more through organic and paid posts. We have also published a book, created comic books, music, art, t-shirts, and trading cards, with a new novel, and a card game based on Rutherford Manor currently in development. The strategy of generating a product base that appeals to the pop-culture market helps to make Rutherford Manor a viable business opportunity for any of these large scale media companies.
In today's media-hungry world we believe this mix of online activity, merchandise, concept marketing, branding, high quality writing, and excellent production of media, makes our product very enticing to companies and investors. Now, more than ever in television, does a concept like Rutherford Manor have an EXCELLENT chance of going worldwide. We believe this approach helps to mitigate the risk factor and highly increase the chance of worldwide success.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
