Quick Update

Posted by Rust Devil Games (Creator)

Hey folks, I'm still working through refunds/shipping books and cards, but things will be moving a little slower than expected for a while. Last week, my childhood best friend, the guy who bought me the old Rogue Trader book (my first miniatures wargame ever) passed away unexpectedly. It's been quite a shock and helping out with the arrangements has taken up quite a bit of my time since.

As far as refunds, if you haven't been contacted and are owed a refund, please message me directly so I can add you to the list. Thanks very much for your support and patience,

Next Steps

Hey folks,

I just wanted to follow up on our recently laid out plan of action with an update:

  • The ZoA rulebook, PDF Figure Flats, and bonus Confrontation "Alone in the Dark" have been made available on our website for free. The price for the rulebook at WargamesVault.com has also been set to $0. We chose to host it via issuu.com for a few reasons: the pdf viewer is well presented in a book-like format, it is embeddable, it allows downloading of the pdf, and it is free. You will need to log in to their site to do so, however.
  • Backers who are owed a refund have been contacted via KS direct message, and will be sent product/refunds ASAP as detailed in the previous update.

Moving Forward:

  • Ongoing refunds and shipping of product to owed backers.
  • Set up .psd template for sheets of item/weapon cards to be made available for free.
  • Explore options for a 3rd party store to handle sale of any remaining inventory after refunds are complete.
Thank you once again for your support and patience.

2016 Update: Backer Refunds

Hey folks,

This is not a fun update to write, but we've been far too long without an explanation to our backers.

Unfortunately, it's time for us to tap out on this project. When Bret and my mothers passed away it took pretty much all of the wind out of our sails, and in the meantime our overhead has long since chewed up the remaining funds we'd set aside to hold us over until our book sales picked up.

I was living with my mother and performing caretaking duties while writing ZoA - she was always extremely supportive of the project. The memories of working on it are understandably linked with memories of my mother and this is what also makes it extremely painful for me to return to working on ZoA, and this is one of the biggest reasons I personally haven't been more proactive in writing more material and doing a better job of maintaining our website/storefront. This is not an excuse, simply a reason. I'm still working through this grief on a daily basis, and I've simply dropped the ball on ZoA because of it.

So, where we find ourselves is a partially delivered KS that we're unable to deliver the remaining items on. We're out of funds, but have plenty of stock in ZoA books.

Our plan moving forward is this:

  • Issue refunds to backers for any unfulfilled or partially fulfilled pledges.
  • Make our completed PDF products available via our website for free ASAP. (Reduce price on WarGameVault.com to minimum allowable.)
  • Explore options for a 3rd party store to handle sale of any remaining inventory after refunds are complete.

 On Refunds:

  • Refunds will begin to be issued January 13, 2017.
  • As we're currently out of funds, I'll be paying refunds out of pocket, in order of pledge # (i.e. earlier pledges are refunded sooner). I'll be doing my best to work through these as fast as possible, but please understand I'm taking a chunk of each paycheck to do so, and refunds to late backers won't be as timely as any of us would like.
  • We have a large stock of ZoA books, so if you would prefer, we are happy to send out books to cover refund costs at a rate of $15 each and card packs at $5 each (e.g. If your refund is $50, you can opt for 3 copies of ZoA and a card pack instead). In this way, at least we can settle up with some backers ASAP.
  • We'll be sending out an email or posting a survey around the holidays asking if backers would prefer refunds in the form of books/cards, but feel free to message us via KS sooner if that's your preference.

Finally, we'd like to take a moment to apologize to our backers and all of the miniature companies that were kind enough to take a risk and support ZoA. Our intent was most definitely never to scam or rip anyone off, simply to bring our vision of a fun game to life. We didn't get it done, and are doing our best to make it right. Additionally, our apologies go to Shane Hensley and Pinnacle Entertainment, our sincerest hope is that this KS doesn't negatively reflect on their brand.

ZoA Project Update!

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to reach out and let everyone know where we're at. The RDG team is doing our best to move past recent tragic events and continue on with making sure we get you guys your goodies!

We've just contracted a fantastic new artist to finish off the Equipment Card art and she's already underway with that, so expect to start seeing some new updates with sample cards and some more precise ETAs on the card deliverables soon!

On our plate in the immediate future is getting through a backlog of emails and messages, as I understand a lot of folks need to get new copies of the PDF and have been unable to. Our goal is to have custom, unique purchase codes to send out to each KS backer that will allow you to download directly from our store done by next Monday (3/28/16).

We all appreciate your prayers and well wishes, it has been a very rough time and we are extremely thankful to have such an awesome group of backers.

Project Status Update

Hey everyone,

I know you've all been waiting far too long for an update, and we at RDG and I personally feel awful about the delay, so please accept our apologies for that.

As you may know, RDG is made up of three people. Last July, our update mentioned family emergencies. Two of the three RDG members' mothers were admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with advanced cancer in the same week. Bret's mother passed away a few months later. I was caught in a round of layoffs from my day job in early 2015 and have been caretaking ever since, and we've just found out my mother only has a few months left. The reason you're getting this update now and not sooner is simply that my mother only recently lost the ability to read her emails, and since she backed the project, I didn't want her seeing an update like this and feeling guilt over her health impacting ZoA, which I know she would have.

In the next few weeks I will be doing my best to catch up with missed KS messages, emails, FB messages, and past orders and resuming work on the game. I personally feel an extreme amount of shame that we're so far behind, but please understand we have not abandoned or given up on ZoA or our backers, and will be getting things rolling again as soon as we're able.
