About

 .

The artwork is 95% done.  With any project, we are constantly going back and forth with the USPCC with revisions.  To check out all the cards, visit Texasplayingcards.com

100% 25K Air-Cushion Magic Finish - Don't be fooled magic finish is the same as embossed. It's FREE from the USPCC. We are funded.

150% 37.5K  Metallic Silver ink - All white in the indexes and raiment of the courts are now metallic silver.  @ .05 per deck extra; We can do that.  It's now a special deck.

If you would like to see the rest of cards visit Texasplayingcards.com or click on the image above.

If you skipped the Intro video, at least watch the 1:35 video just above. It explains why this deck is 64 cards.  Most of the time people slap new paint on the old 56 card structure and call it new.  This deck is really new.  This has never been done before and I want the first run to be as special as possible, but why Texas Playing Cards? Well, there is a short version and a long version.

The short version is everything is bigger in Texas. Playing cards have been around for 600 years.  Only in the last 200 years the Ace has been the highest card. We owe everything to the French including the current suits.  I'm introducing an American version and it just so happens this idea started in San Antonio, Texas. Most of our poker games are based upon 5 cards.  Why not have a Royal Flush with 5 court cards?

"I envision a new home game of Texas Hold'em where pocket Kings are really King"

This 64 card deck can be easily converted to the 52 cards you know and love, but I hope I bring enough to the table to convince you to consider this deck.  First, I want to put the rank of the card inside the suit.  This has been done before: Pigmy Playing Cards  I feel it needs a second look and it may be better when peeking from the felt.  Second, I wish to make the suits distinguishable from a distance.

If you would like to jump in the rabbit hole, this is the long version.  Take everything with a grain of salt.  It just lets you know what I was thinking at the time.  Things have changed over time.  Check out these two forums:

Live Discussion------>  New & Custom Decks

Live Discussion------>   Playing Card Plethora

Note: If you are a future deck creator or playing card collector, those 2 forums are an excellent resource.

If this Kickstarter is successful, I wish to make a second deck.  The ten card will be the (T)ower card. It will be sort of like a transitional card from the courts cards to the pips. The suits will be a bit fatter to better accommodate the symbol inside the suit.  Hopefully, I can move the indexes slightly more to the left to get one or two more cards in the players hand. The Jokers in the first deck are only a hint of what I would like the court cards to look like in the second deck.

I do envision a third deck. In the third deck, I wish to acquire a patent and introduce a casino game.  It will be something like "Blackjack" Instead of "21" the goal is to reach "31" with the value of the cards being: (K)ing 15, (Q)ueen 14, (B)ishop 13, (C)availer 12, (J)ack 11, (T)ower 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, (A)ce 1, Joker 0 or 16.  So basically, if you got a King and a Joker it's like a "Blackjack" Also, the cards will be similar to the Tarot cards. Why not add a bit of imagery and mysticism while playing a casino game. It's still a work in progress.

Note: This is a early demo of the box.  The real box has bottom and top flap and on the top flap where the seal will be.  On the opposite sides will read "Bicycle Stock" & "Embossed Finish" Hopefully, we will have a finished box by the first update.

Our vendors:

T-Shirts are going to be made by Expertees. They will be Gildan 2000 - Ultra cotton. You can have any color you want as long as it's black.  They will have a front and back design. Weight 6.1oz

Posters are going to be made by Alpha graphics. They will be close to the same size as an Uncut Sheet by the USPCC on Statin Poster Paper.  It has the thickness of 7mil and weight of 2.3oz.  The Photo inks are of archival quality.

The Card Coins are going to be made by Coins For Anything. They will be 1.75" Antique Brass with a weight of 1.6 oz.   This may change.  I may upgrade the coin as a stretch goal.  Card Coins are popular now as they were back in the day. History of the card coin.

The Box to hold 64 cards are going to be made by  ??????????? Still working on that.  From the 12 vendors I've contacted, I'm down to 2.  Both do embossing and foiling.  I will only do the embossing as a stretch goal.  Once I get demo box from each vendor, I'll make a decision.

Custom seals are going to be made by Rubber Duck Design.   The special custom silver seal will be Burnished Silver Foil with Metallic Silver Foil Stamping.  The regular deck with be a black custom seal supplied by the USPCC at $0.10 each.

Our Fulfillment center is going to be LMS Fulfillment located in Austin, Texas.  It's the same one Jackson Robison uses for his Federal 52 deck, and soon to be Sherlock Holmes deck.  At roughly $3.00 extra per order this has 2 benefits.  Everyone will get there decks in a timely manner and the decks will be adequately protected during shipment.

All shipping supplies will be acquired through ULINE

Risks and challenges

We have decided to keep the Fluff items simple. The Fluff items being T-shirts, Posters, Uncut Sheets, and Card Coins. Every extra dollar helps, but we didn't want to make it into a store. I'm sure most people only want the decks. We will be using BackerKit.com or possibly Pledgemanager.com sense the rewards are a bit complicated. International shipping still scares the hell out of me and rates are going up in Jan 2014. International Backers just remember the maximum amount of decks you can get in the Pip Level and Jack Level is 10. I have to keep the International package to 4 pounds or less. I've tried to accommodate Canada; I've noticed most of time they get screwed with International shipping. I've also noticed most Kickstarter projects don't take out for USA shipping when calculating International shipping fees. So this is my little experiment and if my numbers are wrong it won't hurt me as much. I promise not to sell any decks on my website until the fulfillment center has shipped out all the cards. I also promise not to launch another Kickstarter during the fulfillment process.

We plan to keep all backers completely informed with regular updates during the Kickstarter process. Probably, once a week on a Sunday night, but not more than two times a week. If the Kickstarter is successful, we also plan to keep all backers informed as to the status of the project throughout the fulfillment process. Probably, once every 2 weeks if not just to say, "Hi, I'm still here. No progress yet".

In fact, I wish to do something a little different. All backers will know how the money is being spent and they will be informed in backer updates. Yes, you will see a bank statement with the account number blacked out. I wish to be as transparent as possible. Who reads the "Risks and challenges"? Every Sunday at 10pm central time I'll open some slots of the Ace Level: If it's full. It's because of people like this that are ruining the whole Kickstarter experience. The Founders Deck: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dodsr/founders-playing-cards… Read the comments and yes, I was scammed too.
