We’re Run Boy Run

A five-piece, all-acoustic folk band from Tucson, Arizona. Two fiddles, a mandolin, cello, bass, and three strong female voices singing separately and in harmony.

Put another way, we're also two sets of siblings, college friends, and a husband and wife. Interwoven and intermingled, we know, but that's us.

Since we started together in 2009, we’ve been putting our “string-heavy, old-timey, not-quite-bluegrassy” spin on music familiar and original. Existing comfortably in the tension between tradition and musical frontier, our road has taken us across the country to music festivals, music clubs, and even on to National Public Radio’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” We’ve come a long away.

THE TOURING LIFE

The story of this new album, Something to Someone, really begins seven months and 25,000 miles ago. Going full-time with our music in mid-2013, we threw ourselves into the touring life. Covering more than 25,000 miles and performing in half of the continental states, we spread our open-ended music far and wide. There’s nothing like going on tour for meeting new people, hearing new stories, and seeing new places.

Our first national tour made us feel excited about where we were as a band and what we were doing. Inspired by the people, places, and new challenges we met on the road, we felt the need to record these experiences in the way we know best – making music.

Taking these memories and songs to simmer during an intensive but memorable music retreat, we spent two weeks in early 2014 in remote Arizona destinations. Under the sun-dappled cliffs of Aravaipa Canyon Ranch in southern Arizona and the snowy hills of Flagstaff's Museum of Northern Arizona Colton House, we arranged, composed, and practiced for two weeks straight. The result was a refined selection of music that we wanted to share. It’s a delight to think back on all the hard work that went into this album so far.

THE PROJECT

We’re coming to you now from the historic Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, a short drive from Seattle. We are thrilled to be working with two producers and engineers we really admire: grammy-nominated producer, Ryan Hadlock, who has produced some of our favorite indie-folk artists in the last few years (The Lumineers, Johnny Flynn) and our co-producer/engineer Jerry Streeter who recorded some of our favorite albums of late (Brandi Carlile, Elephant Revival).

We came to Bear Creek to push ourselves, our sound, and our songs. There’s something special in these walls, and we know our music is in great and capable hands.

Finishing our third week of cutting the new record, we can’t help but feel really, really excited. It’s been an unforgettable time of intensive song-arranging, recording, and listening from morning until late-night in a beautiful, high-beamed, restored barn. Our hearts and souls have gone into these songs and we think it’s the best music we’ve recorded yet.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Many of you have been a part of our past year of travel, music-making, and growth. Whether in the form of coming to live shows, following us online during our first national tour, or supporting our last album’s Kickstarter, you’ve shared in this exciting year.

There are a number of ways you can get involved in the final stretch of making this album happen. The songs are recorded, but there’s still a long way to go. We’re asking for $6000 dollars. Your contribution will help us with:

We’ve poured a lot of our time, creative energy, and resources into this album. Now we’re putting this project in your hands to help finish.

This is your chance to be part of the story. Thanks for your support!

Risks and challenges

As an independent group of artists, we expect that challenges may arise coordinating with the various partners helping us make this album. There are several people in our Run Boy Run 'extended family', including our album producers and engineer, visual artist, press agent, and replicating company, who have played and will continue to play a vital role in finalizing the album. We feel incredibly excited to be working with such a talented and dedicated group of people. However, as we will keep a rigorous touring schedule in the months ahead, we must continue to diligently communicate our goals and timeline with these individual groups to ensure that all elements of the album are complete by our projected national release date, September 2014. Persistent communication, a good working history, and follow-up with these groups has so far allowed us to be successful in staying on our timeline, and we anticipate this will continue.
