I am going to record / produce my new album, The Phantom Of The Disco at my home studio, during the remainder of 2011.
I hope to have vocalists and musicians perform on certain songs. Some of these artists will require compensation, and some will require renting studio time from a more sophisticated studio than mine.
Once the songs are produced and mixed, I will have the songs mastered - a crucial process that all recorded music goes through before being released. The Mastering Engineer will have to be hired.
Once the music is completed - I will release album, the most costly step in my endeavor...
I will pay to have the album pressed to vinyl, CDs, and distributed to Digital Music Stores (like iTunes, etc.)
From there, the promotional campaign begins. I will ship promo copies of the album to College Radio / NPR radio stations; as well as other DJs and music industry contacts. If I can afford it - I will hire a Radio Promotion Company to help get the word out about my new album. Without a professional company representing my album, it is likely to be lost in the flood of music being sent to these places.
The same goes for music magazines, the press, and music websites. If I represent myself, and send my album to them - it will likely be lost in the flood of music being sent their way. Yet if I can hire a PR rep, the music press is more likely to give my album a listen / write a review. So, if I can afford it, I will hire a PR company to get the word out about my new album.
At this point I will likely be in debt, but if I'm not - I would like to hire a producer or two, to do remixes of songs from the album.
I'm also hoping to create a music video - which depending on the scale, could cost more money.
And lastly, it's crucial that I perform the album live. This may or may not require purchasing of new equipment, to bring my music to life as a one-man-band. And ideally, I could hire a booking agent, to help land shows across the country, and around the world; so that I can spread the word about the 'Ruckus'.
