There is no one prototype for what a “real woman” is or should be, so why are we still being pigeonholed into ill-fitting stereotypes?
RUBY is an online magazine where every woman – no matter her age, place or background – will find the stories, tips and community that she needs in order to live her happiest life.
Through skillful reporting and creative storytelling, with careful attention to word choice, RUBY will create an inclusive and supportive environment with one goal in mind: to lay the foundation for future generations of confident, motivated and inspirational women who make it a point to champion their fellow female.

A play on "RUBY" red, the #ISawRed campaign is about an important moment where we can remember another female having a profound and positive impact on our lives. The moment, advice or experience was so great that we "saw red" – gained a fresh POV, got clarity on our direction, discovered a passion, etc. It's really meant to be a celebration of the women that we love! What kind of stories will you publish?
We’ll cover news and events around the world that are important to women – inspirational, thought-provoking or stirring. You’ll leave RUBY feeling smart and in the know.
Health coverage will have a focus on wellness; no fad diets that help perpetuate harmful body image stereotypes. Features that make every woman feel valued; stories about girls who are changing the world.
Notably absent from our feature lineup will be any kind of gossip. We won’t sensationalize. Any kind of celebrity coverage will be reserved for women who are employing their fame for the greater good. We will not promote materialistic, unattainable celebrity culture.
But that’s just the beginning!
What makes RUBY different?
Besides being a supportive “girl’s girl?” Our voice. RUBY will always be smart, not sensational. We will be witty, but never snarky. Our overall concept is inspirational, upbeat and fun, though not cutesy, naïve or superficial.
We will also recruit and pay talented, smart and professional journalists who will present our readers with important and interesting stories. Special emphasis will be placed on social interactivity between our readers and writers. Again, we’re building a community!
Why the name “RUBY?”
To have a RUBY is to have contentment and peace. Given as a gift, the gem is a symbol of friendship and love. It gives one the courage needed to live up to their potential.

Hi! I’m Katarina, a freelance writer and media entrepreneur on a quest to put my skills to use for a good cause. I spend a lot of time thinking about things like, “If I have a daughter some day, what kind of world do I want her to live in?” and “What kind of messages do I want her to be surrounded by?
