@Michael Sinclair - You're right, the general public may not realize that the current answer to the Atlantic lionfish invasion is just scratching the surface. SCUBA divers cannot reach the lionfish because of how deep a huge number of them go to breed!

Our ROV has incredible potential to address the invasive lionfish that eating everything in sight and decimating reefs and fisheries around Florida and the Caribbean. Our ROV can reach depths where most SCUBA divers cannot go, and this is a game-changer! Thanks for backing our project Michael, your support means everything to us!

Great job RSE! Having seen the robot in action, I'm a strong believer of this solution. In the shallow reefs, freedivers and SCUBA divers will most likely be more effective for culling. What most of the general public don't realize is that this solution developed by RSE is excellent for the deeper reefs and areas that are beyond the reach of normal recreational SCUBA divers (~130 feet). At those depths, specialized training and limited bottom time are the limiting factors for culling lionfish. For ROVs, this isn't a problem!

This is a big step to helping control the expanding lionfish population. Keep up the great work!

@Paul Aran - Thank you for being a backer! We appreciate the work you've done as a diver to help protect our reefs. You can find out more information about the impact of lionfish here:

I pledged because as a diver I know the extent of the problem. They eat everything and are killing life on our reefs. Each one can have a million babies over their life. I believe you need to highlight more details in the video and on the basic web site so people have more info. Otherwise, it seems like a nice project when people should know it's not nice, its critical.
