BackerKit Pledge Manger Lockdown Pushed Back to September 8, 2013

Hi there. Wayne at Palladium again.

We have received many requests to give people more time to get their orders sorted out, or to let them get one more paycheck before we lock down the orders in the BackerKit pledge manager. Well, we heard you, so we've decided to push it back a week. You now have through Sunday, September 8th, to finalize your orders in BackerKit. Sometime on the following day, we’ll lock down all orders and begin charging the cards of those who added funds in BackerKit.

If you need us to charge your card sooner, please let us know, either by calling us at 734-721-2903 or by email at kickstarter@palladiumbooks.com.

As of this post, over 150 backers who pledged extra money for Add-Ons still haven’t placed their orders in BackerKit. There are only 10 days left to do so, and we won’t be pushing back the date again. Please, make sure your Add-Ons have been selected in the BackerKit pledge manager and your shipping information is complete and correct.

Battle Foam Bag Info?

Sorry, not yet. We know many of you are anxious to hear more about the Battle Foam bag, and we are working on getting that information to you as soon as we can. We've contacted the Ninja Division guys for figure dimensions, and we’ll be talking with the Battle Foam folks about materials, maybe P.A.C.K. compatibility, and other options tomorrow or next week. All we know so far is that we've been told it should be able to contain one full Battle Cry reward’s game pieces. We’ll let you know more when we know, and we’re going to do our best to sort it out before the BackerKit closes, if possible.

Giant Tuna!

To help make up for a couple of weeks where you didn't get a preview image, this week you get a second one. Today, it’s Objective Pack 1, including “Infiltrator Max's Valkyrie,” the “Minmei Rescue” Valkyrie arm, and the Giant Tuna everyone has been waiting for!

To those of you in the U.S., have a good Labor Day. To everyone else, have a great weekend. We’ll check back in with you next week.

Personally, I planned on this being my big christmas gift to myself. So, not getting them in November is no biggy. 8)

can see it now objective pack 3 has Dolza, Breetai and Exedor standing over a table with Rick, Lisa and Ben in micro size. the objective is to escape.

@ Larry Stanton, send them a mail or call their number they should be able to square it away.

@Wayne: Thanks for the update, I appreciate the clarification.

    5. Palladium Books Creator on September 6, 2013

@Forar Yeah, October isn't going to happen. I meant to mention that in today's update, but it slipped my mind. Anything that still says October is out of date info. We had hoped to squeak it out by the end of October, but that was not meant to be.

November is almost certainly not going to happen, either. We're looking squarely at the middle of December at the moment.

Anyone know how to remove an item you've added and saved in the backerkit?

    7. There is no Wave 2 ! ! ! on September 6, 2013

So much I wanted to get but so little money to get it with, had a major car emergency which took my funds, oh well none of the extra goodies like the monster and such or even the bag, but real life bills must come first.

      @ Howard,
it's palladium that has to obey the license agreement. HG has issued license before to Toynami to make character faces. they already made mini buffs of characters.
Has nothing to do with Big West.

@midnight blue : no effing way, lol. Minmay in Macross is much more popular than Minmay in Robotech. She remains the most recognizable and bankable character in SDF Macross, and just after Sheryl and Ranka in the whole franchise.

    11. Forar on September 5, 2013

Like, at this point it's more of a running gag about the early delivery goal, and mostly I'm just curious how long it'll take before it's flat out stated that October isn't going to happen. It'd probably take a miracle to produce somewhere around 600,000-750,000+ figures and ship them out in the next two months, especially considering some of the designs are still undergoing revision, which means the molds aren't even done yet.

    12. Forar on September 5, 2013

@Lit: Oh, I know. We've chatted this out a few times in comments all over the place.

It's merely interesting to see the project develop, what *they* think is possible, and what the reality ends up being.

An end of October delivery would be fancy pants. A December delivery would be doing what they initially said they would (well, except for saying they hoped for an Oct/Nov release a mere 24 hours after the campaign ended, which might've been characteristically over-optimistic). A 2014 delivery would be a warning flag that they remain incapable of setting realistic deadlines. Not surprising, as many successful KS projects face delays of one sort or another, but unfortunate all the same.

So basically I'm winking at the tentative dates and in reality feel much more realistic about when those boxes will start showing up on doorsteps.

@Forar If this stuff is really coming from China, I'm going to say it closed some time ago, unless they are going to air express ship everything, which seems unlikely, because of the cost. The logistics of getting things out of China are pretty horrible. They could sit in customs for eight weeks.

    14. Forar on September 4, 2013

Also, I suspect Detroit Fanfare will remain our best source of up to date info on the project status for the next 2 months. Eventually they're going to need to decide whether or not the launch/debut will happen, and I imagine the Fanfare folks will want at least some kind of heads up on that sort of thing, as it might influence table space, prioritizing of events, expected lineups/traffic in the area, etc.

Maybe Big West is happy to get rid of her too?

    16. Forar on September 4, 2013

@Lit: 8 weeks to finalize whatever needs wrapping up, complete production, ship them to their distribution centers, and then get them in the mail? It could be close, but I agree that window seems to be closing.

OK hold on. PB has said they are forbidden to make any character models in order for HG to obey their licensing agreement. So how the heck is Minmay's head gonna get past HG?

If a Breetai fig would upset Big West, I really can't see them getting letting this slide. It's Minmay.

If we haven't seen any production proofs yet, it sure doesn't seem like October is possible, unless they are holding back.

    19. Forar on September 3, 2013

@Lawrence: Thanks for the heads up. Might be outdated information (as in, things might have changed in production since the magazine article was written), but it's nice to see some background info leaking out all the same. I've noticed that the last few updates have stopped talking up the possible Detroit Fanfare debut, which doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen, just makes me think there might be a little uncertainty, which is to be expected. One manufacturing snag, design hold up or transportation issue could set them back weeks or months. Fingers crossed that it won't be the case, but considering how many KS campaigns hit delays, to have one this big and successful deliver not only on time, but 2-3 months early would practically be a coup unto itself.

Given that the con is only 7 1/2 weeks away, it's possible the next month or so will be action and information packed, though the comments on finalizing things with Battlefoam leads me to believe there remain works in progress all the same.

I see game trader magazine had the street release date as shipping I October 2013.

    21. Jason S. Cope on September 1, 2013

My only issue with the delay in charging is fighting the temptation to get more stuff! *shakes fist* :). Though, truthfully, I'be grabbed everything I want, save another MAC or six.

    22. Joshua Russell on August 31, 2013

Why... I mean.. WHY would you buy 20 objective pack 2s? With that much money you could just buy a bunch of pods and veritechs/battloids and make your own objectives, they would probably look even better, for less.

err correction the 720 only has the bottom zippers but it still stacks easy with things like the plus(which has both top and bottom).

      CRL on August 31, 2013

Wayne thanks for the update. While I understand the logistics of choosing the smaller 432 over the 720, my problem with the 432 is that it doesn't have top and bottom zippers to make stackability easy like the 720. For those of us who have larger than a battlecry the 432 just isn't interesting because I don't believe it can stack like the 720. Personally I'd rather have a system like the pack Plus where I can zipper them together for bigger sets. For me if it has the plus zipper system I'm interested, if it doesn't I'm really not.

      Litsnsirn on August 31, 2013

@John After looking at it in person, it just seems small and while some of the minis might be sort of standard 28mm sized, some are bulky. One thing I think I forgot to think about, I wonder if they mean a BC with the extras or just the original BC contents?

    27. Kickstarter Crazy on August 31, 2013

@Litsnsirn Why would that be too small? The Battlecry bledge is only 96 models with all 3 modes for the Valks taken into consideration. The 432 should technically hold a Showdown pledge no problem.

Wayne, your updates are much appreciated. Hopefully you'll have some info on the design an ace contest, I'm sure all of us who entered are chomping at the bit to see who came out on top.

Is there a chance that the malcontent force org charts will be listed before the backerkit closes?

      Thanks

Many thanks Wayne, I was just reporting what I got as a reply from an email I sent them. Getting a definite answer on that before the close of Backetkit would be awesome tho :-)

    31. Jason Harris on August 30, 2013

Why are people complaining about this? Pushing the lock down further back has absolutely NO impact on delivery date.

    32. Palladium Books Creator on August 30, 2013

@Robotek19, probably more like the 432, actually. I just got off the phone with Romeo over at Battle Foam. We're still nailing down the dimensions of all the pieces and planning the tray layouts, but it looks like we should be able to get you guys some firm details around the middle of next week. --Wayne

    33. Robotek19 on August 30, 2013

For those who didn't see it in the comments a few days ago I got a response from Battlefoam directly. They said nothing is finalized but bag size looks to be about the size of a 720 or a Warmachine bag.

I'm more anxious to see the rulebook and some stats, if for no other reason than to have something to focus the anxiety of waiting several more months.

Hell, knowing Palladium, we might get a chance to catch some errors before the books are printed. Typos and errata have always been par for the course over there :D (I'm just poking fun here, I'm a lifelong rifts fanboy after all)

    37. Palladium Books Creator on August 30, 2013

@Morgan, You're right, this isn't holding up production at all. Molds are being cut for most pieces already, and a couple of other sculpts are still being finalized. Things are moving along just fine so far, regardless of the pledge manager, and one more week won't hurt anything.

And yeah, we know a bunch of people are holding off until they get more info. We're more concerned about those who haven't logged into the BackerKit at all yet. There are a few who never submitted their Kickstarter Surveys, so we don't even have their mailing addresses. We'll have to contact them directly, using whatever information we have. The smaller we can get that number down to, the better.

@Jorel, No idea. I'll bring that up in our conference call with the Ninjas today. I know there were a bunch of submissions.

@Eric Pratt, While I agree with you it's been dragging on, given it wasn't until earlier this week that the contents of what you could get was actually finalized*, I'm not surprised people haven't finished out their orders. I waited almost a month to get clarification on the VEF/1D box set. My order didn't finalize until 4 days ago.

      * And for those with more than a passing interest in the BattleFoam bags, they're STILL not able to make an informed choice. Some have also held out hope that we'd see rules/force orgs/unit stats, to better choose their initial purchase, and so didn't immediately make their choices either.

And like Forar said, I doubt this in any way significantly affects their production run. Just add X% to what's already needing to be produced, and they're golden. It's not like they have to worry about over-producing, as it'll go retail eventually.

    42. Forar on August 30, 2013

@Eric, I'm sure the PM isn't holding up production. They can already produce tens of thousands of figures based on the BCs alone, plus boxes for retail, wave one, etc.

I will admit it is kind of dragging on though.

I wonder if this is approaching a record for the longest open PM period.

      on August 30, 2013

@Paul Brown, I'd assume a failure to complete the Backerkit on time would mean the order wouldn't be part of the initial pre-release, and there would be a delay (probably post-retail release) before the order is shipped out. I'm not sure what the actual final chance to allocate pledge would be, but I'd figure if that were exceeded, then the person would get a refund for any unspent money, after taking out fees and perhaps a modest penalty. I highly doubt a communication error, or circumstances beyond control would result in a straight forfeiture of the pledge.

ETC ASSOC Group WI - Question: Is there a chance for a 3rd objective pack if all goes well?
