Checking In - A few words from Kevin

Posted by Palladium Books (Creator)

Hi guys.

As I have stated in recent Weekly Updates on our website, Palladium Books has renewed its Robotech® game license and we intend to move Robotech® RPG Tactics™ forward in 2016 in a big way. I want to get the Wave Two Kickstarter exclusives and expansion packs into manufacturing, and ultimately into your hands, as soon as we can.

Despite the fear and apprehension of some, I want to assure you that our Kickstarter backers have never been out of our thoughts, and Robotech® RPG Tactics™ Wave Two is coming. As I have stated, for strategic and business reasons we have been unable to share with you everything Palladium has been exploring, considering and working on. As you know, one of the things we have been doing is looking into and considering possible ways to reduce part counts and make the game pieces easier to put together. As we get into actual production and manufacturing for Wave Two this year, we will share plenty with you. And we think you’ll be pleased. Considering all the delays and frustration of the past, we do not want to even speculate on release dates and other details until we have hard, solid information we are confident with ourselves.

In the Spring we expect to be able to share with you much more details, information, progress reports and offer up new material on a regular basis. We’ll have some new data and material sooner, but I don’t think things will really begin to heat up before Spring or Summer. We want Robotech® RPG Tactics™ Wave Two and fulfillment of our Kickstarter obligations more than anyone. It’s coming.

Oh, and when we talk about the relaunch of Robotech® RPG Tactics™ we mean a renewed market push of the core game, regular product releases and game support, like RRT rules clarifications and elaboration, rules additions, advanced rules, demos, convention support, gaming events and promotions, adventures, PDF and physical releases, and more.

We are also floating ideas for a number of new Robotech® RPG sourcebooks for various Robotech® generations, which will ultimately result in new mecha, vehicles, aliens, and factions for Robotech® RPG Tactics™ expansions. We have some ideas of our own, but we welcome input and suggestions from you, so start kicking around ideas and don’t hesitate to share them with us.

Please know that we are truly committed to fulfilling our Kickstarter obligations and to make Robotech® RPG Tactics™ truly epic, with future expansions across all eras of Robotech®.

@Steve: Sorry for your pulling out completely. See if you can file with the AG and FTC to help hold these guys accountable. I suppose you can feel warm inside where your starter box competes with the PB overstock.

I am officially done with Palladium. I'm selling my RRT set (assuming I can find a sucker to buy it) and calling it a day. I was a fool for backing this in the first place as I have had dealings with Palladium in the past but the Robotech IP was just too much to say no to.

    3. Tyle Brown on

Well now, here's something interesting. Wonder if PB will be showing up to this or not?…

They have no truly "new" releases so cannot spin any added hype for conventions.

@Tyle: Time has passed too much for the angry mob. I think what they are facing is both their wish and fear all rolled into one: apathy. I think PB is comfortable with doing business with their established fan-friends and the sooner they can settle back to the that, the better they will feel.

    6. Tyle Brown on

Why do I get the feeling PB is going to back out of whatever conventions they'd signed up for, if only to avoid the RRT people and keep on with the "see no evil, hear no evil" ploy?

How long can they keep lying to themselves until they've finally got an angry mob outside their HQ?

    7. Talizvar on

Looks like Kevin may lose his stomach for conventions:

They will be back to no-one knowing who he is or if they do, they have some choice words for product not being delivered.

Nothing the great Kevin has stomach for.
Second worst is the ability to give straight answers.

    8. Grimoire Studios on

Well, I can be counted among the banned.

Well, PB decided to clean house over the critical voices, but obviously they don't mind a 'supportive' voice trolling people who can't respond back.

It's like a bullshit onion, each layer shittier than the last.

    14. Tyle Brown on

That's right. The response I got from Facebook when I reported the Alundra profile, that has absolutely zero information what-so-ever, that showed up only after this massive ban/deletion wave, said that the profile does not violate their standards.

@Jon Webb, the crazy thing is, we wouldn't be blasting them if they'd handled this venture properly. It started off okay, but it is literally the worst train wreck ever at this point. The continuous non-updates are the real source of the collective backlash from the backers. So yes, they should be afraid to come read these comments, and it's their own fault.

this will show how often i actually visit here. ever so often this time it was 9 days, it varies. Talizvar: I do know as i have my showdown wave one packs, i've opened one box and used one battle pod sprue to give me enough for two zentradi forces and two udf forces (I used a marauder II mini i had as the second officer's battle pod). everything else still on sprue or still baged or sealed. but yea in the summer Harmony Gold should be at a con I work. and I will talk to the rep there (it's usually one of the yuns or one other guy) so i'll do what i can. and yes something will happen even if that something is nothing. but hey it's worth a shot since i'm not spending money to see them hehe. yea i don't think pb really reads these messages because they seem to be just people blasting them ah well their loss and eventually their loss of a business as this drags out

    18. Tyle Brown on

@There is No Wave 2, I went and reported that Alundra person as a fake profile today. Facebook got back to me a few hours later and said that it doesn't violate their "Community Standards". Probably should have gone with the option to report the profile as "Represents a Company or Organization" instead.

    19. Stagnant Life on

Reposting to keep this important info high on the first page.

      To those of you wanting to take action I strongly suggest you do it now. Kevin has lied to us before and this update is just another layer of platitudes hoping to keep you from showing how upset you really are. 15-30 minutes of your life will be well spent if you file with the following organisations;

      Michigan AG:,4534,7-164-17331---,00.html
      then file here:

You can then find the current discussion about this project at

When filing I strongly urge you to be respectful and clear, there is no need to make accusations that are false. If Palladium will not uphold their promises on their own and prove work is being done on RRT then perhaps a government agency will hold their feet to the fire.

DO NOT WAIT for something to happen, go and file. You only have to do it once and the more people who do it the more weight each report adds to our cause.

    20. Nick Delciappo on

Another useless and uninformative update. No offense, but WHAT DO YOU MEAN WAVE 2 IS NOT IN PRODUCTION YET!!!!! AFTER TWO YEARS THIS THE BEST B.S. YOU CAN MAKE UP???

As an addendum to my previous post... There is literally no information on this Alundra person's facebook page, and it doesn't appear to have existed until just before all these shenanigans with the PB page started. I think my theory of her being a PB plant makes that much more sense now. It's either a PB employee of their most devout fan-cultist.

    23. Tyle Brown on

Hmm, this is interesting. I made a post on the PB facebook page yesterday responding to this Alundra person. Sometime afterwards someone replied to the post I made. I just checked the PB facebook page, currently 5 PM EST. My posts are still up, but the guy the replied after me, his post is gone and in its place I find another post by Alundra.

Coincidence? I think not. I wasn't outright attacking PB, which maybe why my posts are still up, but I was still pointing out that there's something screwy going on. This Alundra person has to be a PB plant. Anyone agree?

    24. Marek Wiernikowski on

I seriously doubt they can. The most likely situation right now is that they are out of money. File with the Michigan AG (use a fake zip code and put your actual address in the notes). File with the FTC. The BBB is basically just a warning to other consumers and not an enforcement agency but it doesn't hurt to lodge a complaint there too.

    25. Gary Whitfield on

I don't NEED PB to share EVERYTHING!

I want them to share ONE SINGLE SOLITARY THING, with evidence to back it up, that says this project is moving forward.

I dread to think of the months that have gone by without a single MEANINGFUL update. The only advice I could give anyone at PB now is "Show, don't tell.".

If anyone in the UK has a set of 2 VTs in at least Fighter configuration - preferably all 3 configurations- that are untouched. Please get in touch.

    26. Rick van Nooij on

Alright, own up. Who is the Kevin Troll on the FB page? ^_^

    27. Marek Wiernikowski on

And I've now been blocked from posting on their Facebook page, along with a handful of other angry voices. It'd be quite useful if some others stepped up.

    28. Stagnant Life on

      @Larry Algee;

File. Lower on the page you'll find the information required. Please don't wait, they aren't going to be able to produce wave 2.

      Larry Algee on

Dear Kevin, why don't you send me a message. I will send you back the badly designed and not really very detailed Wave 1 crap on my dime, still all unopened, you keep the Wave 2 vaporware and you refund me my money. Unless you are a liar and lying about all this rosy stuff about RRPGT.

    30. Merijeek on

Man, that angry 1% sure seems to be growing.

I guess the fanbase is expanding, and therefore is increasing the actual number of people in that 1%.

      It's the only possible explanation.

    31. Talizvar on

I think it is a combination of being scared of going on record in general due to whatever shenanigans they found themselves in and it all being rather pointless to give any further false assurances, at least any more than absolutely necessary.

    32. George Paresa on

Let's see, we've got Chinese new year going on which means, no progress being made on design or manufacturing. Which explains the comment about nothing heating up before the Spring. Then they'll be diving into convention season which will tie them up for the Summer. When the heck is the going to be finished? I think we've been more than patient. Every comment made on your Facebook page is in anger over Robotech Tactics. You don't even have the courtesy to give us regular updates on progress being made? I think we've earned that at the very least. Before launch we were seeing updates just about every other day. Now everyone is too scared to come on here and get ripped a new one. Well too bad, you reap what you sow.

    33. Talizvar on

But you are belittling the "progress" being made!
Just cant keep backers happy I tell you.
All these extras he has to offer, have you not been PROMISED enough and keep wanting more?
The entire PB staff would think they should all just give up due to these unreasonable demands.
Since we are all mean, they just cannot offer any information on progress.
Hasn't all this negativity led to the only logical response of silence?
They have nothing nice to say back, so they say nothing at all.
      Happy now?
They are probably drawing straws for who gets thrown under the bus next to sacrifice to the backers and Kevin so everyone else can remain blameless.

Or maybe blame Mike since he had a history of submitting material and is letting them down as a source of product and ideas since they do not understand this new fangled tabletop not-RPG miniature thing.

    34. Tyle Brown on

@Brian Ledbetter, the #1 thing PB as a whole, and Kevin Siembada especially needs to do is just straight up apologize. They fucked up big time. We know it, and I hope to Christ that they know it... Because if they don't know it then I have to wonder how the fuck they managed to stay in business as long as they have... And seeing as some of their products took over a decade to actually produce, I still end up scratching my head over that one.

They need to apologize and give us a full breakdown on exactly what they spent all that money on, because I'm almost certain they spent money on those convention exclusives and those conventional ground forces, that should have been spent on the actual minis we were shown in the first place.

Max, Miriya and the other heroes should NOT have been convention exclusives. They should have been part of the core game from the start. That's what galls me the most about how that aspect was handled. And those fucking conventional ground forces... Ugh, where the fuck do I even start with that? We bought into this game for the MECHA, am I right? Not bog standard 21st century tanks and other shit that we could get from other companies.

    35. Max on

I just see it as proof that only "1% are haters" comment is more of Kevin's exaggerations.

    36. Forar on

Eh, I wouldn't worry about "likes". For some, they're just happy to see an update. For some, it's "sticking it" to those who are frustrated (in general or by such things in specific). Some don't even bother reading what is there.

30 people out of 5,342 is a rounding error, and it's fairly standard compared to a lot of their updates. Even ones giving terrible news will generally get 20-30+. *shrug* It is what it is.

    37. Talizvar on

BTW what is up with the likes?
I will not rage against them just not sure what is liked.
That Kevin bothered to update at all and we are trying to positively reinforce?
I must admit the statement of "going into manufacture this year" gives that completionist part of me false hope, the realist in me is saying "lies! evil, evil, pants on fire lies!".

    38. Talizvar on

@Brian: good point on the starter box composition.
Your second posting is a bit of a... stretch I think.
Selling books is PB's thing, free would not work plus they are out of gas so they have no sizzle to sell (you like how I tied that in?).
Right now they are looking at dead cow and not sure how to proceed while things proceed to stink.
I think I took that far enough.
All the thoughts are good it is just PB we are dealing with here: doing the right thing and making sense is not their typical behavior.

    39. Brian Ledbetter on

Oh, and a couple more things.

I think it would be a great gesture of apology if you went ahead and gifted everyone, who ordered the Battlecry or above, the final unlock goal of the campaign, the YF-4 wing, as a way of saying, "Thank you for your patience and support, we are sorry this got so messed up and took so long.".

And you should probably apologize to, and start trying to mend fences with, your our unofficial leaders of fan support. One guy who's initials are M.A., stands out in particular.

    40. Brian Ledbetter on

You want constructive feedback and advice? OK, here it is:

Remove one Battaloid (that has 2 battaloids on it), Guardian, and fighter sprue from the starter box. Replace it with 2 sprues of Battlepods (3 Battlepods per sprue).

Doing this will give the player two forces.

      4 man UEDF Valkyrie Squad
4 man UEDF Destroid Squad = 140 points

      12 Man Battlepod Squad
6 Man Battlepod Squad with Officer and Recon Pod = 140 PTS

Both make small legal armies. They can then play around with adding upgrade points to either side.

Re-do all the tiny little cards to all be full playing card sized.
Get the blast template painted like it was supposed to be in the first place.
Include the detailed assembly instructions found online.
Update the rule book with the current errata (Blast rules).
Make the rule book available for free online, this is a Miniature game (at this point it's better to sell the sizzle than the steak, and we both know it).

    41. Talizvar on

Now we are throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

      RRT community = good.
Find happiness with like-minded people in a forum of acceptance.

      PB company = bad.
Keep waiting for product to take an eternity to show while running the risk of being banned in their forums for asking a question.

There, hope I helped point that out properly. 8-P

Another day, nothing for it but wait for another "update" sometime this weekend.
It would be nice to see some headline that FTC swings into action with some company in Michigan, but I dream.
In the meantime, if anyone has done much with their wave1 stuff, swing by the RRT proboard and let people know... might as well be positive than grumping here all the time.
Not that I would discourage expressing ire here mind you!
Got to let PB know we have not forgotten their obligations as of yet.

@Mathew: A few pointed questions or comments on Facebook is helpful.
Not buying from them would also have no small effect.
The difficulty is it might be easier for PB not to "waste" another dollar and just plain not ship and delay forever.
Forcing some kind of action and disclosure is looking the only option.
Please file especially with the AG and FTC, it is easy to do and is positive action.
It will force activity or at the very least, let us know what is going on.
I AM making use of what I have, it is just a shame to leave us hanging like this with some long anticipated models hanging in limbo.

    46. Mathew Daley on

I'm glad to hear that Palladium was able to renew the license. I didn't know that the license was in jeopardy. Imagine how embarrassing it would have been if the license wasn't renewed!

In all honesty, I have completely put this in the "Lessons Learned" category. I have written this project and Palladium off. I'm not going to go on Facebook and flame them, it does nothing. I have for the last year, not bought a single book from Palladium, for the first time in years I did not do the Christmas Grab Bag. There's no further point in lamenting or screaming or shaking of fists.
If Kevin and the others want to keep telling us "Oh, it's coming! It's coming!", I say, let them. There's no reason to discount their words. The only true determination of the status of Wave 2 is when it is on my doorstep. Every word typed, put on podcasts, or youtube video are hollow echoes until evidence is provided, in the form of actual product.
Every update just makes me more and more upset. Personally, I would, at this point, prefer to hear "We're sorry, we screwed up. We didn't understand what we were getting into. We learned out lesson... but there's nothing more that we will be releasing until the game takes off." These empty promises of the last few years just leave me more and more bitter.

    47. Talizvar on

      @Jon Webb: Welcome back!
A positive thing is we got the starter box and a couple accompanying add-ons.
The negative thing is I have a "partial" collection and may not see the rest.
The wave2 models are some of the more iconic / cooler models we are missing.
The completionist in me is dying a little death at the moment.

The pointless complaints can be turned into action: please file with the various consumer protection groups: they are here for this very reason so please use them.

Contacting Harmony Gold is an interesting direction to go.
Some are of the opinion they are uncaring in this matter but personal experience is best.
Please keep us informed of what kind of response you get, it would be of interest.

To have to wait for product paid for, for over 2 years tends to raise a bit of negativity and skepticism when the company keeps promising something is being done but no examples for over a year.

Hang in there, take some productive steps to help things along and maybe we will see some closure of some kind.

      Jon Webb on

I took a while before coming back.. and I am not turning into a PB must die type, but I am tired, I am upset and frankly do not want to worry about things anymore. my "kill them with kindness" was not meant to talk about paying for their products, but just not bashing them so bad, let them wallow in their own damn misery they have up there, and just knowing you feel you are right and that they will eventually fall on their face... and yes I may file soon I do not know. and I will watch for information if there is actually any legal options around, it will be hard to do i'm sorry i'm not going to pay for things and be happy with 5 bucks in exchange for what i have still to come.... but if i can get my original pledge AND the extra back, I would be happy as it is.

I am going to contact Harmony Gold and let them know how their IP is being treated and how much ill will has been garnered in addition to the ill will they already have about the over all macross product.

I will also say this: @donn Turner: I would love to see the proof you have of your accusations, you are forming your estimates based only on a picture to value of what has been paid. only opening the books would be the only way to be able to say that what you are spouting is true and unless you have that this is easily libel and/or slander if it turns out to not be true.

If we are not investors, and we are not customers (by kickstarter's own description, we are not buying a product) what are we? some where in between? is there a problem some where? yes, but with the ambiguity, you will find that it will easily go with the easiest path to complete any investigation, and say we were investors.

I visit here very rarely because i am tired of the pointless complaining and false accusations here. and i'm sure other people like most of PB rarely read comments here because it has been negative even before the first deadline.

    49. PB Show Me Don't Tell Me on

Read the first paragraph got to as soon as we can, closed the page and did the Picard facepalm.
And then went back to dropzone commander painting. :)

    50. Forar on

@Robert: I know some people who have said they enjoy the game once they got a reasonable force built up. Most of the complaints I've seen aren't from lack of numbers of models (anyone with a Battle Cry has a good start, a Showdown or above is an absurd number), but from force diversity. Each side has 5 types of figures (including VT's as a single that happens to be able to alter its stats), with some more useful than others (the Recovery Pod isn't exactly in high demand, from what I've heard at least). Roughly half a dozen figures per side remain in limbo, which would allow for considerable force diversity on both sides. Sure, you can add characters or alter what upgrades a squad takes, but at the end of the day VT's/Destroids versus pods only has so much variability, at least compared to the money people put in for MAC-II's and FPA/MPA/etc.

@Steve Smith: we can swear here. Not even a profanity filter. Mother fucker. See? If you're going to drop f-bombs, at least have the courage to actually do it. We're all adults here.

That said, if you call the garbage above an 'update', you must be truly easy to please. It... it literally tells us nothing.
