How did Closet Haikus start?
Closet Haikus started as an intriguing way for me to explore my own coming out journey. While I was thrilled with the haiku's I wrote on my own, I couldn't shake the feeling - there are many more stories than mine.
There are literally millions of coming out stories, and I quickly realized that Closet Haikus could be a unique way to tell the story's of a much larger audience.
Why Are You Writing This Poetry Book?
I'm a creative individual who seeks community. I pride myself on being involved in numerous creative ventures and publications.
Through Closet Haikus, my goals are two-fold.
First, I want to provide a platform for members of the LBGTQ+ community and their allies. This collaborative collection will act as a creative space in which we can learn from one another and educate other communities.
Second, haikus are a fun and accessible way to tackle both the serious and hilarious aspects of coming out. Through haikus, and through your collaborative partnership, I hope to paint an accurate picture of the coming out process from a variety of perspectives.
How Will You Include My Coming Out Story?
First and foremost, as a collaborative partner, you will provide me with a snapshot of your coming out experience or an experience you had as an ally. Something specific and deeply profound. Think a 100-word summary of a moment you'll never forget.
As the poet creating and authoring this project, I will read and creatively interpret your story, and then write a haiku.
In the collection, your name (first name and last initial) will appear alongside the haiku. A little piece of your story will be shared with the world!
How Does This Help The LGBTQ+ Community?
This collection enables those without the resources or know-how to be a part of a collective story-telling project. What could be more empowering than having a small part of your story shared?
Regardless of how you identify, we can all be better at understanding and supporting one another. This collection can play a role in our own education, as well as the education of those who do not identify themselves as members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Additionally, when the collection is made available to the public, 25% of profits will be donated to LGBTQ+ nonprofit organizations.
How Do Will You Use These Funds?
Communicating with collaborative partners, writing haikus, and producing a poetry collection takes a lot of time. The funds contributed to this project provide me with access to tools that can help me do these things efficiently.
Funds raised also pay for the ISBN, marketing, printing, and shipping of physical copies.

MY OVERALL GOAL:
To surpass the $2,500 dollar goal.
I want to include as many individual's stories as possible. This community, and the community of supportive allies, is vast. If we can have 500 haikus in the collection - 500 people's stories in haiku form - I think we'd be doing a pretty amazing thing.

Risks and challenges
The timeline and rewards for this project are all realistic.
The only challenges I anticipate are tracking the communication between myself and collaborative partners, but Kickstarter's surveys help a lot with that!
