---Original Campaign Text---
Are you ready for the most complete, customizable, intuitive, and beautiful Toolset for running your Tabletop Role Playing Game? Us too. Get in early and help us build the revolutionary application that will enhance your game like never before.
What is RPGSmith? RPGSmith is "currently" a free application to be used primarily by Players to build and manage their Characters, on any device, for any game.
With RPGSmith you can:
- Manage your character through a revolutionary tile-driven, interactive character sheet.
- Keep track of your items, spells, and/or abilities in an intuitive, searchable and feature-rich interface.
- Perform dice rolls quickly and easily through our interface. Include character modifiers automatically and save dice roll configurations in a myriad of methods.
Not only can you manage your character, but you can also build out an entire game in RPGSmith complete with all the character stats, items, and other content. You can also share your creations with other RPGSmith users who can then import your Rule Set, create a character and gain instant access to leverage all of that content.

Why the KS?
The player version is just a small taste of what's coming. The tip of the iceberg as it were - if the iceberg were a complete set of intuitive and collaborative tools to automate and enhance your table top RPG game and connect the GM and players like never before.
We are expanding RPGSmith to include a GM Campaign management interface with which other player accounts can join and interact in the world the GM creates and controls. While the funding goal gets us to the base features (details below), the stretch goals will expand the capabilities and unlock your gaming potential in some never before seen ways.
Base Funding Goal Reward
The initial funding goal will provide us with the ability to build the base GM functionality. Once in place, users can purchase subscriptions for a GM account which would include a number of features not available with the free player version. GM accounts can:
- Create and manage campaigns (similar to Rule Sets in the current player version).
- Invite player accounts to join their campaign.
- See their player's character's dashboard.
- Make updates to anything on their player’s characters, including character stat values, inventory, etc. (If allowed by the Player)
- Make updates to the Campaign settings (such as creation/removal of character stats, new items/spells/ abilities, updates to the default dashboard, etc.) which would be automatically updated for the PCs.
- Provide a chat interface which all users joined to the campaign can use to sending private or public messages with anyone else in the campaign.
- Share handouts, images, and other information with the players through a document sharing interface.
- Build and control a campaign page of tiles visible to the players where the GM can store text, notes, images, counters, and other tiles.
- Provide all users in the campaign access to share Dice results in real-time.
- Have access to a campaign dashboard similar to the mock shown below. This will give GMs a high-level view and instant access to content they control in their campaign.
Get in now, save a bundle, and Forge an Epic Game!
True, this Kickstarter campaign is to build a GM feature set, but we've also got a bunch of rewards with which players can take advantage as well. Check out the graphic below for the rewards that best interest you.
Base GM Features
Let’s dive in a little deeper on the features included in the Base funding goal to answer the question "What do I get with a GM Account?"
Campaign Creation and Management
With a GM account RPGSmith will be able to facilitate campaigns creations, up to 3 of them by default, more if extras are purchased. Campaigns have all of the features and functions that a Rule Set on the player account does. In a campaign, GMs can create records of Item Templates, Spells, and Abilities. They can also manage Character Stats, Default Layouts, and the general settings of the campaign.
Also, like Rule Sets, campaigns can be 'Add'ed quickly and easily from our 'Core Rule Sets' which will have a bunch of popular games like Dungeons and Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds, Fate, and even some lesser-known indie games, all ready to go. GM accounts can also 'Create' a campaign from scratch. And finally, a GM can also 'Import' a Campaign if another GM wants to share their creation. Regardless of which method is used to obtain, the GM can customize any aspect of the Campaign, including updates to Records, Character Stats, and Layouts. All can be adjusted to suit the GM's preference and build the world however they like.
With the GM features included in the base funding goal a GM can now invite RPGSmith Player accounts to join their campaign. The base GM account allows for up to five (5) player slots for a given campaign, with the option to purchase additional player slots as needed. If a GM has multiple campaigns, they can have different players joined to the different campaigns, the same players, or a combination of both.
Once players have joined a GM’s campaign and created a character, any new content the GM creates in the campaign would be available to the Players. Homebrew spells or items could easily be deployed to any character in that campaign.
Character Sheet Sharing
As a GM, have you ever needed to help a player with their character sheet? Perhaps it’s a new player unfamiliar with the game. With this feature, the GM can see and even make updates to a given Player’s Character and interface. The GM can add, edit, or remove records (Items, Spells, Abilities), they can update character stats, and most importantly they can edit the dashboard. For instance, if the GM needed to help the player build a dice command string, they can now just create a command tile on the player’s dashboard and display it however they like.
The player can choose to allow or revoke access to their character sheet by the GM at any time. So for those that prefer their GM keep their eye’s and hands off of their precious character, this is how.
A chat interface would be created to allow anyone in this campaign (GM and Players) to send chat messages to a single person, several people, or everyone in that campaign. The interface will be built to easily identify who sent the message, and to whom the message was sent. Color coding of the text can be configured to easily identity who is chatting at a glance.
The chat interface will also facilitate the sharing of dice roll results. This would allow everyone in the game to share in the triumph, or anguish of the player's chance results.
The chat interface will be available in a couple of different sizes and orientations to ensure you have options that suit your preference.
Handout & Document Sharing
GMs will have a storage area accessible by the players with which they can store and share handouts, images, and other information. The GM can even configure this area to allow the players to upload and share content as well.
The GM will have control over a Community Dashboard in the campaign with which players have access. A good use case for this is if the GM would like the players to perform a dice roll, he can simply ask them to do so on their own, or he could create a command tile on this community page, and ask the group to go and press the command tile. All players that clicked the tile would then have the dice roll executed and displayed in the chat screen. We'll even build in some controls that will allow the GM to hide these results, then display at a later time. This provides some interesting RP possibilities as the players all executed a roll, but have no idea what their results were. Then GM can then choose to make those public at a later, more dramatic moment.
Like all dice rolls, Character Stat variables can be included in this so even though all players are launching the same command, each has bonuses specific to their characters included in their rolls. Might be a nice way to have the players ‘Roll Initiative’ or make a ‘Perception Check’ without them even being sure for what reason they executed the dice roll.
There’s also a ton of other great uses for this the GM can leverage with just a little imagination. Post images of what the group has seen in their current area. Make a counter to display and track any common information. You could even easily use this to easily track initiative, but there will be a better interface for this specific example if we unlock enough stretch goals.
The base GM features noted above are very nice indeed, but we didn't come here to just provide nice. Help support this Kickstarter and see the application expand, not just for the GMs, but for players as well. Much more detail for each stretch goal will be provided as those are announced to be unlocked next. If you've browsed our site I'm sure you've seen us mention things like In-Game shops, Combat Tracking, Monster creation and more, but we've got a couple of surprise ones as well should we get through the publicized future features.
Check out the video below where David talks about some of the Stretch Goals that could potentially be unlocked with your help. If you like what you see then spread the word and help us pack in more and more features!
If you were interested in our Shirt offerings. Here's what they look like. If you're one of the few and proud that backed our 'Pilot' level, put on some Orange colored glasses and stare at the bottom shirts below for a preview of those.
At the conclusion of the Kickstarter we'll send out a pledge manager so that you can confirm for which rewards you want your pledge amount to purchase. If you are intending to purchase multiple rewards (which I highly recommend) simply over-pledge by the amount you would like to spend on the extra rewards.
For Example, if you are interested in purchasing the following rewards
- 'Committed' ($75)
- '2-year Wolf Pack' ($70)
- 'Busy GM' ($20)
Just pledge $165 total and select any of the 3 above initially. You'll receive a pledge manager survey after the completion of the KS to confirm your reward selections, you can even change them then if you want.
*NOTE* The only reward for which you need to select during the KS to ensure you reserve it is the 'Pilot's License' as these are in limited quantity.
Risks and challenges
While we're very confident in the delivery times provided for the features associated with the reward levels, We can't however guarantee all of the stretch goals will be available when we launch the GM tools.
We're not going to hold back getting the GM capabilities in your hands to fine tune a couple one of the hopefully many stretch goal features. Instead, we'll release the features as they're developed, tested, and ready for production so we can get as much and as many of the tools into your hands as quickly as possible.
