I am finally recording my first full-length album and by pledging through this campaign you will help to get it finished and then get to hear it first!
There will be old songs and new songs on this album, traditional and re-worked folk songs as well as those I’ve written. Songs of women and from their voices, songs and stories from where I grew up in Wiltshire, songs of struggle, love and death (it is a folk album after all…).
My as-yet-unnamed debut album is already under way with demos of 12 tracks recorded with producer Tom Wright, the photo shoot in the diary with Louise Bichan, and Elly Lucas on board to work on styling and design. Melodeon player Ollie King and guitarist Jefferson Hamer are confirmed guests with more brilliant musicians yet to be announced.
If you’d like to help me make this album a reality then there are a number of rewards that you can pledge for; I’m not asking for your help with nothing in return! In addition to pre-ordering the CD, there are photo prints, exclusive unreleased tracks, limited edition artwork and even house concerts up for grabs. If I reach my target then the record will get made and you will receive your rewards!
The costs involved that will be covered by this target include:
- Recording & studio time
- Guest musician fees
- Album artwork & design
- Manufacturing of the CD
- (plus producing & posting the Kickstarter rewards)
If you amazing people get me beyond this target then any additional funds will go towards a PR campaign (to get the record into as many hands and ears as possible) and touring the record in Spring 2017 (I may be able to afford to take more accompanying musicians with me).
Thank you for reading about this project and being part of getting this album made, I can’t wait for you all to hear it!
Risks and challenges
There is a possibility that despite reaching this target, making the album goes over budget (if I need an extra day in the studio or another guest musician, for example). If this happens I will cover the extended budget myself and the album will still definitely get made.
I've already recorded demos of most of the tracks so nearly all the material is ready meaning I don't need to worry about a musical creative block. It's possible that some elements of the project might overrun causing the release of the record to be pushed back. I have scheduled in some contingency time but there's always the possibility that it won't be enough. If this happens I will keep all Kickstarter supporters fully informed of the new release date.
I guess the other potential risk is that some of the rewards take longer to produce than anticipated or it's difficult to find an appropriate mutual date (guest tickets/house concerts). If this is the case I will communicate with you all and make sure all pledgers are happy with what's happening.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
