- 11 artists in a kickstarter to fund the printing of 11 illustration and comics books!
At Rope Press we've been making prints, artists books, zines and comic books for artists for for over 6 years. It all started as a desire to publish our work as students and the work of artists we loved, over time we split ourselves between offering services and publishing which became an exciting hobby but it was never our main focus and we always wanted to give more time to it but couldn’t and we could never put out all the cool projects we wanted which made us sad.
We have always loved working with artists. Having all these years of experiences in print production, taking our work to book fairs internationally and producing exhibitions, we have since made it our mission to pursue publishing and representing artists for exhibitions our 100% focus.
So 6 months ago we dropped everything and took the plunge into publishing full time working out the quirks programming our seasons and developing ideas with the coolest of cool artists which we couldn't wait any longer to work with!
We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve had recently and over the years and we’re so grateful that so many people find the work of the artists and that we do of value and extra super grateful to everyone who’s been following us, buying our books, prints and zines and generally engaging with the work we do, your the reason why we do this! It’s been amazing and it's finally time to level up!
We’re on Kickstarter to kick it up a gear and make 11 illustration and comic books with 11 incredible international artists.
The biggest differences which makes this transition more expensive than anything we've done before is we want to produce virtually all the books using offset printing and in larger runs which will offer us more flexibility in design and offer more creative options for us and our artists as well as making it simpler and sometimes even cheaper per unit than risograph. It also gives us back valuable time for our small but hard working team to prepare work on pre-production as well as the proper marketing and planning we need to successfully run a our business as a publisher.
-------------------- Celestial Broadcast by Ardneks ------------------
Indonesian artists and designer Ardneks, loves blending the divine, tropical and retro culture to produce these beautiful nostalgic almost drug infused images! Ardneks is almost a synonym for paradise and his first book Celestial Broadcast documents his style, working methods along with 100 plus pages of concepts, finished designs and his signature explosive pallet.
"His colors are so vibrant you can nearly taste them. There's an ever-present subtle symmetry in the background; a foreground a harmonious story with hidden cult-favorite references. His landscapes almost always involve a dynamic marriage between Japanese anime skyline and the classic retro Memphis architecture. They're like something from those wonderfully bizzare dreams that you can't seem to recall in sobriety." - Puri Dewayani, Globetrotter
"I believe everyone experiences various phases in life so I’m hoping when they see this series, read the narratives and listen to the songs each is inspired by, they can relate to it and have a nostalgic trip down memory lane.” - Ardneks in It's Nice That

----------------- With a book in hand by Ryan Humphrey -------------
"Humphrey’s work is ambitious and immediate. His drawings are rough. You can feel the pencil marks on the paper. The heart takes over, instinctual and raw. A wonderfully manic expulsion of ideas spill on his paper and I can’t stop looking." - Chris Jalfuka, Evil Tender

----------------- Inside the Palace by Alice Bloomfield ---------------
There’s something both seductive and sort of startling about Alice Bloomfield's work, every time we see it we get goosebumps, its like being underwater at the sea floor and a glowing light enchants a fish only to have a huge much more scary fish eat you whole and drag you away into the dark.
Through her new book Inside the Palace we get to learn more about this feeling of whats underneath and hidden through over 100 pages of artwork comics and sketches!
"My art is inspired by digital culture; how individuals present themselves as subjects of their own fabricated world. They show themselves in their luxurious settings, living their opulent lifestyles to be envied by their followers. This fascination with luxury and always wanting more than what you have fuels my art.
However one of the main problems with this facade of wealth and perfection is that it does not often mirror what is underneath, and this is what I would explore in my book. The book will be of sketches, drawings and comics, centred around a main character and the relatable thoughts and conflicting experience." - Alice Bloomfield

-------------------- MAGNUM 2 by Filippo Fontana -------------------
"The influence for Magnum was inspired by the figure of the “nouveau riche,” a term to describe those who have only recently gained wealth and often perceived as having money, but no taste. Filippo was originally interested in graphic design but his comic was born out of an attraction to illustration combined with “a growing interest into the role of money in contemporary society. The comic book seemed like the perfect way to combine the two, and to comment in an ironic manner on this topic.” - Lucy Bourton - It's Nice That
Magnum 2 - the sequel of Magnum - is a comic book inspired by the role of money within the contemporary society.
The incisive narrative style and the absence of text ease the spread of a politically incorrect humour, which pushes the reader to think critically about the relationship between wealth and humans.
Referencing some of the most iconic superheroes of classic comics, the book expresses several considerations and criticisms about capitalism and plutocracy.

Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
We have already been making books for over 6 years now and we know what we are doing. The only risk we can consider is a book delay by chance that the artists want to extend their deadlines.
If we don't make the goal, it will be much much more difficult for us to make these books and getting them made wouldn't be possible, mainly due to economical restraints.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
