We, the crew of The Prescription, would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our Kickstarter page and tell you a little bit about our project.
The Prescription is a dark, gritty love story told in retrospect, where the female protagonist copes with the absence of her lover by plunging into an ugly realm of drugs in which she is then introduced to a new drug in the market. The fictional drug allows the subject to revisit her past memories with her lover, but she soon, however, slowly loses grasp with reality. Please visit the link provided to see a short film that he has completed a year ago that will contain a similar aesthetic.

The Prescription is a short thesis film by writer and director Fil Medina, a senior undergrad student at Hunter College. This project aims to be distributed into film festivals across the country. This project is also a story arc from a feature film that he is currently writing. Completing this film can potentially secure us funding for our feature in the near future, which is why it must be done right!
Many of our shots will need to be hand-held, for practical reasons as well as aesthetic. Our director, Fil Medina, does not want the shots to be distractingly shaky, and our Director of Photography, Daniel Cowen, highly recommends the Merlin Steadicam - It is inexpensive and he has used it before and liked it.
So time for some Q&A.
Q: "What on earth is a steadicam?"
A: A steadicam is a stabilizing mount for a motion picture camera, which mechanically isolates the operator's movement from the camera, allowing a very smooth shot even when the operator is moving quickly over an uneven surface. Informally, the word may also be used to refer to the combination of the mount and camera.
Q: "Why do you need one?"
A: While the Canon 7D is an amazing HD camera, it is rather small and does not take to hand held shots all too well. Our plan is to shoot the bulk of this film hand held, and the use of a steadicam will offer us amazing potential to get some stunning shots. Here are a few links to youtube videos of the Canon 7D being used with the Merlin, one is even shot on roller blades!

Q: "Why not rent one?"
A: Honestly, it turns out cheaper to buy a Merlin vs. rental costs for any other steadicam.
Q: "What are you going to do with it after the film?"
A: Keep it obviously. I am producing a few films this year actually, this would be a shiny bit of equipment to have available.
Q: "How much is the Merlin really?"
A: I ain't trying to jive ya. Take a look at it in all it's glory -> http://tinyurl.com/ybl4anl
