Starstorm Report #19: The Way Forward
Hey all, another update just in time for the weekend!
Ever since the Kickstarter campaign ended, we've been fleshing out our plans for the coming months. Because this campaign has been such a tremendous success, there are a lot of new things lying on the table. Coming up with a plan to get all of these new features, and all the new content, out into the hands of our community has taken us a little longer than we had hoped for, but we're ready to share our plans with you now!
But first it's time for some good news - we have received the funds from this campaign, and after doing a lot of counting, we are happy to announce that we have passed the $415,000 mark! That means that a fifth character will be included in the Starstorm line-up! Right now we don't even know what this character is going to be... But we have loads of cool ideas and will be doing some thinking about this over the coming weeks. Once we've got some concepts sketched up, we'll let you know!
So, let's take a look at our plans for the future! We've got quite a lot of stuff ahead of us, and as we have a rather small development team it's going to take us a long time to get all these Starstorm features shipped. As you can see in the roadmap below, we currently expect that the last couple of features won't be ready for another 12 months or so. Things might go a little faster than we expect them to, or they might take a little longer, but we'll keep you up to date on how things are progressing!
Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind when reading through the roadmap below is that we want to make all these features available to you as soon as possible. Many of the features, like the spectator mode and custom game modes for instance, will first be released without all the extra features, and they'll be fleshed out over time.
As you can see, we're aiming to have the first version of the replay system ready before the end of the year, and the first set of Custom Games features might even make it into the release version of the game before the end of the month! However, spectator mode won't be fully finished until Q3 2013, and we'll be expanding the Custom Games feature even longer than that. We'll continue to add more functionality to those features as the months progress, and will be taking your feedback into account to make sure we keep going in the right direction.
Outside of all the big, technical features for the game, we will also be working on new characters and the new Starstorm map. Ted McPain is already coming along well, and we'll be moving on to work on Sentry X-58 after that. At the same time we'll also be kicking off development of the new map. That is really going to take a couple of months of work and take up a lot of time for our designers and our artists, so we'll not be able to get the remaining two characters out as fast as we would like at the same time. The remaining two characters will follow after the map goes live.
That about covers our plans for the coming year. Ofcourse, there are lots of things that will change as time goes by, and we'll be doing many additional things outside of the headlines above. As we've said before... we'll keep you updated! If you have any questions, just let me know and I'll try to clear things up!
Before we all head into the weekend, I'd also like to give a special shout-out to Happion Labs. As you have probably noticed, your payment for this Kickstarter campaign didn't go straight to us, but was sent to Happion Labs instead. Without their help, Starstorm would have never even been possible! They're currently working on a game called Energy Hook, which quite frankly, is pretty awesome! You can check out their work over here, and it would be especially cool if you could help them get their game onto Steam by voting on their Greenlight project.
Give it a "Thumbs up" if you like what you see!
For now, have a great weekend and don't forget to ronmapls.
