What you see in the video clip, you'll get more of in the book.
My documentary, Wisconsin Supper Clubs: An Old Fashioned Experience was released in April of 2011 and since then it has been broadcast on PBS stations nationwide; it was written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, The Milwaukee JournalSentinel, various print magazines and online blogs. I was also a guest on Rick Kogan's Sunday Papers show on WGN in Chicago.
The Topic: Supper Clubs
Wisconsin supper clubs have been a dining tradition for generations, but as corporate chains increase, are these family owned establishments fading away or will they find a resurgence with their unique identities and scenic locations?
Like the film, my new Wisconsin Supper Club Book will show why supper clubs are such a big part of the Badger State's food culture and the full experience of supper club dining: a brandy old fashioned sweet at the bar, relish trays at the table, huge portions of steaks, seafood and game, and the friendly, loyal customers who have been dining at their favorite places for so many years.
This will be a "coffee table" book loaded with photos and stories of approximately 50 Wisconsin supper clubs from each corner of the state to everywhere in between. Like the movie, this book will make you hungry for your favorite supper club meal.
If you've seen the movie and enjoyed it, you are going to love the book!
The book has a Midwestern publisher and it will be released in the Fall of 2012.
Your money will go towards some new photography equipment and accessories (my perfectly good Nikon N90s film camera has to stay at home, I'm going digital now). Plus I'll be adding some hard drive storage and back up storage for the thousands of photos taken on the road.
Backers choosing the autographed book option will receive their copies as soon as I get them. As noted, Supper Club DVDs (with bonus footage) will be sent out in April, otherwise they will go out with the book or other rewards in November (or earlier if depending on when the book arrives from the printer).
I will be checking in from my travels on my Supper Club Movie Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Wisconsin-Supper-Club-Movie/192517397441732
As well as posting updates via Kickstarter. Thanks for your support and who knows I might be at one of your favorite supper clubs very soon. Recommendations are welcome!
Yes, we can arrange for those to be sent before the book is released.
I don't have an exact date but hopefully by late October or early to mid-November 2012. The final photos and manuscript will be turned over to the publisher in the beginning of May and there is a 6 month turnaround to do the layout, graphics and printing.
