HEY WE'RE MAKING A MOVIE! We've actually been shooting this past year and ARE GOING INTO POST PRODUCTION --- AND WE NEED YOUR HELP! Currently, we need to raise $15,000 to cover post-production costs, so we can submit the film ASAP to Festivals. But don't feel limited to $15,000 -- we can always use more for promotion of the movie... the more funds we have, the more festivals we can submit to!

Ron and Laura Grawsill, a conservative suburban couple from Bakersfield California, decide to star in their own reality show about their activism! After seeing 24-hour cable news coverage of a national health food controversy, Ron and Laura join the movement to take their country back from the Euro Union Conspiracy! But, when they run into their son Brian with a mysterious new friend at a demonstration, the culture wars land right in their own backyard!
ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS
MEL ENGLAND has acted in Film, Television and Theatre over a lifetime across the US, and has starred in several feature films, Including LITTLE BIG TOP, opposite SID HAIG, Mr. Ghoulden in the dark comedy PERSONA AU GRATIN, and more recently, as a Minister confronted with a crisis of faith at the funeral of his father in HIGHLIGHTS, nominated for Best Drama in the Moviefone Short Film Festival. England recently signed to co-star in LOVE ANONYMOUS with Academy Award Best Actress Nominee and Golden Globe Winner Sally Kirkland.
On stage, England has appeared Off Broadway and across the US and Europe. His Off Broadway solo show SWIMMING WITH THE POLAR BEARS premiered at the Bleecker Street Theatre, as part of a 3-day Earth Day benefit for THE CLIMATE PROJECT, featuring posters of the show signed by former Vice President Al Gore. SWIMMING toured world-wide, performing in Los Angeles, and at the 2009 UN SUMMIT ON CLIMATE CHANGE in Copenhagen, and on the National Mall in Washington DC as part of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.
Other Off Broadway productions include HECUBA, MARRIAGE and THE IMAGINARY INVALID. England starred in both the New York and Los Angeles premieres of Israel Horovitz's 3 WEEKS AFTER PARADISE, a one-man play about September 11th, benefiting children of WTC victims. Another of his one-man shows, NAVAJO MEMOIRS, called "Ingenious" by Backstage, premiered in New York, and he's the recipient of the NY Fringe Festival's "Best Acting Ensemble Award" for LUCKY MAN, and "Best Play of the Year" in Denver for the Regional Premiere of A SHAYNA MAIDEL. He's been a proud part of several original New York productions, including director Chris Sanderson's Washington Square MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM, SEA MONKEYS by Tony Nominee Chad Beguelin, Harold Slazer’s HONEYSUCKLES developed for television by FOX, and KING OF CONNECTICUT with Phillip Seymour Hoffman. www.melengland.com
JANICE MARKHAM is an actor/writer/musician/activist and Artistic Director of VOX BOX ARTS COLLECTIVE, INC.
Besides her numerous performances with Vox Box, Janice’s favorite characters portrayed have included “Candice” - a disorganized schizophrenic - in the pilot MIA, the grandma, mother and granddaughter in the short film MIRIAM CORNSWEIG’S FAREWELL PERFORMANCE, which aired on the SUNDANCE CHANNEL, and Jeanie, the troubled arsonist in the play JIGSAW. Janice treasures her on-going work with producer Amy Lord which includes originating characters in the two long-running Off Broadway shows, THE BOYCHICK AFFAIR and GRANDMA SYLVIA’S FUNERAL, one of NY’s longest running Off Broadway productions.
Janice founded Vox Box with Emmy Award winning art director Keith Mitchell in 1991, and has collaborated on a variety of artistic ventures with RIF (Reading is Fundamental), Create:Fixate and numerous schools and libraries. Janice is extremely proud of the “8 Sundays” emerging artist program geared towards at-risk high school artists. This highly successful art program was co-sponsored by the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock and CAFAM (Los Angeles Craft and Folk Art Museum). Her new WORDs program (We Open Reading Doors) launched last year at the Center for the Arts and included collaborations with Vox Box Lead Artist, Golden Globe nominee and actor/activist Irene Bedard.
Ms. Markham is also an accomplished violinist, and her trio, TRIUMPH OF THE EGG, is artist-in-residence at the Los Angeles Craft and Folk Art Museum and recently performed at the the Hanukkah Family Festival at the Skirball Cultural Center in December 2011. Janice is also a founding member of the MOSTLY KOSHER band and YIDDISH THEATER ENSEMBLE which headlined the Orange County Yiddish Festival and will be playing at the Skirball Cultural Center for their 2012 summer concert series.
Janice’s writing credits include being co-writer and host of Press for Democracy, a TV newsmagazine. She has interviewed Rep. Dennis Kucinich, California Secretary of State Debra Bowen and Journalist Robert Scheer as well as hosting a documentary series. Press for Democracy airs on the satellite TV channel Free Speech TV. Janice is also a freelance writer for Disney Publishing, Cartoon Network, and Age of Learning.
Little Bookwormz, Inc., a literary apparel company formed with writer Paula Sewell, is Janice’s latest venture, and is an official sponsor for the Vox Box WORDs literacy program. IRENE BEDARD. Golden Globe Best Actress Nominee Irene Bedard was most recently seen opposite Sean Penn in Terence Malik's Academy Award Best Picture nominated feature, TREE OF LIFE. Irene has been seen in the critically acclaimed Steven Spielberg mini-series INTO THE WEST, in the film COSMIC RADIO with Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas and Michael Madsen, and in THE NEW WORLD with Colin Farrell.
Irene arrived on the West Coast after blasting the New York theater scene with her energy and talent. She has performed with the NEW YORK THEATER WORKSHOP, THE ENSEMBLE STUDIO THEATER, CIRCLE IN THE SQUARE, and the JOSEPH PAPP PUBLIC THEATER. She was nominated for a GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD for her portrayal of Mary Crow Dog in TNT'S LAKOTA WOMAN: SIEGE AT WOUNDED KNEE, and won immense critical acclaim for her work in the indie film SMOKE SIGNALS. Other film credits include GREASEWOOD FLATS and TORTILLA HEAVEN with Miguel Sandoval and George Lopez. Irene gave her talents to the voice of "POCAHONTAS" in the Disney movie, kicking off a successful voice-over career. She was also seen in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation of LOST CHILD with Mercedes Ruehl. Additionally, Irene's television credits include appearances on PROFILER, THE MARSHAL, THE OUTER LIMITS and THE AGENCY as well as the TV movie TRUE WOMEN with Angelina Jolie. Currently, Irene is continuing her work as a voice for the new SPIDERMAN animated series.
Irene is a lead artist and educator with Vox Box Arts Collective. Irene Bedard and Janice Markham's partnership began in undergraduate acting conservatory in 1988 when Irene asked Janice to create an adaptation of Zelda a play about Zelda Fitzgerald, for a solo theatrical project. Thus, a partnership was born. Irene came on board with Vox Box officially with the production of the play JUST WAIT and went on to co-direct the critically acclaimed premiere of JIGSAW. Irene and Janice will be collaborating further on the Vox Box WORDs (We Open Reading Doors) literacy program.
Besides her multi-faceted work with Vox Box, Irene is a tireless activist, advocate and mentor within the Native American community. She recently led a film forum and acting workshop at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, invited by the Native American Student Association.
GIDEON MARKHAM. Gideon's life in the entertainment industry began in Centennial Hall - a 2,500 seat theater in Tucson, Arizona. His experience there included stage lighting, rigging and sound mixing for numerous productions and companies, such as the Arizona Opera Company and Ballet Arizona. He has been turning on lights and moving them around on film and commercial sets in Los Angeles since 1994.
His television credits as a gaffer and lighting crew member include numerous shows for the production company 51 Minds, including THE SURREAL LIFE, ROCK OF LOVE and CHARM SCHOOL. His work on feature films has been quite diverse, ranging from the indie ALBINO ALLIGATOR directed by Kevin Spacey and ALREADY DEAD with Christopher Plummer, to his recent work on blockbusters IRON MAN 2, CAPTAIN AMERICA and MAN OF STEEL. Gideon is also a sought after commercial gaffer who has worked on hundreds of commercials in the United States and abroad.
For Vox Box Arts Collective, Gideon has designed and created the lights, set, and sound for JIGSAW co-directed by Janice Markham and Irene Bedard and GALLERY directed by Emmy Award winning designer Keith Mitchell. Additionally, Gideon edits the ½ hour interview program, PRESS FOR DEMOCRACY, which airs on Free Speech TV.
TONY WANDELL is a Producer with Magical Iguana Productions, and is currently in development with the feature romantic comedy, LOVE ANONYMOUS, to star Academy Award Best Actress Nominee Sally Kirkland. Tony was a co-producer of the Off Broadway solo show SWIMMING WITH THE POLAR BEARS, and the worldwide tour, including Los Angeles, Washington DC for the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, and Copenhagen for the historic UN Summit on Climate Change. He also managed publicity for Mel England during the premiere and worldwide release of the feature film LITTLE BIG TOP. As a Interior and Furniture Design expert, Tony's best known in TV land for his appearances on TV's DESIGN STAR and TMZ. He has consulted for Features and Television, including Ridley Scott’s BODY OF LIES and CBS’ THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, among many others. As founder and owner of his own store, he also designed, created, and produced original furniture from his San Francisco studio.
