MDK was Nick’s first 3D game, back when 3D games were just starting to be made, and was the first time that Nick felt able to finally build games that he had imagined from the very first time he used a computer. Creating captivating character experiences in a fantastical and unique sci fi world was finally possible, in his mind, and MDK was his first attempt to achieve that.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto was a big “next step” down that path, introducing a much more varied campaign anchored by fun and hilarious cut scenes to tell the story and set in another fantastic and colorful world. On top of that, Giants also tackled not just multiplayer, but multiplayer with wildly different characters.
First Wonder, while visually more reminiscent of Giants, is the next step in this design journey, and looks to expand the game design with additional variation and emergent play. We are building a more open game environment, where anything can happen and the unexpected is the norm. The rules of the world are defined by the characters and their reactions, creating opportunities for organically discovered, amazingly fun situations. First Wonder is the next step in the journey of evolving game design that started with MDK and aims to again introduce new ideas and experiences to the mix.
