hearO: production, design & packaging insights
You guys have given hearO the green light. Thank you! We have pressed *GO* on all aspects of this project. Kickstarter is funding hearO's total development costs: custom moulding tool; specialist cutting and engineering tools; packaging tooling; product certifications; and freight to the studio in London.
Below shows hearO's development costs in US dollars. Our factory in Shenzhen has begun making hearO's custom geometry and component tool. Our partners in Northampton, England are developing our cutting engineered di-cut tools. Atom Cutting System's are engineering hearO's custom cutting press. We have also finalised our bespoke packaging design.
We've made some final adjustments on hearO's electronic design. Two new improved specifications: we are making hearO with Bluetooth 4.1 - the latest, quickest, most efficient Bluetooth; and we are using a 500mAh rechargable battery which will increase hearO's wireless usage in a very good way (how much, to be verified in testing).
Insight into hearO's cutting process is depicted below. There are two distinct cuts in each Championship tennis ball defining hearO and its protective skin. (Note we will be using the cut bits for acoustic and art screens, we will share visuals with you.)
The Championship tennis ball are cut with German engineered blades on British designed specialist cutting beds. Each ball will be carefully positioned and cut on hearO's customised press tool.
For hearO's packaging, we reimagined the tennis ball tin. Our bespoke hearO tin aims to encourage use and reuse. The repurposed tin houses hearO and it can stand alone or house other useful items.
We secured 2016 Wimbledon Championship tennis balls for hearO's first production run.
We hope you enjoyed the men's and women's US OPEN and will end this update with Samuel Beckett's special quote tattooed on Stan *The Man* Wawrinka's arm.
