Frequently Asked Questions
First of all, Serengeti is already available, though the stock of the initial print run is getting low, so you wouldn't have to wait for the release of the revised edition.
But the new edition will be improved on, components wise, if you (and others) back it here, and, although unlikely at this stage, the production of expansions is all but guaranteed (expansions are typically not of high value at trade shows, and more difficult to convince stockists to take on).
The second aspect is a monetary incentive, however small. We decided to make sure that backers opting to get the base game and expansions at the same time save about 10-15% of the RRP.
Sure, it's possible you'll get that sort of discount from online stores later in the year, but HAL-13 is a small publisher and, unless people like you back us, it's a safe bet that availability of our games will remain confined to trade shows and brick and mortars specialist shops - big discounters can only do so on volume and currently have no interest in stocking our games.Last updated:
There are several reasons fort this.
First and foremost it is impossible for us to estimate where most of our backers will be located geographically.
This means that if we want to roll such costs into the pledges meaningfully, we'd have to assume that they are located on average in a world zone corresponding to the upper range of shipping costs, to make sure we cover our costs, making the pledges higher than necessary.
... not doing so would require a confusing system of pledges tailored for different destinations, making this project unfriendly when trying to make out what is on offer.
We also wanted to encourage people to group back the project, pledging for several copies, ensuring shipping beyond the first copy is typically half of the cost of the first one.
Incidentally, the shipping costs are already subsidised to an extend by us as publishers i.e the real cost is higher. We can do this only on the basis that there are no hidden costs for us, such as Kickstarter fees, among other things.Last updated:
Yes, the game is 100% language independent.
The revised edition of the game will ship with English, French and German rules. But we are working with professional translators to provide rules in Spanish and Italian by the time this edition hits the shelves - those will be available as PDF from our site.
Other languages are in discussion and may be provided as downloads, and if you'd like to help us with that, please get in touch, but please don't be offended if we ask you for references to ensure the quality of your work is established and will lead to solid rules for our customers.Last updated:
Yes, you can. The 'Migrator' pledge will contain all components upgrade we make to the revised edition, including the larger box.
In other words, we aim to support our loyal fans, and we will make sure that by the time you receive your pledge, you won't be worst off than someone who jumps on board from there onwards.Last updated:
Will any portion of the Kickstarter proceeds go towards a charity or a fund to assist in the preservation of African wildlife?
Unfortunately Kickstarter does not allow fundraising for charities, or any funds gathered during a campaign for that matter to go towards anything not directly linked to the project.
Of course, once all our production costs are recouped, what we do with the profit from the game is up to us, and wildlife preservation is something we feel obviously strongly about... so...Last updated:
