Have a question?
@Conrad and Jorge: Sorry for the wait on the update! There's no news to report yet but I'll make an official project update letting people know that we're still waiting on a confirmed timeline. Thanks for your patience and sorry again that I don't have news for you.
Any updates on the current situation?
I like a monthly update thanks
Hi Ethan! I appreciate you checking in on the project, and I hope to have more information to give you on updated delivery dates soon. I have been giddy to share the books since they were finished in June.
Because Be a Turtle is a collaboration with a publisher, the process has been a little different than the previous Kickstarters. (Thanks for the continued support on those, BTW)!
With the publisher, there have been more checks and balances and some additional revision processes I wasn't expecting. The wait feels agonizing sometimes, but I'm genuinely thrilled that the books will be higher quality because of the attention they're getting. (At one point they caught a typo in The HMS Bad Idea that had gone unnoticed for 3 years.)
I'll try to keep a monthly update schedule going, even if I don't have new information to pass on. I also hope to have some extras to announce to make up for the wait, but need to get confirmation first.
In the meantime, thanks for your patience!
I am happy to see the feedback from Jorge's post. I was also wondering what state this kickstarter was in, given the consistency with which I've received material on your previous projects. I am looking forward to adding this material to my collection, and I was somewhat hoping to have some of these materials for christmas gifts, given that I've individually purchased some of the components in the interim.
Keep us posted, we always like the timely explanations on delays.
Hi Jorge! Thanks for checking in, and for your ongoing patience with this project!
As mentioned in the last update, my publisher is pushing back the shipping dates, so we will not be making the December timeline that they provided during the summer. I am still waiting for them to give me a confirmed date, but it will be later than December.
I plan to design a "your gift is coming later" holiday card that backers can print off and give to someone if the books are intended as gifts.
There will also be another extra I will be announcing as part of the next update, but I'm just waiting for the publisher to confirm the revised timeline for me before I share the information. Because there have been problems with the last two deadlines provided, I want to be certain that the new deadline they provide will be met so I don't have to send backers another disappointing update.
Thanks again for your patience!
Hi there hope your wedding was nice. Do you think we are still good for the book in December?
Hey everyone! Just leaving a note here to check the latest Kickstarter update for information.
I'm running off to get married and go on a 3-week road-trip honeymoon (without wifi), but I will try to check in a couple times from the road to answer questions and provide you with updates as I receive them from the publisher.
No just checking nice to hear it coming in December thank you for the update.
Hi Jorge! Thanks for checking in! The last 2 project updates have a detailed breakdown of the new perks everyone is receiving and the new timeline! You can read the most up-to-date info here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rockpapercynic/be-a-turtle-and-other-secrets-to-a-happy-life/posts/1956755
Here's the short version of the product update:
-All softcover books are being upgraded to hardcover casewrap books
-All hardcover books are being upgraded to signed limited artist's editions with signed and numbered screen prints as inserts
-All books are getting spot UV covers to make them EXTRA shiny
-We've upgraded from 14 to 34 pages of book-exclusive content not available in my webcomics archives
And we're now adding new content pages to the HMS Bad Idea reprint so there will be bonus illustrations by:
Nick Seluk (The Awkward Yeti)
Megan McKay (Doodle for Food)
Olivia Walch (Imogen Quest)
Pigeoneer Jane (The Pigeon Gazette)
Kory Bing (Skin Deep)
However, this is going to delay the books until December, which I know is a bummer. Feel free to message me if you have any additional concerns and we can definitely work it out! :D
Hi hope all well so what happened with the book
Hey Conrad, thanks for asking about the project! The books have both 100% prepped for print for some time now, but getting the files to the printer has been held back a little bit as I work with a couple potential publishers for Be a Turtle. I've been meaning to post an update when I actually had concrete news to share, but negotiations have gone slower than expected and there's not much I can reveal until I get confirmation on what I can announce. :(
I'll make a stop-gap update tomorrow with some sample pages and an update on the timelines. The digital copies of the books will still be ready before the initial estimated ship date, but the physical books will likely be a little delayed. More on this soon!
Its been about 2 months any updates?
Thank you for update
Nice to hear thanks for up date can't wait
Hi Jorge! Thanks for checking in! :D
Yep, everything is progressing really well! The books are designed and samples have been sent to the foreword writers. We're still adding in some of the bonus pages included because of the stretch goals, but that's all on schedule so far!
Who are things going everything good
Thank you looking forward to it thank you
@Jorge: Good question! This will all be handled through the backer survey, which I'll send out a couple months in advance of shipping.
Are you using a PM and survey so you know what what book we want
My son can't wait me to
Ooh, depending on what faceplates get unlocked for the dice tower I might take you up on that! Otherwise I'll probably just stick with the book :)
@Asterism: Good question! (And thanks for backing!) Unfortunately, to be able to make the quantities work with exactly 200 limited edition hardcovers, we're pretty much locked into the quantities in the tiers that we have. However, it looks like you backed the two hardcovers tier, and I could swap out your second book for either a dice tower or an extra softcover copy of Be a Turtle and I could put your hardcover copy of "Is It Canon?" in a library or something like that. Let me know what you think!
What if we only want one hardcover - is that a thing that can happen? Specifically, I just want the turtle book!
@Shawn: I'm stoked for Calgary Expo in April! It's gonna be rad! Thanks for the support--I'm still taking it all in too!
@Linden! Yes, for sure! I've added your name to my shipping notes for patron bonuses!
(and by "admire", I mean "digest" - this is all you!)
Welp, I've held off on getting a dice tower for long enough in my life. Today is that day. Also, books and a coin that I fully intend on making use of the next time you swing by for a concert or a convention.
Whoa, need to back up and fully admire what I've just done. Keep up the good work!
You have no idea how happy I am about the turtle book. My patronus is a turtle. So excited to get my copy! (And maybe some extra goodies for being a patreon sponsor!?)
@John: I look forward to bumping your fist right in front of your wallet, just to rub it in!
Peter, you glorious so-and-so, my wallet officially hates you for what I'm going to be shelling out.
@EnzoComics You made a turtle pun on my comments page? I turtley should have seen that coming.
Peter is making a turtle book!? This calls for a...
