I'm bringing my best comics together with some never-before-seen material to create TWO awesome collections of comics that will bring equal parts joy and maniacal laughter into your life.
BE A TURTLE and Other Secrets to a Happy Life is a book about going your own pace and marching to the beat of your own drum when the rest of the world is on a big dumb parade to nowhere.
It's full of cynical and sometimes sweet comics mixed in with badass life advice from turtles. Because turtles don't worry about being judged or paying rent or getting promotions. They just do their thing.
- How will you survive the robot uprising(s)?
- How can blood magic help you make friends?
- Can the power of education let you shoot lasers?
Is It Canon? is a book featuring my best pop culture parody comics that ruin your favorite books, movies and games!
It mixes strips from both Rock, Paper, Cynic and Is It Canon?, a webcomic that I make with my friend Aaron Lenk. It will feature a foreword by Kris Wilson, one of the twisted and delightful minds behind Cyanide and Happiness.
This book asks the BIG questions, like:
- What if a spider got bitten by a radioactive human?
- How can steam catapults strengthen your relationships?
- What does it take to be a superhero but not an a**hole?
I'm so friggin' excited to share these books with you!
344 pages of hilarious comics! That's two full books, yours to share enjoy! You might recognize a few of the comics and jokes from these places that have covered my work!
Extra comics and bonus content! If you're the kind of person who reads acknowledgment pages or takes detours in games because you want to explore EVERYTHING, you're gonna love diving into these volumes!
PDF eBooks! When the robots take over the planet and all of human consciousness is uploaded to the cloudmind, you can take these with you! That's why every eBook will be accompanied by a password-protected PDF file only to be opened in the event that robots rise up.
Softcover first editions of the new books! When the Internet becomes self-aware and begins to hunt the last biological humans with killbot drones, you can read these instead of webcomics! That's why every copy of the book comes with a sealed letter only to be opened in the event of a killer robot apocalypse.
Wooden laser-cut collector coins with a code phrase you can say to me at conventions to get me to teach you my secret fist bump techniques.
Signed collector's hardcover editions. There will only be 200 copies of each, so we'll be hand-numbering each copy.
Collector's dice-rolling towers. This wooden tower is used for rolling dice in limited space on crowded board game tables, or for hurling at the heads of your enemies when you lose. You can see me demo it in this video! It collapses for easy storage and transport. Additional faceplates will be made available through stretch goals.
Your own tiny empire! I will draw your likeness or a royal emblem of your choice, and have it laser-cut onto the front face of a set of 20 wooden coins. You can choose a motto and title for the flip side. I will also sign a decree designating you the sovereign ruler of one square foot of my apartment, which I will photograph and describe to you in a prospector's report.
But what does these rewards cost? Well, you'll want to check out the...
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the reward tiers!
Peter Chiykowski is the creator of Rock, Paper, Cynic and co-creator of Is It Canon? His comic won the Aurora Award for "Best Graphic Novel" in 2014 and his viral Twitter account Dad Joke Han Solo has appeared on Entertainment Weekly, MTV News, Buzzfeed and Mashable. A few months ago he quit his job to write and draw comics full-time! When he's not making comics, he's being dragged by rescue and foster dogs on long walks in Toronto parks.
Aaron Lenk is the co-creator of Is It Canon? and the mind behind Big Simple Comics! His comic The Big World tells short feature stories in a vast and interconnected universe. His comics The Last Giant, Dave's Wurld and I Hate You have been featured on Imgur, DeviantArt and Tapastic. He's inspired by the works of Larry Marder, Doug Tennapel, Pendleton Ward, Anthony Clark, Alan Moore and Osamu Tezuka.
Risks and challenges
This is my fourth Kickstarter book project. The first three were successfully funded and delivered, and were even staff-picked by Kickstarter and once featured in their newsletter.
I work as a writer and illustrator full-time and have been making webcomics and publishing books for eight years, so I have a lot of experience with book production.
The artwork is ready and the layout is underway, so there are just a couple steps left before we send the book to the printers. Delivery will be digital and physical rewards will be delivered worldwide.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
