The “Ancients” | Functional Cockpit Displays | Improved Performance & Stability | Full Release Date | Boxed Version

Greetings Pilots,

With this update, you will notice that we made a large jump in versioning the current EVERSPACE build as Update v0.7. There are several reasons for this.

First, the full release is not far away. On May 26, we plan to release EVERSPACE v1.0, which we consider to be the full core game that we promised in our campaign here on Kickstarter. Within the next few weeks, we will be able to share more details about what will be included in v1.0, and what will be added after the v1.0 release. Of course, you will be able to play the story in all its glory, we can tell you that much.

Second, we noticed in quite a few comments that labeling the previous release as Update v0.4 led to high expectations of how much more will be added to the full game. In fact the game is pretty much feature- and content-complete already, and we’re devoting much of our time to final testing and QA. Naturally, not everything has been revealed yet, so we still have some aces up our sleeves for the full release. Therefore, Update v0.7 will be the last one before EVERSPACE hits full digital release (and even brick & mortar stores in some countries) with v1.0 on May 26, 2017.

Third, and most importantly, with the introduction of a whole new faction, functional cockpit displays for all three player ships, and the latest round of performance and stability improvements, this update is a huge step forward from the previous build as you can see for yourselves below.

The “Ancients”

The Ancients' knowledge of physics surpasses ours by far!

In this update, you will encounter the remnants of a mysterious alien race known only as “The Ancients”. Ruins built by the technologically-advanced race hold teleporters that work as shortcuts, letting you skip some locations on your journey. The ruins also contain valuable Glyphs, which function similarly to the previously introduced Sub-Routines but with far more fantastical effects, affecting overall playstyle immensely. Getting these Glyphs will not be an easy task: you must first confront the mysterious Ancients themselves.

Ancient Glyphs are very powerful but they sometimes come with surprising side effects.

Functional Cockpit Displays

Adding functional cockpit displays to all three player ships was quite a task. We had to fit the screens and gauges into the different designs of the cockpits and we had to make it look good. We also had to make sure that all relevant information can be read easily, even in the heat of the action.

In addition to extant HUD elements, you will now be able to see the component damage overview of your ship, as well as information about locked targets. With this addition also comes the option for all the purists amongst our daring pilots to turn off the HUD elements entirely in first person mode and rely solely on cockpit instrumentation.

A Missile Turret for the Colonial Gunship

Although already upgraded in previous releases, the Colonial Gunship gets yet another new and exclusive device: the Missile Turret. This mighty piece of equipment automatically fires salvos of powerful homing projectiles, with the downside of having a longer reload time between shots.

Improved Performance and Stability

Along with these massive additions, the newest update fixes occasional crashes encountered on the Xbox One in the recently-added Colonial Stations, includes backer names from the crowdfunding campaign in several game locations, and significantly enhances the game’s overall performance and visual quality.

Alright, plenty of stuff worth checking out over the weekend and in the coming days. Just keep on dying in EVERSPACE and taking care in real life,
Michael and your dedicated ROCKFISH Games Team

Looks like I picked a great time to get a new graphics card. Stoked to finally be able to play this soon!

@Michael Liebowitz, @Andrew Kephart: Glad to hear that you love the game. Curious what you think about The ANCIENTS!!!
@Isaac Earl: customizing controls is still high on our list. It’s more complicated than one might think, though. Most likely, it’ll come when we add joystick support at some point.
@Derek Smart: From space dev to space dev: Thanks! :)
@Thoemse: Hired another dev about a month ago who is purely working on VR; check out the latest discussion on Steam for more: http://steamcommunity.com/app/396750/discussions/0/152390014787329052/
@Tobias Krummen: We still got a major graphical issue under Linux; we are in contact with Epic / Nvidia and will share more details as soon as we got anything reliable to share; sorry about the not so good news. :(
      /Michael

This is excellent news! You've built a really fun game that has become my go-to for downtime and just plain ol' taking a break (insert slow-clap). Looking forward to playing 1.0 and maybe some day discovering what lay beyond level 7.

I played this a ton over last summer and can't wait to pick it up again soon. Thank you for your commitment to give us 1.0 !!!

Can I change the controls yet... I played the beta version a few times, but decided I would wait at least until I can customize the controls. Is that going to be an option for v1.0 ?

Good news guys! Keep up the great work!!

How about VR support? It was promised for release i think. It was the reason for loads of people to support this kickstarter.

Unfortunately you didn't mention the progress on the Linux version.
How is the work going with the workaround from the community?
