What makes up a RockDove product?
From the onset, we have been committed to using the very best materials for our products. We have followed this ethos throughout our manufacturing process; from the leather we use to the accessories and electronics that are integrated into the products are all of the highest quality.
In order to ensure our designs were intuitive, we sought feedback from potential end consumers via various social forums and focus groups to understand what their pain points were; what they thought was important and designed every detail accordingly.
Please view the video below to learn more about our materials and design.
Our soft briefcase features a modular section that allows you to interchange two removable utility modules based on your lifestyle requirements. You may choose between five different module designs with each offering a varied function.
Our work tote and soft briefcase both feature a laptop compartment, which fits laptops of up to 15 inches.
All our bags are designed and tested to hold weight in excess of 25 kg with all handles and stress points double stitched to avoid failure during usage.
Riri® Zippers: We only use the highest quality Riri zips in all our products.
Dust Resistant Inlay Fabric: To ensure that the interior of our products remains immaculate during use, we have used a dust resistant cotton twill material for lining.
Our tracking technology is built upon an ultra-thin flexible circuit board using a combination of materials supplied by renowned manufacturers as well as certified recycled components.
Our chips are discreetly tucked away in the leather layers of each product, thereby making then trackable using any iOS or Android smartphone.
In line with our commitment to being as environmentally friendly as possible, we designed our products such that 60% of our electronics are sourced from certified recycled components, which ensures that every RockDove product manufactured, plays a role in reducing global electronic waste.

How the technology works
User experience has been at the core of our design philosophy. We have scrutinised, tested and improved the most minute details, so that user interaction with RockDove products is as intuitive as possible.
We are a group of childhood friends, now designers and engineers, who’ve come together to create a suite of smart, trackable leather products that compliment the modern lifestyle whilst retaining the essence and elegance of an age old craft.
The seed was planted over dinner one night as three friends shared with each other their harrowing tales of airport transit mishaps. Amongst stories of misplaced passports, were stories of bags accidentally left behind in security scanners and misplaced laptops. Each story leading them to believe there had to be a solution for frequent travellers to tie a leash to their valuables so travel could be more carefree and less stressful.
Exploration into the market for personal tracking devices revealed that some good options already existed in the market but all of them lacked in one dimension or another. Gadgets were bulky or too easily removable, thus defying the purpose in case stolen. So this trio decided to take it upon themselves to deliver a solution that met the modern consumer's needs. And that is how RockDove ventured into the world of trackable, high-end leather products.
The name RockDove was inspired by good old homing pigeons. Although Rock doves were predominantly used for messaging, they are known for their extraordinary capability of finding their way back home no matter where they fly off to in the world. This is why we felt that it fit perfectly with our mission.
We are extremely excited to present our products to the press. It is only because of enthusiasts and reporters that we can rely on to amplify our message. We welcome any questions and will try our best to promptly respond. Please send all queries to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Risks and challenges
In making RockDove products, we have to deal with an extensive supply chain network, comprising of multiple vendors across industries as well as geographic locations. Although our previous professional experiences have made us adept at project management, we are still limited by external factors such as the availability of materials, lead times and force majeure. We have however identified our supply chain partners based on their experience, professionalism and skill and will work to ensure that we manage all external issues effectively and efficiently.
Working with full grain leather offers a unique challenge where each leather skin is different. With unique scuffs and marks, being the natural characteristics of this type of leather, our challenge is to source materials with consistency in their look so all our products have the same texture. Our partner tanneries are all international quality certified and have extensive quality controls in place, including visual inspection of every hide at different stage of the production process.
In addition to quality controls set up by our tannery partners, we will also set up an internal quality control mechanism where our team will inspect every piece of hardware and electronic component in order to mitigate the risk of a malfunctioning piece making it through the supply chain. This final inspection will take place in two phases once before our chips and metal hardware are being being shipped to our production team and once again with the finished product before it is dispatched to you.
While commercialising smartphone applications has become easier over time, there are still bugs and software crashes that make it past the testing and into the commercial version. Being aware of the real risks of software crashing, we will bring on-board software developers who will test and commercialise our iOS and Android apps based on SCRUM principles and provide immediate support in case of errors. We will launch the apps to our backers one month before releasing them on the app stores so any feedback on improvement can be implemented before prime time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
