Update! New Stretch Goal Added!
Now that we've hit my $5000 goal, I want to do something to thank everyone who made that happen! So, should we hit $6000, everyone who has pledged at least $50 will now get an additional print featuring my painting of every WWWF/WWF/WWE Champion! My gift to you!
Update! The Foreward for the Art Book's Author!
I'm very honored and pleased to announce that the introduction for my art book will be penned by the five-time NWA World Champion 'Scrap Iron' Adam Pearce! Adam is one of the most respected names in independent wrestling and is the very definition of a champion. The fact that he destroyed one of my paintings over another wrestler's head is beside the point.
Update! New date added!
I'll be appearing March 22nd at Challengers Comics in Chicago! More details to come on what sort of cool things we'll be getting up to there!
Update! $25 and $50 Level Gifts Upgraded!
I've added a download of a digital version of the art book to both the $25 and $50 pledge levels! Bam!
The Most Talked-About Art in Wrestling is Going on the Road!
My name is Rob Schamberger, and I'm in the process of painting every one of professional wrestling's world champions. The collection will total nearly 230 paintings when it's done! Just like with a wrestling match, my paintings work better when they're viewed in person. I also like to talk in person with people about the paintings. To do that, I'm taking them on the road for the Art of Rob Schamberger American Tour 2013!
What Are the Stops for the Tour?
So far I have these stops planned out:
- March 22 I'll be exhibiting at Challengers Comics in Chicago, IL!
- March 23 I'll be attending the Heroes & Legends show in Fort Wayne, IN, where I'll be debuting my portraits from the Champions Collection of Bret Hart and Tatanka, who are both scheduled to be there!
- April 5-7 I'll be set up at WrestleCon in Secaucus, NJ for Wrestlemania week! I'll be debuting my Champions Collection paintings of Lex Luger, Tommy Dreamer, the Iron Sheik and Bruno Sammartino, all of whom are scheduled to be in attendance!
- April 15-17 I'll be set up at the Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion in Las Vegas, NV where I'll be debuting my portrait from the Champions Collection of the CAC's Iron Mike Mazurski Honoree Ivan Koloff! Plus a special portrait of the CAC's Lou Thesz Lifetime Achievement Honoree Percy Pringle/ Paul Bearer!
- May 4 I'll be returning to my home base at Metro Pro Wrestling in Kansas City, KS where I'll be debuting my portraits from the Champions Collection of Missourians Randy Orton and Kane!
Ideally more dates will be added between these appearances! I'll also be making other appearances during the year, but those aren't covered by this project.
Who Are You to Take on a Project Like This and Why Would I Support You?
I'm a serious painter who takes his work seriously and makes serious art. Not so seriously? I'm a fan just like you. I think these guys are the coolest, and I love the stories around them. I'm not an art world insider, I'm a common guy from the Kansas City suburbs who wants to do something special. I'm Stone Cold Steve Austin going against the Corporation. I'm Dusty Rhodes, a common man of common origins. I'm Harley Race, a man who found what he was good at and used it to entertain the world. I'm just like you: I'm someone with a dream and the ambition and skills to make it come true. But like every wrestler I need you, my audience, to make it all real.
Last year I successfully funded a project here on Kickstarter to get this whole thing going, which helped me get the supplies I needed and a studio to work in. The tremendous support I received eventually led this to be my full-time job. Like I said above, I'm very serious about this. My work has been featured on WWE's website and has been tweeted about by the likes of Steve Austin, CM Punk, Jim Ross, Dolph Ziggler, JBL, Gerry Brisco, David Arquette (really!), Goldberg, and many others. Heck, Seth Rollins even uses my painting of him as his Twitter profile picture!
I don't know how to fully define it, but something special is happening with the convergence of my work and the wrestling business. I'd absolutely love to let you be a part of this wild ride, if you choose to support me.
Well if You're Doing so Well With Them Online, Why Take Them on the Road?
I hear the same thing every time I show my work, "Wow, photos of these just don't do them justice." Simply put, seeing these paintings together in person is the only way to truly experience them. Even better is when you get to see them next to the legends who inspired them. Also? Wrestling is always better in person, even when it's paintings!
Risks and challenges
My biggest challenge with this project will obviously be the road time. I'm based out of Kansas City, so I'll be driving to Indiana, New Jersey, and Las Vegas in my truck that I've named Road Warrior Hawk. Because of the size and weight of these paintings and their display, shipping them would be less than ideal and not cost-effective. So on the road I go! Balancing that with doing work will be a surmountable challenge, though.
As far as fulfilling the pledge gifts, this ain't my first rodeo. I learned a lot from the last Kickstarter project I did, and that's why there's caps on some of the pledge levels. I managed to mostly hit my fulfillment goals last time around, and everything I learned from that will make that a much smoother process this go-around!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
