About

WHERE THERE IS SEA, THERE ARE PIRATES...

Savage Seas takes place in the dark fantasy world of Savage Planet, which was introduced in Savage Planet: Fate of Fantos.

Savage Seas is a team-based skirmish game where two teams program their crews' orders and sail their ships into battle against each other.

Each player on a team leads one (or more) specific crew(s) on their ships. The crews are the same on both ships, but each crew has a different job:

Working together as a team to program your ship’s orders is key because the last ship standing is the winner!

During each round, your team will use "Order" cards to program your ship and crews to carry out movements, attacks, and other seafaring duties.

Using the Active Orders in your crews’ hands, you will work as a team to program a strategy for your ship at the beginning of each round.

The Captain of your ship then executes that strategy by placing up to one Order from each crew face down onto one of the four positions on the ship’s board.

Your ship’s Orders are then revealed and resolved one at a time, in sequence from left to right, starting with position 1 and finishing with position 4.

However, the other team’s ship will be revealing and resolving their Orders at the same time, so you will need to outwit and outmaneuver your enemy!

To claim victory, your team’s ship must sink the enemy’s ship by igniting all 4 of its board positions with fires...

...or by filling any one of its crews’ hands with 4 wounds.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Rule Book and Master Battle Guide ARE A WORKS IN PROGRESS. They will continue to be tweaked up until files are sent to the printer after the Kickstarter ends, especially to clarify any questions that arise during the campaign, so please let us know if you have any comments or grammatical edits!

Take a closer look at all of the different crew's Orders cards and see how they can be strung together.

This Savage Seas play-through features a 3 vs 3 player game with one player from each ship playing as two crews. The game was played using a prototype copy, which may change slightly in the production process.

  • It's a Social Skirmish Game: The game objective of destroying the enemy ship is similar to most war games, but the way each crew uses a single, simple card in conjunction with the other crews' cards to program their ships is similar to party games like Cards Against Humanity and Joking Hazard.
  • Party Game Atmosphere: With each player having a specific role to perform on their ship, with limited options in a short amount of time, it creates frantic rounds of collaboration that are similar to social games like Code Names and Catch Phrase.
  • Easy to pick up and teach: With the jobs on the ship being divided up among players, it makes for teaching and learning the game fairly simple. To get a new player started, they only need to be taught what their one job is and how they do it with their crew orders.
  • Up to 8 players: With 4 different crews to play as on each ship, it provides plenty of opportunity for large groups to play together with less chance for players being left out.
  • For Captains without Crews: For those not interested in working as a team, the game can be played 1 on 1. Each Captain would then be in charge of all four of their ship's crews.
  • Quick Play Mode: If players are short on time, there is a simple timing mechanic that may be incorporated into the game to ensure each round stays short and games finish in about twenty minutes. Warning: Playing the game this way may cause anxiety, panic, and shouting! Player discretion is advised.

As an added bonus to all of our previous backers and those new to the Savage Planet world, we are also including 6 new Legacy cards for use in Savage Planet: Fate of Fantos card game!

*These new Fate of Fantos cards are limited and will only be available during this Kickstarter or directly from us at conventions or through our web site while supplies created for this Kickstarter last. As a Kickstarter Exclusive, they will be offered FREE to all backers who pledge for the full Savage Seas game. The cards are for use only in the Savage Planet: Fate of Fantos game.

**EVERY COPY OF SAVAGE SEAS WILL INCLUDE ALL UNLOCKED STRETCH GOALS**

**If you are interested in receiving 4 or more copies of Savage Seas, please make a pledge at the $2 "Crew Orders" level, and we will contact you directly to discuss options for your needs, including retail and group bundles.**

SCROLL DOWN TO THE "SHIPPING" SECTION FOR ALL THE DETAILS ABOUT SHIPPING!

The following items can be "added on" to your pledge level. To do this, simply increase your pledge by the amount indicated for each "add on" item that you would like. After the campaign has successfully funded, your entire pledge amount will show in the pledge manager. You'll be able to log-in to the pledge manager website, review the total dollar amount you pledged during the campaign, and select the specific pledge level and any add-ons that you want to receive. We will also bill for shipping through the pledge manager when the items are ready for fulfillment. (See the shipping section at the bottom of the campaign for more details; add-ons may increase the total shipping charge, which will be calculated by weight/dimension.) If you have questions, please drop us a message here on Kickstarter!

*IMPORTANT NOTE:

The Fate of Fantos Game and the Fate of Fantos Mat must be shipped FROM WITHIN THE UNITED STATES, as the remaining stock of these items is located in our US warehouse only. Please also note that this may incur customs fees such as taxes or duties upon delivery to any location outside the US, depending on your country’s laws. Check with your local postal office to verify these costs prior to adding them on.

Additionally, since these two items are in-stock, we will be able to ship them as soon as the campaign successfully funds. However, this will incur extra shipping costs, as your reward will be split into two shipments. For example, the cost to ship one Fate of Fantos game within the US is approximately $10, and it is approximately $24 to ship it outside the US. Shipping will be charged in the pledge manager, after the campaign successfully funds.

Savage Planet: Fates of Fantos is a tableau building card game with competitive and co-operative elements for 3-6 players. Games last approximately 60-90 minutes. Recommended for ages 13 and up.

PLAY AS A CITADEL

Each player takes on the role of a unique Citadel (city-state) of Fantos. To protect and enrich themselves and win favor from Zodraz, the Citadels must hire managers (called Legacies) from the six races of Fantos, using Iridium shards from their Citadel's stockpile.

UNIQUE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Once hired, a Legacy can be tasked to Harvest more Shards, go to War with a neighboring Citadel, or be nominated a Tribute of Fantos. Or, the Legacy may use its special ability to the detriment (or benefit!) of others. A Legacy may also play Labor cards from the player's hand using its own shard currency. The Labor cards can either help the player's Citadel or Legacy, or target others.

TRIALS OF ZODRAZ

Every time a Citadel chooses to Harvest from the planet's Iridium Trove, it contributes further to the environmental pollution of Fantos. Zodraz's punishment for this is forcing the Harvesting Citadel to draw new cards from the Trials Deck depending on the result of the Harvest. Life on Fantos becomes increasingly difficult as new challenges rain down from the stars and force dissent and diplomacy between the Citadels.

ZODRAZ APPROACHES

Resolve the trials together as a planet, or watch as rival Citadels struggle to survive (but beware of retaliation!). Plan wisely, and make every turn matter, because Zodraz himself is lurking among the Trials. When the Cosmic Warden is drawn, judgment is passed (scores are tallied), and the game is over. The most worthy among the Citadels (the one that has managed its resources the best) becomes the new Ward of Fantos.

Based on prior experience and extensive research, we have made the decision to charge backers actual shipping cost AFTER the successful completion of this Kickstarter campaign. The shipping fees will be collected via a pledge manager prior to fulfillment. We will freight the rewards to a network of international fulfillment partners at our cost and charge you the actual shipping cost from within those regions. We believe that this is the fairest approach, to both you the backers and to us the publisher.

Below is a chart of shipping estimates (subject to change based on your location and final shipping weight/dimensions; see below for full details):

Please keep in mind these are estimates, and costs may vary slightly based on your specific country and address. Weight changes and any optional add-ons you choose in the pledge manager may also affect actual shipping charges. We have made every effort to estimate the AVERAGE shipping prices to these regions based on what we believe they will be in October of 2019, using past yearly price increases as a guide. (Additionally, if you live in the EU, please remember to factor in VAT, see below.)

Estimates have been calculated based on the lowest price shipping option available to us in each region. If you choose a different shipping method during the pledge manager, it will increase the cost. We are offering "customs friendly" shipping for: US, EU, Canada, Australia/NZ, and Asia, as we will be importing to fulfillment companies within those regions.

US: These are estimates for tracked shipments through USPS Priority Mail (The Game), or First Class (Sea Dog Pack).

EU (Main): These are estimates for untracked shipments through Royal Mail. The option for tracked shipments may be made available in the pledge manager, but it will increase the cost. EU (Main) countries: United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden. VAT WILL BE CHARGED SEPARATELY IN THE PLEDGE MANAGER. VAT is due on the total of the pledge value, plus the shipping cost charged. The EU is cracking down on countries importing into the EU, so we can no longer get around paying it on the total amount charged. Many EU fulfillment companies are no longer agreeing to work with Kickstarter campaigns that do not charge VAT on the full amount, as they assume the tax liability once the goods are imported.

CANADA: These are estimates for tracked shipments through Canada Post. No additional duty will be due, as we will be fulfilling from a partner within Canada.

Norway & Switzerland: These are estimates for untracked shipments through Royal Mail. The option for tracked shipments may be made available in the pledge manager, but it will increase the cost. Rewards will be fulfilled from a partner within the EU. You may be required to pay additional duties or taxes upon receipt of the shipment, depending on your country’s laws. Please check with your local postal office to verify these costs.

Australia & New Zealand: These are estimates for tracked shipments through Australia Post. No additional taxes or duty will be due, as we will be fulfilling from a partner within Australia.

Asia: These are estimates for tracked shipments sent from China. We will be fulfilling from a partner within China, however additional taxes or duty may still be due upon receipt of the shipment, depending on your country’s laws. Please check with your local postal office to verify these costs.

EU (Other): These are estimates for untracked shipments through Royal Mail. The option for tracked shipments may be made available in the pledge manager, but it will increase the cost. EU (Other) countries: Albania, Andora, Belarus, Bosnia, Canary Islands, Cyprus, Gibralta, Kosovo, Macedonia, Maldova, Malta, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine. No additional duty will be due, as we will be fulfilling from a partner within the EU.

Rest of World: This is an estimate for either tracked or signature required shipments through the United Kingdom’s Royal Mail service to all RoW locations (tracked or signature required, depending on the country). PLEASE NOTE: Rest of World shipping is not customs friendly. Additional taxes or duty may still be due upon receipt of the shipment, depending on your country’s laws. Please check with your local postal office to verify these costs.

*FINAL SHIPPING NOTE: If you are located in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan or Afghanistan, we will not ship to a residential address. However, we will ship to a business address located in those countries. Please include the business name when filling out shipping info in the pledge manager.

Why should you back Savage Seas on Kickstarter? The most important reason is that projects like this may never see the light of day without Kickstarter backers like you! As cheesy as it sounds, you make dreams come true. (Thank you, on behalf of all creators.) Plus, we offer a discount off of MSRP during our campaigns, which does not extend to website sales after the campaign has ended. Since we are a very small, indie publisher, our production runs are limited, and this is the best way to ensure that you get a copy, as worldwide distribution is not guaranteed. Additionally, we do not normally keep stock stored with our overseas fulfillment partners after backer fulfillment is complete, so this is the best way to save on shipping and duties / taxes if you do not live in the United States!

Robot Monster Games (formerly Imp House) is an indie board game company built around two guys who grew up on comics, cartoons, and cereal in the 80s. Loving all things gaming, but never completely satisfied with those from their childhood, they've set out on a quest of fusing retro story flavors of the past with modern gaming mechanics of the present to create their own Oasis on the tabletop. Described as being somewhat dark, often wistful, and always captivating, they see it as a giant bowl of Saturday morning awesome!

There is also a Savage Planet group on Facebook, where we discuss all things Fantos: Join the Group!

Risks and challenges

Savage Planet: Savage Seas has been extensively play tested, and we will continue running sessions until it is sent to print. The artwork is ready, however the rulebook may be updated slightly as we receive helpful feedback. If the campaign is successful, we will consult with our proofreaders and editor about any changes that may have occurred during the campaign, and then we'll send Savage Seas to the printer.

Our two most recent games, Fate of Fantos and Mad Love, published under the name Imp House, are currently fulfilling around the world.

While one never plans to experience any significant delays, we know from experience that unplanned hiccups sometimes occur. We can promise we will keep you all updated throughout the process.
