About this project
In this fun adventure comic, we follow a unit of vampire hunters who operate legendary Coffin Crushers. These War-Mechas have but one mission: To crack open the vampires vaults and tip the scales of this eternal war!
Doing what no human has done in hundreds of years, five heroes will cross into enemy territory and face the full might of the vampire horde. Adventure, discovery, comradery–all comes to bear as these five warriors learn what’s really hidden deep within a vampire kingdom.
Our goal was to print and produce the first issue of the comic 'Coffin Crushers' (part one of 6-part mini-series). Containing twenty-two pages of full-color comic glory, and if we hit our stretch goals, we are going to increase the size of the book with additional content (character biographies, illustrations, Crusher schematics, a city map & more!).
The basic comic is funded, and these are the stretch goals that were unlocked:
The timer has ended & this Kickstarter is now officially a success! Thanks to your enthusiasm we will be able to make this comic into a reality. This means the world to us & we are very grateful for all your support! Thank you all!

We will keep in touch!
In a time long forgotten, a great vampire arose from the grave and gave birth to an insatiable race of bloodsuckers on Earth. Hungry for blood, these offspring terrorized the human race for many years. But humans were not so quick to fall to these terrifying demons. Humans built formidable castles-clusters packed with spotlights & automated stake-cannons atop the walls to fight back against their foes.
The castle walls’ defenses were good at keeping vampires out of their cities, but as the years passed, humans developed an even greater defense against the physically superior vampire hordes. Coffin Crushers, ultimate mecha-warriors, capable of matching the great strength and speed of their counterparts, were raised and perfected. Since that time, Coffin Crushers have maintained the balance between the humans and the great bloodsucking threat.
Now, in 300 A.V., humans and vampires are locked in a generation’s old stalemate. When a precious resource grows scarce with the castle walls, a brave band of Coffin Crusher pilots are tasked with tearing into vampire-held territory to save the human race. What they will encounter will be unlike anything a human has seen since the early days of the vampire threat.
The Main Characters
The Vampire Lords
From the dark, the vampire lords continue to plan their raids in order get their hands on human blood – a commodity more precious to them then gold.
As they are unable to control natural resources, hindered by their deadly sun allergy; they depend on recycling whatever the humans leave behind.
From their scrap they built formidable constructions & machines, most of which can only be operated by using their super-human strength & senses. But their biggest achievement are their Coffins; enormous Vault-like bunkers, where no human has entered before.
If you like the concept & consider supporting us, that would be great! In return we gladly offer something nice! Of course, the main reward is the physical printed comic, but on top of that we offer various types of original art, ranging from a small production sketch to an illustration of your choice!

What will we create & deliver?
We already have a 9-page 'pilot' story, which is the first part of issue 1. If we meet our funding goal we will produce the remaining pages, and print a comic having 22 story-pages, plus a cover and interior pages. The comic will be roughly A4 format and contain English text. This issue can be read by all ages, but is aimed at a 16+ audience. And if we do meet our stretch goals, we will add more content to that as described in the stretch-goal paragraph. Here is a preview of the comic itself, to give you an impression of what to expect ;)
And here you see how the pages were created; only the coloring is done digital, the rest is done by hand. These pages are A3 size (29,7 x42cm /11,7 x16,6 inches).
All art & story elements on this page is still 'work in progress' the final look and details of the project might slightly change -and yes, we will add text balloons to the pages too!

Who are we?
'I'm Robin Keijzer, an artist from the Netherlands and I'm very passionate about creating fantasy worlds. It all started one day when I hosted my first Dungeons & Dragons campaign; and eventually it became my job!
After working as an art director at a game studio, I now make games & comics as a freelance artist. As a hobby, I hosts thematic model-drawing sessions in support of the dutch artist community – and I still role-play every week with my girlfriend & our best friends!'
Among other projects, Robin was the co-creator of “Fairytale Fights” (PS3/Xbox360) and ''Gang Up!'' (card game). And is now working on “Coffin Crushers” together with Brian.
'I’m Brian Spinney, a technical illustrator by day, but an impassioned writer by night! Comic book writing allows me to plan visually and work with a great artist like Robin to create something beautiful and engaging. Each panel in a comic does so much work to do to tell a story and I love the challenge of putting all the pieces together.
The coolest part of this project is that I get to reach across the Atlantic Ocean and work with Robin in the Netherlands. Visual storytelling is a language we all speak and there is no greater proof of that than the story we present to you now. We love this story and we know you will, too!'
Brian earned a B.A. in English and a B.F.A. in Creative Writing from UNC Wilmington in 2007. He lives in New Hampshire with his wife and two boys.
Why the kickstarter?
We choose kickstarter, because we love the early interaction with backers & supporters. Because for us, that way the project really comes to life!
The concept of Coffin Crushers is already around for a few years. During that time did a lot of pre-production design & have made the first 9 pages as a proof of concept. But it took quite a while -and now we would love to to finish the first comic! And with some funding, we will be able to do that :)
During our previous successful Kickstarter ('Gang Up!' the cardgame) we also got a lot of fan-support, great tips and even design help from backers. And because of all that help, it had really become a great game.
So we would also love to hear your thoughts on Coffin Crushers! We also launched a fan art contest (just for fun!); and you're most welcome to join & show us your take on the concept -read more about the contest here.
Here is a general impression of what cost we are trying to cover.
Pre-Production: Building a world
We really spend some thought on the world-design of Coffin Crushers, to make it unique & fun!
Here you see a few designs examples. If you like to read more about this, then have a look at the (future) updates where we explain more about our design choices.
The image below is a 'fake' comic cover that I made a few years back. This was the first time that the whole concept of Coffin Crushers came together. After that, came all the design work you so above...and much more!
Have You Seen The Fan Art?
Many artists made a fan art-illsutarion during this Kickstarter. Have a look at all that is made here; one of these illustrations will also be included in the first print of Issue 1!
Well, thanks for having a look at this Kickstarter! We hope you enjoyed what you have seen :)

Risks and challenges
Well, nothing is without risk – but we will do our very best to create and deliver what we promised!
Content wise: We are not dependent on hired help & have already produced half a comic; the remaining pages should hold no surprises for us.
Printing: We have printed similar products before (comics, artbooks & a card-game), so we have a good idea of the technical requirements involved. Comics are also a pretty standard product, which can be produced by many print shops.
Kickstarter & Delivery; Robin ran a very successful kickstarter before ('Gang Up! A criminally fun card-game'); which was based on careful thought and good planning. We take the same approach here, and do our best to get everything delivered on time.
Please read the FAQ for some more information regarding this Kickstarter & it's risks.
