About this project
Like wizards and conflicted homeless people? This is the story for you. Think that it would be totally gnarly to have a crazy wizard robe? Or have you ever wanted to have your astrological chart done? Check out my awesome Backer Rewards on the right.
The first draft of The Traveler (read a sample here), the first novel in a series (and the first novel I have written!), is finished. I'm proofing it and going through the rewriting stage, but I don't have the time to devote to it and even less energy. Also, I'd like to ensure that the final draft is as high a quality as I can get it so that I can sell it and live happily ever after as a fancy pants novelist... or at least pay for my ramen with the fruits of my labor of love. And this is the first major step.
It's a story about hobos, magic, and dimensional travel. There are goblins and elves, too! As readers, your goal is to go where my book takes you. As Backers, you live with the responsibility of sharing this magic with others. As an author, my duty is to entertain you and, perhaps, change your life in some small way in the process.
One of the special Backer Rewards that I am offering is for my fiance, Sayaka Tokimoto (currently a designer for NYC collection brand United Bamboo) to make you a unique, cool-as-can-be WIZARD ROBE in your choice of an Asian or Fantasy style. This won't be a cheap-o Halloween costume. It will be a magical garment made of fine fabrics and a professional cut, tailored to your size!
Special thanks to the artist, my friend Pier Fichfeux, for letting me use his painting in the video. I love his work and I hope his paintings will illustrate the covers to the series someday.
Keep in mind that the "backer rewards" are essentially pre-sales and "goods" offered at a HUGE discount. A digital copy of a novel usually runs more than a dollar; I could offer astrological charts at 100+ bucks a pop; and Sayaka could easily charge more than a thousand dollars for a hand-tailored, high-quality wizard robe. Kickstarter's model is not a handout. It is a pre-sale with an explanation. Mine is that I want to devote three months to the labor involved and pay a decent copyeditor.
Yes. It is the beard I was born with.
It would be more useful to you if it were set on Earth, but I can set it in an alien cosmology, if you prefer.
At his website: http://www.pier-f.biz/main/main.html. I'm fortunate to have such a talented man to call my friend.
If you've got the money, honey, I've got the time. That is the Hank Williams way of saying "Why not?"
No. That robe is a costume a friend made for me a decade or so ago. I don't have a photo of it before it was made into an art installation, but she made an Asian one as part of a collaboration with NYC art collective Confetti System http://www.confettisystem.com.
So I can finish the book by devoting three months to the labor involved and paying a decent copyeditor.
Support this project by backing it and getting an advance copy of my first novel. Put your money where your mouth is, otherwise, it's all talk.
