A father, with Parkinson's, & son went to all 30 MLB parks in 2004. They're going again & raising money for the follow-up documentary.

In 2004, my dad, who has Parkinson's Disease, and I went on a journey of a lifetime: road-tripping 20,000 miles to all 30 MLB parks in just two months. Our lives have never been the same. The award-winning documentary from that adventure screened to enthusiastic crowds that waited in lines afterward to meet my father and shake his hand. You can see that documentary online at the link provided below.

In 2013, my father still has PD. He fights the good fight and is, by most accounts, ahead of the curve. But the effects of the disease are very noticeable and painful. I've gone on to make three more health-themed documentaries, earn a Master's Degree and most importantly, have a beautiful family of my own.

My son, Giuseppe, is four and already loves going to baseball games. He threw out the first pitch at the Las Vegas AAA affiliate for his 3rd birthday! My daughter, Francesca (2), went to her first Major League game in 2012 and made it through the seventh inning stretch - and, yes, she was awake and even cheering!

The reason to take this trip (again) and make this film (anew) is threefold:

A) To show, as a series of case studies, the progression of PD in my dad and other Parkinsonians we interviewed, ten years later. Additionally, we will explore the latest research and treatment in Parkinson's Disease and share information about how close we are (or aren't) to a cure for Parkinson's and many other neurological-based diseases. Please note: this is an artistic, research-based endeavor, not a fundraiser for any agency, fund or charity.

B) To explore changes in America ten years later through our lens and Americans relationship to the game of baseball. Is it still America's past-time? How have the different parks changed (or not changed) their cities? The Red Sox broke the curse the year we came through in 2004 -- might the Cubs do so in 2014?

C) To show a new generation, starting with Giuseppe and Francesca, the importance of family, hope, road-tripping across this beautiful country and baseball. As we did in the original documentary, we will be interviewing fans of all ages and from all walks of life across the country.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

By reaching our goal of $25,000, I can dedicate myself full-time to this project to ensure we hit the road in the summer of 2014. I will work to raise in-kind donations that keep our production cash costs down. In 2004, we had significant involvement from such companies as Whole Foods, Costco and Domino's to name a few.

The original trip was extremely minimal - consisting of my dad and me in his Ford Explorer for the bulk of the trip. This time, we are planning to bring the whole clan (three generations) and my film partner to capture the trip with greater detail and depth. We have far greater camera capabilities and quality to significantly raise the production value. We have also proved the concept with the first film and will, therefore, be able to use it comparatively in this project as well as a tool to open new doors. I have significantly improved my craft as a filmmaker as well as my education and research ability in the past ten years. All of those elements will be on display in the new film. As my film history demonstrates, when I say I'm going to complete something, I do it. This project will be completed.

We will also be in pursuit of several A-list talents to interview and, hopefully, even meet up with at (or near) a few of the games we go to. We had a few near misses in 2004. Those connections remain and will be called upon again this year. We did get baseball journalists Joe Buck and Peter Gammons as well as Clint Hurdle (manager of the Rockies) and a few MLB players in 2004. With a known, award-winning documentary under our belt, we feel good about our chances to land a few more interviews this go-round.

The only intangible we can't control is my dad's health. At this moment, he and my mom are 100 percent committed to make this trip. We have to go now. The disease is progressing and my dad's ability to make this trip is lessening -- but for now, he is excited, hopeful and charming as ever.

Again, if you haven't seen the original documentary, I highly encourage you to do so to meet this beautiful, funny, charming man I'm lucky enough to call Dad. Link to original documentary, Boys of Summer: http://www.bosmovie.com.
