We have been working day a night to get a playable beta to you all by January. Speaking of day and night...

I was tweaking the day/night settings today and thought I would share what I was working on as well as show off an environment that is outside city limits. It is still a work in progress, but I would imagine that the final game will be close to this.

I want night to really be a hindrance to the players' sight and give the player those "Holy %#@!" moments when something jumps out at you. If you are a little Achluophobic don't worry! There will be flashlights, torches, and various other tools to aid you in seeing in the dark.

I know you guys want more updates and would like to see more of the progress of the game, but just know that if you arent hearing from us it is because we are so engulfed into the development process. Our top priority and main goal is to have a playable alpha to all the backers in January and we are doing our best to make that happen.

Thanks guys!

Lunar/Weather effects on lighting would be a really cool longer-term goal for the game. The variable settings for brighter nights and other options is a cool idea, too.

I can't see shit! It's totally black. I had to adjust my laptop screen just to make out the guy in the middle!

I second Daves suggestion with respect to weather and the phase of the moon affecting game play. Would be wicked if a long game had seasons as well. Nothing says survival more than surviving through the winter with zombies.

So will us backers who got tiers with beta access get the alpha in December and the game will releases to everyone in January as a beta?

I'll second the suggestion of nighttime light level being affected by the phase of the moon, perhaps also weather as well. (The full moon isn't so bright if it's overcast.)

I'll also add a request for a "nighttime darkness" setting that's independent of the overall brightness setting. Some players may prefer very dim days with not-all-that dark nights, for a more consistent lighting level throughout, extremely bright days with extremely dark nights, or any of countless other combinations. There are also several other aspects of the ambient nighttime lighting which could be made configurable, as the numerous "night" mods for Oblivion/Skyrim demonstrate.

Yeah, on my monitor the thumbnail is basically a black rectangle. I will not be able to play the game if it's that dark in release.

"Beta" is a typo. Alpha is going out to Kickstarter backers. The game will be released as a beta

Have you got any recommended specs yet? Or have I just missed them?

You mentioned beta at the start of the post and alpha by the end, so which will it be???

Looks amazing! I can't wait to see it in action!

This game is looking better and better and can't wait to get my hands on it with 3 friends!

Thanks for the update! Would be cool to see what it looks like when the guy has a light source at night (flashlight, torch, lantern etc.)

Similar to what BruceP said, i think it would be pretty cool to have the darkess vary by a simulated moon cycle. its relatively bright at night with a full moon compared to the darkness of a new moon!

@Robert - For sure, brightness will be set up that exact way

    15. Robert Moore

I'd say just be sure to include a slider for brightness with one of those "Set slider to where you can barely see this image" things, as everyone will be on different monitors and such, which could easily make that too dark to see /anything/ for some players.

Awesome work! :DDD Really excited to see this!

    17. BruceP - Chameleon Prime

Whoa, that's dark. It would be nice to see what it's like at night with different light sources...

Thanks guys, really appreciate the update, keep up the good work, looks great. And don't worry about the people screaming at you for more updates or more info, a good gamer knows to wait for a good product.
