Once upon a time, there was a group of friends formed through the simple bond of sharing the living space of a college freshman residence hall. That group of friends eventually decided to make an app together:
Why did we start creating this app, you ask?
We got to thinking about how the people you meet in your life turn from strangers into friends. Something we feel important to that process is interacting one-on-one. Generally, people have a surprising amount in common with each other and likely aren’t friends because they haven’t crossed paths. The goal of Rivet is to foster connections with the people around you.
Wait, wait, wait, isn’t that what every social media app does?!
Not exactly. Most social apps link you with friends you’ve already made, or feel like a forum where the whole community is engaging all at once. We want to provide a new form of social media for people to interact on that is based simply on one-on-one conversations.
Rivet pairs you with someone in your area and puts you into an anonymous one-on-one conversation with them. They’re from your area, so you’re likely to relate to them in some way through shared experiences. Rivet provides the outlet for your paths to cross.
Use your conversation to share experiences, tell jokes, share your opinion, talk about problems, or entertain. When your conversation is over, it is posted to a feed for others to see. However you choose to interact, your involvement on Rivet will help to bring your community closer together.
- Completely anonymous: No profile, no login
- One-on-one messaging
- Location based: You'll be talking to someone nearby
- Newsfeed: Everyone's conversations are shared
How you can help
We are creating this Kickstarter to get our advertising off the ground. Your donations will be put towards swag, posters, and other forms of marketing. A good product means nothing if people don't know it's out there.
So please, help support us by donating any amount you like. Even if you decide not to contribute, you can still help us out immensely by sharing this with your friends. Your contributions will help us advertise and spread to your community so you can jump in with Rivet.
And here's a bonus for reading this far: Enjoy!
Risks and challenges
Quickly getting our name and product out to college campuses:
Since our app is location based, it is important to build a strong user base at each campus to ensure an enjoyable experience.
Building this user base through marketing will be one of our biggest challenges and will involve a lot of tabling, putting up flyers, giveaways, and traveling to many college campuses.
Another challenge will be cultivating a healthy community of users and content. We want people to have fun while using the app and feel comfortable talking to people.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
