Hello Friends & Family,
Thank you so much for checking out my Kickstarter page. My name is Rissi Palmer and music is my passion. I can hardly believe that it’s been SEVEN years since my self-titled debut album was released and 14 years since I began pursuing a career in music. What a crazy and wonderful ride it’s been! I’ve had some once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and challenging struggles that have shaped the artist and woman I am today. I've had three singles from my debut album Rissi Palmer on the Billboard Country Charts ("Country Girl", "Hold On to Me", and "No Air"), recorded music for and was the featured "Song of the Day" for Starbucks, penned the song "Faith," which appeared in the 2004 Lee Daniels/Miramax film "The Woodsman", was featured in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Vibe, People, and Country Weekly, and sung at venues as various as the White House to the CBS Morning show. I even fulfilled a lifelong dream and performed several times at the Mother Church of Country Music, the Grand Ole Opry! I also married the love of my life, gave birth to a most amazing little human being, and embarked on one of the scariest and most rewarding adventures of my life: becoming an independent artist. Under my company with my husband, Baldilocks LLC, I released a children’s album in 2013, Best Day Ever.
Today marks the beginning of my next chapter, a two EP project called The Back Porch Sessions. This stripped down musical photo album finds me going back to basics, reflecting on my past, relishing my present, and looking forward to the future. I am revisiting times spent listening to my mom’s Patsy Cline and Motown records on Saturday mornings, taking quarters for singing on the front porch of my great-grandmother’s house in Summerville, GA, the highs and lows of my experiences in the music business, and becoming a wife, mother, and grown woman. Country, Americana, and Soul…it’s all here. Two of the songs have already been previewed on my current acoustic tour and on my YouTube channel, “Shine”
and “Soul Message”
However, NONE of this can happen without you!!!
How you can help:
For the next 40 days, starting today, I humbly ask you, my family and friends, if you would become the missing piece to this puzzle and please contribute to the $16,000 that is ESSENTIAL to making this dream come true. As I mentioned before, I am doing this without the backing of a major label and your contributions will help me complete The Back Porch Sessions Vol. 1, a five (5) song EP to be released this summer. This amount will cover its creation from start to finish: a MULTI Grammy award winning/critically acclaimed production team, studio time, engineer, mixing, mastering, musicians, background singers, EVERYTHING. WHATEVER you can give, no matter how big or small, brings this album closer to reality. There is a list of incentives that includes receiving the album two weeks before it's released, a private concert at your house, and a private songwriting session in addition to many other things. Hopefully these will entice and bless you as much as you are blessing me. My ultimate plan is that once we fund this project and successfully release it, The Back Porch Sessions Vol. 2 can begin production and be released in late 2014. I also ask that whether you can give or not, please help me spread the word to any of your friends, families, coworkers, etc., who may be interested in being a part of this movement.
Please understand that if I don’t make this goal by the end of 40 days, I will not get any of the money, your credit cards will not be charged, no incentives will be given out, and production will not take place. Basically, NO ALBUM. As I said before, I am doing this without the backing of a Major label so I shoulder all of the glory and/or the financial risk.
Finally, I thank you so much for all of the love and support you have lavished on me over the last fourteen years. You have NO idea how you have sustained me through some very tough times. I dedicate this album and all the music I make to you!!!
God bless, much love, and thanks for the inspiration,
Risks and challenges
While Kickstarter provides artists like myself with such an amazing platform, there still are some potential risks and challenges that could come our way throughout this process. There are a lot of moving pieces to this well-oiled machine. I, along with the production team and management, have carefully done our best to map out a solid timeline for everything, but there can certainly be delays in the process (studio time, production, completion of/sending out merchandise, etc) and I ask your patience if that were to happen. Once the funding portion is completed, the plan is to head into the studio during the months of May and June and please believe that I'm going to do my best to stick with that. I am confident that snags and road bumps will be at a minimum and I couldn't be more excited to start this new album's journey with you all!
On a brighter note, there is a possibility of partnering with a larger distribution entity once the album is completed and this would undoubtedly delay the release of the album.
Bottom line - I am fully committed to this project and once we reach our goal, I will be sure ALL rewards are sent as soon as possible and will communicate all delays and developments of this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
