Contrary to what our reward descriptions might suggest, this album holds a ton of meaning for us. RIPIS is really just three best friends that happen to be creating music together. Two of us have known each other since middle school, and the other is the piece we didn't know we were missing. We've gone through hard times and great times together, and we believe it shows in our music.
This album is particularly important to us for a couple of reasons; we believe the music is the best we've ever made, and the lyrics are a pretty vulnerable take on our own personal struggles with mental health. A few weeks before the release of our first album, one of our own was doing pretty poorly. He ended up admitting himself into a mental health facility to avoid ending his own life.
After that experience, our philosophies were adjusted. We decided that writing riff-centric music with "tough" lyrics felt insincere. Don't worry - there are still some great riffs on this album. We've just added some new elements that hit a little closer to home.
When we wrote Monolith, our big dream was to print it on vinyl. Due to a lack of personal income, we weren't able to do that. We decided to shoulder the financial aspect of printing the album, so we ended up with some pretty cool tapes. Now that we have what we believe to be a truly original, genuine product, a product good enough to justify the cost of vinyl, we're asking for help.
The artwork was painted by Paolo Girardi (Power Trip, Inquisition, our last album). His art definitely deserves to be available in a physical format. The album was mixed and mastered by Derek and Brad at AUDIOSIEGE (SUNN O))), Yob, Full of Hell) and will be released on 06/22/18.
We want everyone that's involved with making our dream a reality to be credited. That's why we're including all of your names on the insert of the album (you can opt out of this if you choose to). We want you to know how grateful we are. Making money is hard. Thanks for considering to throw some of that good green stuff at us.
The rewards are pictured below. The non-vinyl items will be shipped as soon as the campaign is over and the vinyl will be sent once pressed and received.
Risks and challenges
The album was mastered for vinyl and we've undergone talks with the company we'd like to print with to make sure we'll be good to go once we hit our goal. When we start the process of pressing the vinyl, it will take approximately 7-8 weeks for us to receive the records.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
