"I watch this girl. She is somebody, she is mine. She is light, my darkness creeps in. My memories powerful, pulling me. Longing and guilt, love and devotion. The weight constant. The girl, beautiful and new. Fresh eyes, hers and mine. Everything becoming clear. We find our way."
For years I have been photographing myself in my life, through many ups and downs and normal periods as a means to better understand and see reality. When I became pregnant I continued to do so. My daughter was born in 2013 and quickly I was swept into an isolated unknown world. The loss of self was overwhelming. The photographs in this book were taken throughout the first year of that journey.
Wether you are someone who has a kid, plans to, or doesn't want or have them, I believe you will find genuine emotion and a less publicized view of the very "normal" experience of having kids.
I am raising funds to self publish a small run (150 copies) of a first edition of this book using Edition One books in Berkeley, CA. This body of work is very important to me so I would like the 8x10 book to be beautifully crafted without cutting corners. It will feature a linen, foil stamped hardcover and spine, 70 pages of super smooth uncoated paper with 40 black and white pictures. Any additional funds raised will go towards more copies of the book.
***Please note, if you would like to purchase one of the $60, $300, $500 rewards but would prefer a different print from the series, please message me and I'd be happy to accommodate. Thank you!
All prints excluding postcard will be printed on Canson Infinity Baryta Prestige Paper.
Risks and challenges
The layout and design of the book are already complete. I will be working with Edition One books, in Berkeley, California, and expect the printing to be fantastic and on time. So there are really no risks (other that raising the money to make it all happen).
The biggest challenge is that I will be giving birth to my second baby this summer so that might mean I’ll have to pace myself when it comes to packaging and delivery. But I’m super excited about getting BORN made and into your hands.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
