About this project

We want to do a web show about creativity, entrepreneurship, and uncertainty. And we need your help to do it.

We're going to travel around and interview people who have done amazing things. Things that we look at and say “Wow! That’s awesome!”

But things that, if you were there at the time, you never would’ve thought would work out. You would’ve thought “This is crazy. This is risky. This is ridiculous.”

We’re calling the show “That’s So Crazy, It Just Might Work.”

GUESTS

We’ve already lined up guests for our first ten episodes, and they’re definitely stories you’re going to want to hear.

We’re going to interview people like Derek Sivers, who built CDBaby.com into a multimillion dollar business by ignoring pretty much every piece of conventional business wisdom out there.

We’ll interview Wayne White, whose handmade Punk Rock Puppet Shows led to a job making the iconic puppets on Pee Wee’s playhouse.

Or Max Temkin, who helped invent Cards Against Humanity, which turned into the best-selling game on all of amazon.

Or Austin Kleon, who made poems with nothing more than a sharpie and the New York Times. And then he ended up being IN the New York Times, as a bestselling author.

We’ll talk to Aaron Draplin, the prolific and slightly profane designer who brought the world Field Notes.

Or Tina Roth Eisenberg, who brought us Creative Mornings and TeuxDeux and Tattly.

Or Josh Sundquist, who turned a silly rap song about his life as an amputee into a huge youtube following with millions of views.

We'll interview Kyle Steed, who stands against a world of cold digital perfection by crafting beautifully imperfect hand-drawn lettering and illustrations.

People like Shawn Askinosie, who quit his job as a super-successful attorney to become a bean-to-bar chocolate maker who shares his profits with the farmers who grow the beans.

Or Michael Jr. who, after performing on Jimmy Kimmel and in some of the biggest comedy clubs in the nation, decided to take his act into homeless shelters and correctional facilities to the people who most needed a good laugh.

We’ll focus on the stories behind the stories: what it really felt like to take the risks, to make the oddball decisions, to be labeled as ridiculous.

Our hope is that people will watch the show and say “OOOH! So it WASN’T so easy for them! So they DIDN’T really know whether it would work or not….”

And then, our hope is that those SAME people would get inspired to get out there and try their own crazy idea.

The show itself is a perfect example of what we’re talking about. We’ve got a great concept and an amazing lineup of guests, but we don’t have the funding to make the project happen.

But that’s never stopped us before, and it’s never stopped you either.

So how about it, Kickstarter? Will you help us give legs to our idea? Will you help us make this a reality?

Will you help us with our project that’s so crazy, it just might work?

Risks and challenges

Man, there are all sorts of risks that come with a project like this.

For starters, we're coordinating schedules of ten very busy people in ten different cities. Any one of them could end up having a family emergency, or getting laryngitis on the day of the interview, or being turned to stone by the White Witch from Narnia.

Once the schedules are coordinated, we've got to fly at least two people out to each of those ten cities, which introduces the possibility of travel delays, plane crashes, lost luggage, bed bugs, and jet lag.

Then there's the chance that all the footage gets lost in a sudden burst of EMP from a solar flare. Or that one of the two filmmakers decides to start a union and go on strike against the other one for better working conditions. Or that we run out of coffee during editing. Or that the government reinstates the draft and one of us is sent off to fight for our freedom, or for oil, or for our right to party.

These are just a few of the risks and challenges that come with attempting a project of this nature. Assuming we avoid these, it's fairly certain we'll fall victim to something much worse.

And yet, we shall soldier on. By hook or by crook, we shall complete this project or die within sight of the summit.
