More Shenzhen shenanigans

Hi backers!

Hope all is well out there, things are busy as ever with Team BeeLine as we get closer to ship date. We'll keep this brief, enjoy!

- Timelines remain as before. We're on track to ship small test batch units to a small number of backers in October, with the main batch shipping to all preorders in November (Note: those who receive a test unit will have that replaced with a finished product when ready)

- Charlie and I were in China last week to see Victor and the team, and the trip went really well. We are pretty happy now with each piece of the manufacturing process, so next we just put it all together for our first test batch

- Software is making great progress on a daily basis. The majority of the remaining work is on the Android app and the firmware, but we're close

- The physical design of the packaging is complete, and we're working on the graphics

We had a great response to our request for testing volunteers. Anyone who missed that, sign up here. I'll be in touch with everyone on that list later today

We're basically in a cycle of making stuff, then testing stuff.... and repeat:

Making stuff: Batteries, silicone straps, display modules

Testing stuff: Component performance, BT antenna tuning, water testing (with a teapot!)

@Mark & Tom: thanks for the update. If you still read this, I never got my question answered whether you made the decision whether the initial version will have the possibility to set up completely fixed route/route segment? I'd mostly use it that way, especially in my home city, so I'm curious if this will be a gadget for travel or perhaps for everyday too...

Typo - I meant *rain* won't be a problem but taking it into the bath would be!

      Hey guys,

@Eric - yes, we are going to do that. We're expecting a rating of around IP55 or 56, so won't be a problem but taking it into the bath with you would be!

@Szilard - good point, I'm not sure I did mention that in previous updates, but yes, firmware will be upgraded through the app over Bluetooth. It was a bit of a slog getting that to work!

      Cheers,

      Mark

Maybe I have missed it in previous updates, but one crucial aspect I have not heard is whether the firmware will be upgradable after shipping. I hope you are planning for that, let's avoid planned- or unplanned deprecation of the product, please!

Are you going to have a certified lab do water and dust intrusion tests?
