Our goal is to bring the legendary Nelson Riddle Orchestra back to the international stage by representing at the World Music Expo (WOMEX) in Copenhagen this October. For the past three years the Riddle family have worked to rebuild the orchestra into one of the tightest and most reputable institutions in the jazz world. We are proud to say that we are now ready to make our return to the world stage.... but we need your help.
By raising at least $15,000 we can hit the World Expo with a bang! Armed with shiny modern literature and new demo material, in a well positioned booth along with our happy and impassioned team we will reintroduce this epitome of American cultural goodness to the world... and get the orchestra firmly back on the road in 2012. Kickstarter funding would allow us to make a short promo film/teaser of the band in action, design and print materials, rent booth space, pay for flights/hotels and WOMEX membership to bring the music of the people back to the people!!!
THE NELSON RIDDLE ORCHESTRA TODAY
Nelson passed the mantle of director of his orchestra to his son and former bass trombonist Christopher Riddle. Today Chris is back at the helm with some of the world's finest jazz musicians and the full support of the family. We have our own dedicated production team and Empire Artists International as our exclusive booking agency. With several exciting programs and a wealth of incredible talent we are on the verge of breaking back into the live music world and we are asking you to help us overcome the only obstacle we have left. It has been a heck of a ride thus far and we hope you will join us in this last big push.
Nelson Riddle and his orchestra first came to prominence in the early 1950s when he arranged Unforgettable and Mona Lisa. Both hits were instant successes and really set Nelson on the road. With over 300 of America's most memorable hits, many of which were recorded with Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney and Linda Ronstadt the Nelson Riddle Orchestra was the Midas of the music industry for more than four decades selling over half a billion records. Nelson's compositions and arrangements have also rewarded him with an Academy Award, numerous nominations, several Grammys and other notable accolades. What most people don't realize is that neither Nelson nor the Orchestra reap the lavish financial rewards of the soloists with whom he worked, since he was essentially 'talent for hire'.
Having a solid representation at WOMEX would be a major step in getting the Nelson Riddle Orchestra firmly back on the world stage as this is the premiere marketplace for theaters and venues to book their acts for the coming year.
