Michiel Oele, one of our early backers, asked us in October if he could be our official "last backer," volunteering to be the last person to whom we would ship socks. We sealed his box and printed the shipping label just before 10:30 Wednesday night.
All the socks you've chosen have been shipped. It's taken us 13 months from the time we received the funds from your pledges; consuming more time and energy than we ever expected, and teaching us an immense amount about the hosiery industry, knitting socks, and running a sock business.
We created and shipped 336 separate product SKUs, more than any other Kickstarter undertaking we've seen. We tested and dyed more than 100 color/yarn combinations for production, and knitted more than 6,000 pairs of socks on our own machines. We've sent socks to 30 countries, and they've gone as far north as Yellowknife in Canada's Northwest Territories, and as far south as McMurdo Station, Antarctica.
In the last year, we've built sock design software, tracking and inventory tools, knitting reporting software, and created a database containing the machine programs, threading diagrams and provenance details for every sock we've ever knit.
Last month, we received news that the US patent office granted our patent for design analysis and float reduction in knitted garments.
Your pledges, support, criticism, enthusiasm and patience made it possible for us to succeed. Thank you.
We've also launched our socks for sale on Amazon. If you're happy with the socks you've received, please help us spread the word. You can see our current selections, all eligible for Prime shipping and delivery by Christmas, by searching for XOAB at the main Amazon search prompt, or going here:
Our last Kickstarter sock deliveries will be reaching US backers today and tomorrow, and over the next two weeks for international backers. Please let us know what you think of your socks, and let us know if there are any problems or missing packages, at firstname.lastname@example.org. All of you enjoy a safe and happy holiday; we're headed home for a bit of a rest!
