What is Rhino Slider EVO?
Rhino Slider EVO is a professional motorized camera slider. It enables you to get amazing Live Motion or Time Lapse shots with a single, intuitive, battery powered controller.
This Kickstarter campaign introduces Rhino Slider EVO and Rhino Motion. Don't worry though, we have not forgotten about any of our awesome customers who already own a Rhino Slider. We created Rhino Motion to work with all our previous sliders as well (as you can see in the image below), and it's available for pre-order on our website.
The flush folding all-terrain legs let you position your slider more creatively and the self leveling feet make setup a breeze. Three machined notches in each leg line up with an indexing mark on the end plate to quickly position the spring-loaded legs.
Designed with mobility in mind, you can mount it to a single tripod and swap between carbon fiber and stainless steel rails as needed. This allows you to easily upgrade your slider to carry more weight or to get a longer move without buying an entirely new slider.
The integrated carriage brake allows you to secure the carriage at any place on the rail and only takes a single turn to engage.
The Finest Materials
The main elements are precision machined from solid aircraft grade (6061-T6) aluminum, bead blasted to a perfect matte finish, and then anodized with a durable black coating. All of the fasteners are 304 grade stainless steel and the rails come standard in precision ground stainless steel or carbon fiber.
The Rhino Flywheel is a new accessory that creates an even better experience and smoothness you've never felt before on a slider. Using the integrated belt drive, the Flywheel adds inertia to your carriage which smooths out any inconsistencies in your slide allowing you to confidently get the shot on the first take. Installation is as simple as setting it on the drive shaft and locking it down with the tool less fastener.
Rhino Arc (Coming Summer 2015)
The tool-less accessory studs at each end of the slider allow you to mount accessories like Rhino Arc, a mechanical 2nd axis that automatically pans your camera as it moves across the slider.
The amount of pan can be adjusted to focus as close as 18" to ∞ using a tool less knob on one end of the slider.
Rhino Arc works with or without Rhino Motion. Our scheduled release is Summer of 2015 with an estimated price of $399 so stay tuned.
Rhino Motion enables you to capture stunning Live Motion and Timelapse in a single unit. Using a powerful, ultra-precise (.7µ resolution) drive system and a built in hi-capacity battery, you can film on multiple shoots without needing to swap motors or use external batteries.
Turn the controller wheel to move your camera along the slider and react in real time to a dynamic scene. The controller even knows where your camera is at all times and will ramp speed down before it gets to the end of the carriage.
Easily program a Live Motion move with features like ramping and looping to ease into a move or to repeat it if you’re filming an interview.
In Timelapse mode you can create a simple time lapse by choosing the direction of travel, length of travel and how long you want it to take. When you’re not shooting long exposures this mode is perfect for getting great day-time time lapses.
If you’re shooting at night with longer exposures you can use the Advanced Time Lapse mode and control your camera’s exposure with Rhino Motion’s included cable and built in intervalometer. Using the shoot-move-shoot approach, your camera is stationary while taking a picture and moves between shots to eliminate motion blur.
A shutter release cable is included with your purchase of Rhino Motion. You'll be able to pick your style of cable after the campaign ends. Here is a list of the connectors we'll offer and the cameras they support.

Technology Behind the Controller
When designing the controller wheel we implemented a brand new magnetic encoder technology which gives you extremely responsive control when filming and makes navigating menus a breeze. Our unique combination of hardware of software adjusts torque output in real time to save battery life.
We nearly eliminated motor noise at low speeds which allows live action filming without the need to re-record audio. The system is so quiet you can barely hear any operating noise.
Smart Position Sensing
When connected to Rhino Motion, Rhino Slider EVO always knows where it's at on the rails. This means you can drive your camera around without worrying about running into the end. Even at full speed, once it senses it's close to the bumper, it automatically slows down.
The built in magnets safely secure your controller on the motor. Hands-free operation allows you to use your free hand to pull focus.
This included accessory gives you hands-free operation but keeps your controller in front of you for easy access. It straps on to any standard tripod leg.
Power and Ports
The Controller has a few ports on the side that allow you to connect to your motor, communicate with your camera, charge the internal battery (or power the controller for longer time lapses), or update software.
All of these new tools are designed to work seamlessly as one integrated system. Whether you use the Flywheel for live events or Rhino Motion for accurate repeatable movements, all the components of the EVO system are toolless and are designed to improve your workflow as a filmmaker. For storage and travel, the custom carrying cases fit your fully assembled slider and keep it safe.
We completely redesigned our carrying cases for the Rhino Slider EVO. A new soft interior liner keeps your slider safe from scratches and an expandable "pop-top" lets you store your slider completely assembled with Rhino Motion even if you have a full size fluid head.
How to Choose a Slider
The only difference in the versions of Rhino Slider EVO are the rail material and length.
Carbon fiber is much lighter than stainless steel but can't carry loads over 15lbs. Stainless Steel is heavier but can carry almost any camera setup you put on it.
Rhino Slider Core - Basic, 24" carbon fiber slider. Great if you're not interested in adding accessories.
Rhino Slider EVO Carbon 24" - Most popular option. It's light, can carry most loads and short enough to travel easily.
Rhino Slider EVO PRO 24" - Built like a tank. It's compact and great for a small studio or day shoots. Carries the most weight out of all our sliders.
Rhino Slider EVO Carbon 42" - The time lapse slider. It's weight and long slide length make it perfect for beautiful time lapses. Best supported with two tripods.
Rhino Slider EVO PRO 42" - Extremely stable, long slide. Great for studio or larger productions when using heavier gear is needed.
If you want to take advantage of the Rhino Slider's versatility, you'll have an option to add extra sets of rails after the campaign ends.

Risks and challenges
Our team has designed a lot of hardware, but that doesn't exempt us from potential supply chain issues. Our approach with this project is different from prior projects because we have the supply chain nailed down and have already assembled first article units proving out our designs. This is our first project creating an electronic device, so while we don't foresee any issues, minor bugs can be fixed with firmware updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
