WHAT IS THE RHINO RIG?
The Rhino Rig is an innovative shoulder rig, a culmination of art and engineering for its product category. In the past few years, the exploding camera industry has given film makers a huge number of camera and accessory options to choose from. For the most part, it's been hard for camera support to keep up with the trend. So when we started planning for a game-changing shoulder rig over a year ago, we knew it had to do just about everything.
While there are great rigs on the market, most of them are designed to fit a single style of camera with limited adjustability. We decided to change that by re-inventing the shoulder rig platform to fit every type of camera with infinite configurations.
To truly innovate the shoulder rig, we engineered it from the ground up. Using the best materials, beautiful design, a patent-pending, custom-fitting shoulder rest, and ARRI standard rosettes throughout, the Rhino Rig is the culmination of art and engineering working together.
The Rhino Rig boasts an unprecedented amount of articulation from the hand grips to the shoulder rest, and is made up of four modular components: the Base Kit, the Rail System, the Cage, and the Rhino Rest.
Every Rhino Rig starts with the Base Kit, which includes fully-articulating, rosetted hand grips, and an adjustable buttstock. The hand grips can mount directly to the base plate for a truly compact rig.
As your camera setup grows, add the Rail System which includes “15mm LWS” carbon rails. The rails are height adjustable to accommodate accessories that utilize the 15mm standard. The base of the Rail System will let you attach your rig to any standard tripod or quick release plate. We included a tightening bar that stashes in the base plate of the Rail System for easy and secure mounting of your camera.
We designed an innovative Cage to protect your camera, give you additional hand grip options, and included a cheese-plate to equip your rig with mics, monitors, and other accessories. The two Cage handgrips articulate forward and backward to accommodate cables and accessories that attach to your camera. The top handle makes it easy to shoot low to the ground and carry or pick up your rig.
Additionally, we’ve designed three cage heights to accommodate nearly every camera on the market. For utmost security, the Cage bolts directly to the top of Red Epic, Red Scarlet, and Blackmagic Cinema and Production Cameras.
Important - When the Kickstarter campaign is over, we will contact every Rhino Rig backer with a simple form where you will indicate which cage height you need for your camera. Purchasing multiple cage handles of different heights will be available on the website at the end of the campaign.
For ultimate comfort and customization, we created the first ever fully-articulating, custom-fitting shoulder rest; the Rhino Rest, which is being received as the most comfortable shoulder rest on the market. It features 9 individually articulating TPR (thermoplastic rubber) pads that distribute the weight equally across the shoulder and an integrated 15 degree cant that conforms to the slope of your shoulder.
We added even more functionality by integrating eight 1/4-20 accessory mounting locations above each link.
WHAT CAMERAS FIT?
Here’s a partial list of the cameras the Rhino Rig will accommodate.
(Please note that any camera over 6.4" tall will not fit inside our tallest cage. Most cameras that tall have integrated hand grips/mounting locations for mics and monitors.)

To protect, carry, and travel with your Rhino Rig, we've designed a very simple and very tough case. It will accommodate foam inserts which will allow you to break down the rig, place the parts in secure foam holdings, and zip the case up to take with you wherever you go.
We’ve been working on a counter weight for a while and after listening to feedback on Kickstarter and blogs we decided to add it as a reward on our Kickstarter campaign.
The 5lb counter weight works with the Rhino Rest and doubles as a v-mount and 3-stud battery plate. It can be added to any order by increasing your pledge by $70.

During our Kickstarter campaign we will be listening closely to the feedback we get from our backers and plan on releasing more accessories as the demand comes.
We've learned a lot about shipping internationally over the past year. Some international backers of the Rhino Slider had to wait weeks for shipments to arrive at customs and then even more time as their delivery was held up.
For the Rhino Rig, we've decided to ship around the world exclusively with DHL Express. While it's slightly more expensive, DHL Express ensures 2 or 3 day delivery times and is set up to clear customs faster.
WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
The Rhino Rig is the most ambitious and expensive project we’ve ever taken on. We need to raise $50,000 to cover the tooling costs and to start manufacturing. We are offering the Rig at a discounted price exclusively to our Kickstarter Backers.
At Rhino, we take product design very seriously. And it’s not just because we want to build a great company, it’s because we have a passion for camera gear and what it allows people to do.
As a team, we've poured more of ourselves into the Rhino Rig than any other product we’ve designed and are really excited with what we’ve created. What's more, this isn't the first great product we've been able to create because of Kickstarter backers! We've successfully funded two other Kickstarter campaigns, the Rhino Steady and the Rhino Slider.
The Kickstarter platform has shaped our company and allows us to bring products to life with people who are equally passionate about our gear and who want to share our mission.
The Rhino Rig is easy to use, but wonderfully complex to build. We have a functional prototype, all of our CAD drawings ready, and our manufacturers lined up, but production will only begin when our campaign is funded. As soon as we reach our funding goal, we will begin the tooling process for all of the Rhino Rig components and parts.
A big priority for us is to ship products as quickly as possible after a Kickstarter project is successfully funded. To accomplish this, we will quickly and efficiently assemble the many Rhino Rig parts in our warehouse in Puyallup, WA. The tooling for these parts will take more time and gives us our target delivery date of January 2014.
Risks and challenges
Every project has potential obstacles. There is always a risk that supply chains break down or parts don't turn out right. Because of that reality, we do our very best to plan ahead and manage the risks, all the while realizing there is still a chance that things go wrong. In the event that something does get delayed, we use our manufacturing experience to create back up plans and get parts in stock.
When issues with production have come up in the past, we make sure our communication is honest and that we are forthcoming with our backers about how we will fix the problem. We've learned a lot in our dealing with manufacturers and have put the necessary procedures in place to deal with problems quickly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
