At Revolights, our goal is to make cyclists more visible on the road while giving them unprecedented functionality. Traditional bike taillight designs use only a small blinking red light for rear visibility and provide little to no side visibility. This leaves cyclists vulnerable and drivers straining to see them.
Our lights are different.
We take a smarter approach to design. We create safety products that are more stylish and functional than any currently on the market.
After two successful campaigns on Kickstarter, we’re back to introduce the newest member to our product family… the Revolights Arc [patent pending].
Since introducing our original idea via Kickstarter in 2011, we’ve been overwhelmed with positive support, but also paid close attention to feedback from the community.
One of the most common bits of feedback we receive involves affordability. Well, we heard you, and designed the Arc in response.
The lights mount in place of a fender (Revolights Arc Fender), or as an addition to an existing fender (Revolights Arc) and are designed in Revolights fashion to dramatically increase the rider’s visual footprint from both sides and behind.
The Revolights Arc is much more than just a taillight.
Sensors in the lights pick up on the rear wheel speed and use that information to create a functional brake light. The Arc is able to immediately alert shared road traffic when the bike slows down via one of two user selected brake modes:
- Solid Mode - increased brightness
- Blink Mode - faster, brighter blinking
Starting at only $69, the Arc is designed as an entry-level addition to our growing product family, making Revolights technology accessible to everyone.

Dramatically Increased Visibility: Bright LED light piping enables the efficient formation of long, bright red arcs that create a dramatically enlarged visual footprint, significantly increasing visibility from both sides and rear.
Functional Brake Light: Intelligent speed-tracking sensors in the the lights are able to constantly track your riding speed. Using this information, the Arc lights either get brighter or blink faster to indicate deceleration.
Multiple Modes: Solid and blink modes, which are selectable when turning on the lights, have their own corresponding brake indicator. Choose your preferable mode of being visible!
Anti-Theft: By permanently riveting the lights into the fender, the Revolights Arc Fender makes the lights near impossible to steal without removing the entire fender. The Revolights Arc is designed so it cannot be removed without removing the wheel itself.
Compatibility: The Revolights Arc was designed to fit on almost any existing bike fender, and can conform to most all fender shapes and diameters. The Revolights Arc Fender will be offered in two models: a universal plastic fender and a 700c-compatible metal fender (similar to those currently mounted on Public Bikes).
USB Rechargeable Battery: Li-Poly battery charges directly into any USB port.
Affordable: Starting at $69 (for this campaign only), the Arc offers all those concerned with their personal safety access to Revolights technology at an affordable price.
The Revolights Arc: A stand-alone USB rechargeable light made to mount to your existing curved fender. While we’re still working to finalize the exact mounting method, we plan to have two options:
1. A permanent (anti-theft) mount
2. An easier to install and remove “interchangeable” mount
Revolights Arc Fender (Universal, Rear Only): The Revolights Arc permanently attached to a black plastic, universal-fit fender that easily connects to your bike’s rear seat stays. Great for quick installation / removal, and compatible with almost all bikes.
Revolights Arc Fender (Full Metal): the Revolights Arc permanently attached to a black or chrome full metal fender, which requires mount points on your bike (small holes near the rear axle). Great for permanent mounting; the most anti-theft option. Front fender included. See FAQs for full specs.

Brake Light Feature
The Arc constantly measures the speed of the bike using a small magnet insert which is installed between the tube and tire on one's rear wheel. The magnet is detected by a sensor in the Arc each time the wheel rotates, allowing it to accurately calculate the bicycle’s speed. When the brakes are applied the Arc senses the bike slowing and triggers the brake light.
The Arc will be designed to fit on nearly any fender. We’ll continue to develop the mounting system until it can be easily and securely mounted so you won’t have to worry about someone snatching it from your bike. We plan on having multiple options for attaching the Arc to your fender, using either special straps or a more permanent screw installation. For those who don’t have a fender, the Revolights Arc Fender will mount to one’s bike similar to any standard fender.
Battery Life and Battery Charging
Charging the battery is simple and easy. The Arc battery pack is designed to be removed quickly and features a USB plug to allow you to charge it from any USB port. The battery will provide approximately 8 hours of run time, and will charge in under two hours.
Together we must raise the standards of bike safety to the level of other road-sharing vehicles.
Our motivation with the Revolights Arc is to address the issue of bike safety on the road by adding lighting functionality that has been long overlooked by the cycling industry (e.g. visibility / brake lights / hazard lights / potential turn signals).
Most importantly, starting at just $69, we’ve created a product that makes Revolights technology available to everyone.
Now anyone concerned with personal safety can access an affordable upgrade that will transform their bicycle into a more visible vehicle, allowing them to ride with more confidence.
We’ve gone through a number of iterations and are close to a final product, yet we still need to incorporate further design elements to get the Arc production-ready. This involves construction of a final prototype version before the Arc is ready to hit prime time.

We can do some really cool stuff with the Arc, like create a first of its kind handlebar activated turn signal.
These add ons will take a good deal more development effort, so for starters our focus will be on our $100k funding goal to ensure we are able to take the Arc into production.

When we launched our first Kickstarter in 2011, we were a small group of three looking for a way to take a concept for a better bike light and make it a reality.
Now we’re just a bit older, but we’re still a small team of seven working to create the best lights out there.
We're extremely excited to team up with one of our favorite local San Francisco-based bicycle companies, PUBLIC. They design and sell urban bikes, along with accessories to make riding more enjoyable, practical, and chic.
Their European-inspired bikes ride like butter. They come in single speed and multi-speeds in all sizes. Their bikes will make you feel like a kid again, and this is every bit as important as anything else.
One of the most important things we’ve learned from our past campaigns is how including the community’s input early in the design process will allow us to create the best products... for YOU.
Kickstarter gives us a chance to bring to reality something that, frankly, we just don’t have the resources to expand into at this time. That’s why we need your help.

Risks and challenges
Final Design/Manufacturing - While we’re very close to a final design we can take for tooling, one of the most important aspects of the Arc is it’s ability to fit most every curved fender out there. While we allocated an extended design cycle, there’s the possibility that it may take longer than expected and push our production start date.
Testing - While we’re used to designing for all environments, it’s critical with the fender that it’s able to withstand whatever rain, mud and snow their riders endure. We have planned several prototype design and testing cycles, but we will not proceed to production until we have proven the design is durable enough for our users.
Potential Turn Signals - We have prototypes for the turn signal stretch goal, but there is a lot of development work left to do for this product. Unforeseen delays could arise from difficulties in sourcing electronics components or from safety compliance testing. If we end up developing a wireless transmitting and receiving device, we would need to ensure it is fully compliant with FCC and international wireless communication regulations before shipping. This additional development and testing could lead us to delay shipping the turn signal enabled fenders.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
