THANK YOU! Our initial goal and first stretch goal have been reached so we now can make 16 videos - but would love to do more!
$10,000 = 2 more Retro Roadmap videos get made AND we'll take the show on the road by traveling farther afield (ie flying!) to film outside of our current geographic reach. All backers will help us decide where to go for these 2 places too!
ALL funds raised above the goal will go towards making even MORE videos of the cool vintage places we all love so much. Every little bit helps, so please get the word out!
Do you want the American roadside to look like a long chain of generic box stores from coast to coast? Well, I don't - and I would love your support so we can do something about it!
I believe that if more people know about cool old mom-n-pop shops that are out there they will support them - even travel out of their way to do so. Shopping local and independent can do wonders for communities and preserve a bit of history at the same time.
This Retro Roadmap video project will get the word out about the great vintage places that still dot our landscape - restaurants, 5&10's, downtown theatres, drive-ins, cabin courts, diners, bowling alleys, motels, roadside attractions and more.
But I can't do it alone. Your help will make all the difference.
I've had a love of authentic old places with vintage charm ever since I picked up a camera and started discovering them on the back roads of my home state of Massachusetts. Before the internet all I could do was share my photos with pals, and now I share them with my website RetroRoadmap.com. But video will definitely get the word out to a bigger audience.
I can find these places and take photos (I've done it as fun for years), but in order for folks to pay attention to these cool old places, these videos need to look pro.
That is where the funds from this campaign will go - to the costs associated with the professional filming, editing, and travel expenses of creating of this collection of videos. I'm lucky to have my pal Rob Waters of Bystander Productions as excited to work on this project as I am - here's a little something we put together this past summer:
Once the videos are made, they'll be shared on all of the major video platforms, RetroRoadmap.com, travel & tourism boards, local TV stations, and more. This is something I truly believe in, and have been championing for years, so I will do everything it takes to get these places in front of the American public.
With your help we can be the change we want to see in the world - helping to celebrate and support these places while they're still here, instead of doing nothing but complaining when they're being torn down.
For your donation there are a whole bunch of thank you rewards - from a sneak preview of the video before it goes live, all they way up to you appearing in a video yourself.
Participation in this project is an investment in the kind of world we want to live in - unique and interesting not boring and generic - and I thank you for that. Let's make this happen together!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk I see is that some of the places we hope to video may close down before you and I have the opportunity to share them with the world.
We have an ambitions filming goal of one video per month for 12 months, and with scheduling there is the possibility that we may not get all videos done by that due date.
Rest assured that if it should take longer than that to schedule, travel, shoot, edit, we're still 100% committed to getting all of the videos completed and distributed. Promise!
