A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

As our lives get busier and busier, we still lack a hands-free luggage solution, despite all the advances in luggage technology.
Technology is always making our lives easier. There are still some problems, however, that technology has not touched, problems that are just as much problems as they were ten, twenty, or even fifty years ago. Theft is still a major scourge of travelers everywhere, as is the inconvenience of being forced to use one’s hands. Heavy luggage is one such problem: for as long as luggage has been a thing, it has been weighing us down and adding to our stress levels.
Fortunately, all of that is about to change. The RetraStrap is the revolutionary solution making it possible for you to cart around your luggage without feeling weighed down, reducing stress on muscles and joints.
The RetraStrap is designed to enable you to pull your carry-on luggage without using your hands.
It prevents thieves (and forgetful minds!) from losing anything valuable, and it is adjustable to your body type. Comfortable, easy to use, easy to store, and compatible with the majority of wheeled carry-on luggage, the RetraStrap is the one thing missing from your next adventure around the globe. This product is perfect for travelers, professionals, students, and people with disabilities or injuries alike.
As much progress as we have made developing the RetraStrap already, we need to raise some additional funds in order to move forward.
Pull your carry-on luggage hands free.
Anti-theft and anti-forgetting: Your bag is attached to you!
Relax your arm from the constant pulling in a twisted position.
Works with most wheeled carry-on luggage.
Retractable: Easy to use and store.
Shock absorber for added comfort and stability.
Adjustable to work for any body type.
In the Press:
We have been improving the RetraStrap design and testing in real travel for the last 3 years while paying attention to every detail.
It works like magic!
For a smooth ride with no wobbling, we incorporated an elastic to absorb shocks resulting from the walking movement and to keep the handle steady. It's like the car suspension!
The RetraStrap is quick and easy to wear and remove when needed because of the retraction feature. (security, stowing, etc…) We tried a non-retractable strap but it was dragging on the ground when not in use, got tangled, took time and effort to wear and store, so it was more of a hassle to use.
The RetraStrap keeps the bag handle in the same position within reach as if it's being pulled by hand, making it easy to grab at any time when needed. (i.e.when going on escalators) We discovered while testing the attachment that the most stable ride and for the easiest reach of the handle is to have the RetraStrap attached tightly to the side of the handle. We also added Silicone to the back of the attachment to prevent it from sliding and to keep it in place.
Maneuvering in lines, stores, and between people is just as easy as when the bag is pulled by hand. It just follows you and turns up to 90 degrees when you turn!
Pulling with the torso takes less effort than pulling with a twisted hand so the bag feels lighter and allows you to walk in a more balanced and straight posture. Without the RetraStrap you are actually putting constant stress on your wrist, arm, shoulder, neck and back.
No need to park the bag in the upright position each time you stop and go. You will notice this when in lines, moving two steps at a time.
What We Need & What You Get
Right now, we have come to you, friends, for help raising $7,500. These funds will go toward ordering the first batch of RetraStraps and continue our journey to bring it to the mass market.
Already in the tooling phase, we will be delivered the first batch of RetraStraps in March 2018, settling on packaging, shipping, and marketing in the meantime and then making deliveries to you, our valued contributors, starting in April 2018.
A Little Background
The idea for the RetraStrap came into being in 2013. Dragging a heavy carry-on around throughout multiple airports during layovers, our founder Omar Abass decides there had to be something he could do to lighten the load on his bad shoulder and free his hands. He got to work, coming up with the RetraStrap, and “the rest is history,” as they say.
Does the RetraStrap work with my luggage?
It does work on spinner bags, (the ones with 4 wheels) however you can only pull the bag in the tipped position.
The RetraStrap is designed to work best with normal size carry-on bags, the typical ones that you take on the plane weighing between 15-25lbs. It is not recommended for the large check-in bags weighing close to 50lbs.
Right now, the biggest challenge for the RetraStrap is the manufacturing cost. As you know, the smaller the amount of units produced the higher the cost per unit. Which means higher retail price.
The success of this campaign will help bring down the production cost and retail price as we will be producing more units.
Another challenge for the RetraStrap is product awareness, because it's a new kind of product that requires a demonstration with videos or pictures.
The RetraStrap is something that requires a trial to really get a taste of how practical it is and how light the luggage feels when pulled with the torso.
Sharing this campaign on your social media and telling your friends and family about this awesome product is the greatest help.
