What is RU? An organization that feverishly supports artists.
Residency Unlimited (RU) is a non-profit arts organization that fosters customized residencies for local and international artists and curators in New York City.
What is RU Opportunities?
When we started RU six years ago, we created an entire section on our website devoted to the publishing of open calls for artists residencies worldwide. Today, we have more than 600 registered cultural organizations publishing their programs and we get over 150,000 page-views per month from all corners of the world.
As an online resource, RU Opportunities provides artists with specifics on residency programs such as how to apply, eligibility and guidelines, costs or financial support, and other important details.
We have created a tool that allows you to:
- Search open calls by term or with filters like country and discipline.
- View listings with a description and link to the program's website for those who seek to apply.
- Sign-up for our weekly email digest of latest opportunities delivered every Monday morning.
- Arts organizations can register an account, set up their profiles and start posting open calls for free.
- Each organization has an individual profile page where artists can see which open calls are active and which have past.

We have been running RU Opportunities since 2009 as a free service.
The goal of this Kickstarter is to further enhance the publishing system, make it a stronger tool for artists and organizations by adding new features and continuously updating the system.
Here are the features your support will fund:
- Better search system: filtering results for visitors to seek opportunities with more defined parameters like regions, disciplines and cost.
- Maps: Stronger geo-location for organizations with a map showing all the residencies around the globe.
- Calendar Integration: Implement a new and improved calendar system to alert users about residency deadlines.
- Detailed Social Media Output: Re-coding our feeds to better display opportunities on platforms including Facebook and Twitter.
If we exceed our campaign goal, we will start developing the following features by the end of summer 2016!
Artists Accounts: Enable artists to create personal accounts where they can “favorite”programs, receive pinpointed notifications, and provide feedback on their experiences.
With your support, we want RU Opportunities to be an essential tool for the world wide arts community and link artists to organizations in order to expand and nourish their creative practices.

Risks and challenges
The challenge has been to maintain the service free of cost for the last 6 years and to continue to keep it that way.
RU Opportunities has been running since 2009, consistently providing information on residency programs from around the world. If we don’t make our fundraising goals, the service will continue to exist.
We have a very strong online audience and our primary challenge is to activate the support from both artists and organizations who regularly consult and use RU Opportunities.
