Help us digitally preserve these important records and make them available to researchers everywhere
This collection contains cemetery deeds from the Harold B. Mulligan Funeral Home that reach as far back as the time of the Civil War. Mulligan's funeral home originally existed at 1119 West Lehigh Avenue, and while many of the deeds represent individual histories of Kensington residents, people from Philadelphia and the surrounding area were buried by this funeral home in numerous cemeteries.
The records were acquired by GSP through a local Philadelphia genealogist who learned of their discovery in a storage area, and quickly recognized their need to be preserved as an important source of historical and genealogical material for Philadelphia and Pennsylvania researchers.
The collection is comprised of approximately 2800 envelopes and represents numerous Philadelphia cemeteries. Some envelopes contain only deeds while others contain correspondence and/or vital records. The materials need to be removed from their envelopes and housed in archival quality acid-free boxes and folders. We also need to digitize these records to make them available to researchers all over the world.

It will be challenging to open some of the envelopes that are currently sealed. We need to do it carefully so the contents are preserved, and will do so by working with an experienced archivist.
Once the project is successfully funded, we need to juggle our multiple priorities to make sure that we complete the project quickly (and we will definitely do so.) We have an excellent staff who is very resilient, so if we suffer any setbacks, we will regroup and reassess, then move forward again.
