A Match Made In Austen is a game of storytelling, strategy and serendipity, inspired by the timeless works of Jane Austen. Tell your story, roll the dice, and see if your matches are made in heaven or in hell... or in Austen.
The game contains key male and female characters from the main novels of Jane Austen, namely: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey. The goal of the game is to create the best possible romantic matches between them.
- 27 male character cards, and 27 female character cards, with a unique illustration for each character
- One six-sided die
- Instruction booklet.
How the game is played
Each player has three male cards and three female cards. Each player takes a turn hosting an event (parties, afternoon teas, dinners) and players bring one, or more, pair of male and female characters to the party. During the events, incidents occur, described by the host. Each female character reacts to the event by trying to showcase one of the following virtues: beauty, wit, friendliness, propriety, accomplishments, loyalty, fortune, and independence.
When the event is over, the host chooses the best storyteller among the other players. This player gets an advantage in the next part of the round: the proposal. The players use one male character to propose to one lady present, making their choices according to the virtues listed on the cards.
The game ends when one player has three matches. The player with the most points wins.
We want the game to be the best it can be. We are not using stock images for this game, we want each character to look the way he or she should look according to the book description. For this purpose we have retained the services of a very talented artist, herself a fan of Jane Austen, who is to create the box art and 54 individual portraits. We are launching this campaign to be able to pay for the artwork. '
Rewards start as low as one dollar, we offer you our grateful thanks and will list your name on the game page of our website. You will also receive any and all updates regarding this campaign. - We offer the game itself, of course. Either as a PDF document for Print and Play purposes, or as a physical copy, printed on high-quality cardstock and bound in a box. - We also offer the novel The Admirer, written by the person who also created the concept of this game: Aurelia Osborne. The Admirer has been described as “Jane Austen meets Sir Arthur Conan Doyle”, and should please fans of both authors. - Then, there is an 11 inches wide by 17 inches tall poster of the beautiful box art. - Finally, we offer limited quantities of a custom made card, in your name and your image.
If we reach out stretch goal of 3,000$, you will also receive the expansion of the game, with 18 additional characters from Sanditon, The Watsons and Lady Susan!
